Hmmm... "good Dallas offense". Did you see the same game? Dallas looked like the 3 Stooges, with Buddy Hackett added for good measure. 4 botched snaps. 6 fumbles in total... we recover ONE... ONE!!!

Romo spent the entire evening playing traffic cop with his receivers... looked like a sand lot game...

Yet, this Redskins defense figured out ways to keep them in the game.

This Redskins offense still botched multiple chances to put the game away.

Crap.

LPJ, that's the point though. If you are going to run your mouth you'd better be prepared to cover the #1 guy. Hall reminds me of Lavar, make a few awesome plays but lack in the fundamentals of the position. There is no excuse for the Dez catch. He plays soft every game yet wants to think he's a shutdown corner. He simply is not.

We knew Romo was going to do 2-3 step drops all day, and yet we still blitzed safeties! Sorry, but that is inexcusable.
+1... here's the thing.

Say what you want... if that was Carlos Rogers on Dez Bryant... that pass is knocked down.

Here's what ESPN Page2's "Tuesday Morning Quarterback" had to say about "the play":
Sour Play of the Week Washington leading Dallas 16-15 just before the two-minute warning, the Skins had the Boys facing third-and-21 on their 30. Since the average NFL snap gains somewhat over 5 yards, and Washington this season is allowing 6.1 yards per snap, all the Redskins needed do was play straight defense and a stop was likely. That cannot seriously be an eight-man blitz on third-and-21! The eight-man blitz is almost never seen, because it is like handing out a card that says "Please score a touchdown." Tony Romo threw a 30-yard completion to the single-covered Dez Bryant, penalty yardage was added, and a moment later the home team launched the winning kick.

On the possession, Washington defensive coordinator Jim Haslett called an eight-man blitz on first down, a seven-man blitz on second down and an eight-man blitz on third down. He also handed out cards saying "Please score a touchdown." Dallas settled for as field goal.

In San Diego the cheer-babes chant, "Stats! Stats! We have stats!"
In 2009, Washington had the league's ninth-ranked defense, playing a conventional, conservative style. In 2010, Haslett became the Skins' defensive coordinator and, arriving, declared he would install a blitzing defense that made big plays. It did, for the opposition. Blitzing madly, Washington sank to 31st in defense. Calling lots of six-or-more-man blitzes lets the defensive coordinator feel macho, but rarely leads to victory. As noted by reader Mike McLaughlin of Spokane, Wash., even Skins corner DeAngelo Hall thought an eight-man blitz on third-and-21 was ridiculous.

Last season against another Texas team, Houston, the Skins held a comfortable 17-point lead late in the third quarter. Straight defense would have made victory likely. Instead, Haslett called blitzes on 19 of the remaining 40 Houston snaps, and Washington lost. The low point came with the Redskins leading 27-20, Houston facing fourth-and-10 just before the two-minute warning -- a situation very similar to last night's. Just like last night, Washington did not need a sack or turnover, merely an incompletion. The Skins big-blitzed, leaving the other team's best wide receiver (in this case Andre Johnson) single-covered, just like last night. Johnson caught a long touchdown pass, and Washington had shot itself in the foot.

This sort of thing is an example of the reality that while NFL teams have gigantic staffs (the Redskins list 20 coaches) who do nothing but football year-round and boast of their long hours at the office, NFL teams consistently repeat obvious mistakes. The "Monday Night Football" error by Haslett against Dallas was nearly identical to his previous-year error against the Texans. Twenty coaches looked at film of the 2010 Texans loss and learned nothing from it.

With Washington vanquished, Buffalo, Detroit and Green Bay are the league's sole remaining undefeated clubs. Reader Eric Runnebaum of Topeka, Kan., notes that the Bills don't play the Packers or Lions this year, meaning it's still September, yet the sole remaining possible matchup of undefeateds in the 2011 NFL season is Green Bay at Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. "Unless that game ends in a tie, in which case Detroit at Green Bay in the regular season finale could, theoretically, be a pairing of undefeateds," Runnebaum adds.

That's a good point

we know he wouldn't have been able to intercept it - he most likely knocks it down ... while trying to hold onto it
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

And yet, Kerrigan still almost tipped that ball. It was a tight play that the Cowboys won. That happens.

A play that hacks me off far more than that was one of the long runs that went right at Rob Jackson who was filling in for Orakpo. Jackson was lost on the play. Had he fallen down to his right, he would've made a play. As it happened, he completely took himself out of it all on his own. Complete lack of recognition of a play that was coming directly at him. Piss poor, but still only one play.

There were plenty of plays to be made by our team. They didn't make them. We'll have to see if they step it up next week. If they do, we can feel good that they are turning the corner. if they don't, we'll see more of what we've been watching for the last twenty years.

That play really bugged me too. The lead blocker took on the redskins to his left, and instead of going to Jones for the tackle, he literally turned left and BLOCKED the lead blocker. It was weird, like an O-Lineman assisting with a chip.

As a coach you've gotta know the only thing they can do is go deep. So why not put help in that area? (first down area)

Granted, D Hall should've been jamming him from the beginning.

They had miscues because they played a lot of young players. However, they still had Romo, Bryant, Jones, and Witten. Dallas has a good offense.

