I would be happy with five possible outcomes (from my favorite to least favorite):

1. Sign Matt Flynn - Draft RGIII at #6
2. Sign Peyton Manning - Draft QB in 2nd Round (Ryan Tannehill if available)
3. Sign Matt Flynn - Draft QB in 2nd Round (Tannehill)
4. Draft RGIII (with the intention of him starting the entire year) - Keep Beck as backup
5. Sign Peyton Manning - Draft RGIII (I know this is unlikely, but I'd still be happy with the outcome)

RGIII is NOT making it to #6 - we or some other franchise is taking him earlier than that

I'd love for RGIII to be there at #6 but .... there are at least 3 franchises that will not let that happen
INCLUDING the Redskins

So now you are thinking this FO might trade up?

Posted: Tue Feb 07, 2012 7:52 pm
by SkinsJock
This FO will NOT trade 4 to 5 top 50 players in the next 2 drafts to get RGIII

IF this FO really, REALLY likes RGIII they will make a trade to trade up

I'll repeat - this FO will NOT trade 4 to 5 top 50 players in the next 2 drafts to get RGIII

:D so yes - I think they MIGHT trade for RGIII but they will not be stupid like Snyder or Cerrato :D

Its not 4-5 more like 3-4.. You can't count trading our sixth as losing a player cus we get a possible top 5 NFL qb for years to come.
Then add to our swap of first:
This years third next years first and second
This years second next years first and third.
And I hope not but would cave at the last second to this years second next years 1 and 2.
No way do we pay more then those THREE picks. We can pick up three FA that will immediately HELP the team in areas we would have drafted but a rook is just that.
If he costs more then this years 1 & 2 as well as next (with above being preferred a third and not both seconds) then we add a player(s). Hightower if we sign him Buchannon if we sign him some one hopefully not CC or LL but they might be wht we need to make this happen.
Point being we are not losing 5 top fifty players we r trading our first for a better first then giving uo three extra picks that could be only one in th top fifty so understand that first.
Next rookies are just that ya some have rookie of the year play right away but a proven FA is always a good route. RGIII opens doors for talented FAs to WANT to play here.
RGIII for B&G! I support this message by ANY means.

Hail!

I have a history of not wanting to trade up. I'm generally a BPA-if-he-fills-a-need-else-trade-down guy.

In this case I want RGIII. I think this special young talent makes other young talent want to be here. I think the city gets sky high and we get on an emotional roll.

Your initial post is very rational and I can't really argue against it. I could be so wrong but everything I've seen tells me this guy is special.

We need a premier QB if we want to be the kind of team we really want to be.

Those who have read my posts know that I am quite conservative regarding player selection. Like DM, I'm normally a BPA or Trade back kind of guy... but RGIII is, in fact, special, a very rare talent. He will own this league, and, if drafted by an NFC team, may become the next Joe Montana/Steve Young to Andrew Luck's John Elway or Dan Marino.

I'd rather that happen as a member of the Redskins.

But, I'm not going to hold my breath.

Thanks Darth, I have a new desktop background now. RG3 to lead the beast of the NFC east!

I'd take RGIII over Cam myself... He isn't the exact same being a throw first qb. Just as athletic and we shall see his speed at the combine (not a factor here) his accuracy and vision is right on par w Luck....
What people are missing is his BRAIN! Smart humble and a positive influence on everything he is a part of. Every interview makes me admire him more and more. If we don't do it... We will forever rue the day.
This years first next years first this years third LL and next years third if it comes down to it... I love ya dirty thirty but u aint no RG homie. Shanny let Snyder handle this w his wallet lmao. Is that illegal? Pay the judges!
Get THIS kid! F tannehill F Flynn F Horton F manning(s) F IT. Time for RG III

Even the slightest improvement at the QB position would have had us in the playoffs last year. I dont understand the" mortgage the future" on a QB mentality.

If we were able to get one more draft like we had last year, I would consider it for next year on a guy like Barkley. BUT we still need one more exceptional draft to even consider going down that road, maybe 2.

Has giving up multiple 1st round picks translated into superbowls in the past???? It may be a QB driven league, Its not a QB only league.

Im not sying start the season with Rex either. I think you need 1 or 2 more options going into camp. No need for those options to break the bank or the future of the franchise. It wouldnt take much to be an improvement over last years play at QB.

You miss something very important.... In the Salary Cap era you CANNOT Build for Greatness. It would take multiple seasons to acquire the talent level via the draft, and under your scheme by the time the QB is picked in year 3 or 4, the contracts of the guys chosen in that first year are now expiring; and if they're any good they're headed for big time contracts somewhere else. You can win in the NFL without a Franchise RB/WR. You cannot WIN in the NFL without a Franchise QB. It's that simple.

I like RGIII a lot but I don't get how you take him over Cam... Especially after Cam broke rookie record after rookie record and not just dinky Panther records... RGIII is an unknown quantity regardless of his positive traits.

I could see arguing it if we knew only about Cam what we did before the draft. Especially because of Cam's character concerns. But after his rookie year where he didn't have off field issues and tore it up on the field, I have to agree with you Cam would be a no brainer over what we know about Griffin at this point.

Exactly. The quest for top quarterbacks goes on for decades. If we can get him we have to do it, even for two #1 picks and change. Like a lot of others, I'm typically very reluctant to trade up. But a top quarterback you want, not one you're settling for, is the one clear reason to do it.

Does two #1 picks and change mean the 2012 #1 and the 2012 #1? If so, I'm with you. Hopefully we won't have a top 10 pick in next year's draft anyway!

Sorry I did mean out of college.. Of course Cam blew it up this year. But looking at both in school I'd take RGiii the kid in law school who is ridiculously accurate fast and SMART. I think he will have a similar year to cam w less rush attempts yards and tds. Passing he will tear it up imo.
I hope its here and if so we need a big WR (FA).
He may not have a Cam rookie year who knows... Three years from now? I see him as one of the best in the league. Tannehill? Prolly not so much

I agree. I want him in B&G so bad Red. Even if he turns out to be a bust at least they tried. If we end up with a 2nd round QB that doesn't turn out then I will feel even worse.

Guys like this with so much potential only come around so often.

Lol, you got me. I forgot that SD got Shawne Merriman with the Giants pick from the 05 draft. The Rivers - Manning trade was a special circumstance indeed.

I still dont think were capable of making that kind of sacrifce yet, maybe next year. I'd like to see one more good draft out of our team before pulling the trigger on that kind of deal.

You think Barkley has more of a being an Elite qb then RGIII does?
I don't.
Pull the trigger and load up on proven vets. Losing next years first rounder isn't the end of the world. Sprinkle a second and a third possibly one more or a player trade and we r golden.
Skins gotta make a leap of faith some time abd this year its looking to payout really well w RG or luck @ pick number two. Trading to number ONE next year to get our guy will be much more expensive and imo not as promising as RG or Luck. (I'm not sold on the colts taking luck, combine could change that)

If we are able to pull off a trade to move up and take RG3, then we will have to be agressive in Free Agency. In my view, that means going after and getting guys like:

Carl Nicks OG Saints
Vincent Jackson
Desean Jackson
Dwayne Bowe

We will need weapons on offense who can do something with the ball, and with limited draft picks, we will be back in the Free Agency sweepstakes which is not my idea of a winning formula.