I've consistently said that Hall is overrated. He makes some big plays because he takes chances. Sure that's nice to have, but in reality he is nothing more than an average cover corner. He might talk like an elite corner, but his play on the field doesn't back up all of that talk.

BUT isn't it Revis that last year or two ago was popn off about Randy Moss and Moss made a one handed catch in his face?
D hall is good above average had less passes his way prolly then Wilson but seriously he won the Dallas game for us last year EVERY CB gets burned he was prolly more focused w the horrible then executing it. I like D hall I like his loud mouth and his playing style... LL shoulda been ramming dez in the chest as soon as the ball got there possibly wounding his ribs for REAL

Whoa whoa whoa! What does Lavar have to do with anything. Lavar always did his job. Do we really have to dig up the past? For the record Lavar was an outstanding player surrounded by bums. You cant seriously compare Hall to Arrington.

Arrington always dominated his assignment. There wasnt a lineman in the league who could block him. There wasnt a runningback who could break his tackle. In his prime pre injury that is. Leave Arrington out of this.

Anyways back to the conversation at hand. Yes Hall ran his mouth. He should have delivered. Now Haslett should know to give him some help next time. Yes there will be a next time that is the good news. The next time I am hoping it will be playoff time or a game to go to the playoffs. Hall has a chance to redeem himself.

One more point I wanted to make about the defense.

With Rak and Kerrigan we can now get coverage sacks. You could realistically rush four drop the rest into coverage. Our secondary is good enough to stay with receivers for long enough so that Rak and Kerrigan have more time to get to the QB. This type of approach I say is best for third and long situations. When facing a Qb who is known to complete the pass fairly well. Ala Peyton Manning etc...

I dont know but if it has to be one man in coverage for us. I want the man to be Landry.

Ill put it this way. With the game on the line. Particularly 3rd and long. I rather have our gamer Landry handle the best receiver. Particularly the physical one. Like Dez Bryant. Landry may have been able to bat that ball down. Its not like Landry is terrible in coverage.

Landry is just clutch. Hall has his moments too. But against the more physical receivers I would rather have Landry. I guess this is coming from the Girls game.

Yeah definatley one play game on the line. I would choose Landry to cover the best receiver one on one. From this group definatley. Hall has too many mental lapses.

I haven't been in this thread much at all and I don't know the overall sentiment.

I don't blame D-Hall much for this play. It's a Feast or Famine call... We ended up on the short end of the stick. Romo was able to extend the play for a few reasons. He's quick and they called the perfect play to negate the pass rush. Kerrigan was on Romo's tail but he had to pull back and play his assignment and that was the RB setting up the screen. However, and there's no way that Kerrigan could have known this but he most likely could have pursued Romo cus there were another Jerseys near the screen to snuff it out if he abandoned his assignment. Really, it was just an amazing play on Romo's part. You can't expect DB's to cover for that amount of time, they all get beat. I was dissapointed when it happened too but afterwards you gotta stop being so butt-hurt about it and come back to reality.

I really like our defense. it definitely has the chance of being elite. But we definitely need to make changes 1: we can't have D-Hall on an island with very good-elite recievers (D. Bryant, M. Austin, L. Fitzgerald, H. Nicks, etc.) he is just not a very good cover corner, otherwise he is great. Good thing is Rams recievers suck..... very bad. So probably against the Rams he will probbably be fine. but if they r going to put him 1-on-1 against guys to come that are very good recievers (Deasean Jackson, Wes Welker, Brandon Marshall, Santonio Holmes, up and coming Stevie Johnson) we need a safety to double cover or help D-Hall. Also next year Fletcher I think turns 37! however I believe we're going to be picking with he 15th pick or so and that is a great range for 3 great ILB's they are: Vontaze Burfict, Mante Te'o, and Luke Kuechly . In that order of greatness. Other than that I think we're good. :celebrate: See YA! HTTR BTW Fletcher will be 37 and a free agent! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally would not have called an all out blitz in that situation. Did not like but have to live with it. Anyhow after a couple days I do think Hall will redeem himself. I think from that experience he is now going to be a better corner. Hall is already a good corner.

I also think Haslett will be sharper as well. The whole defense was lights out pretty much the whole night.

I'd go with Wilson and cheat OJ over the top... I would have stunted the Dline and sent LL right down the middle. QB's won't be looking for WRs with Landry head straight for them, they'll be looking for someone to dump the ball off to...

That works for me too. Key is help over the top in a key situation.

Yeah I am over it now. I do think this team will be better off now. If you think about it all teams have to go through the growing pains. How this team responds will say a lot about its character. Cliche I know but its true.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!

The all out blitz was a bad call in that situation. Nonetheless, Hall had a chance to make that play and prove he's an elite corner on National TV. Revis shut Bryant down once they took Cromartie off of him. Hall just got beat.

I am a fan of Hall, but it is what it is. Cowboys got lucky.

That 1 defensive play did not work out but that is just the way the ball bounces sometimes

it was 3rd and 21 for crying out loud - the chances of them converting are pretty slim

our defense has got some issues but they are improved from last season and will be a force for the rest of this season

The defensive play calling must get better - Landry is a VERY special player - the defense against the run has got to be effective for the whole game
we did not allow a lot of rushing yards EXCEPT for a couple of run plays - THIS MUST GET BETTER
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
