I was just pointing out that it's OK to let players go and have them become 'stars' elsewhere

Mike & Bruce know who will help and EVEN if we have to let a really good player go, we're lucky cause we have a bunch of them to choose from

I hope that Kelly or any one of the wideouts that are released become really great players

why not - the guys we have will be better for us

Kelly's good and I think that's the reason that these guys have put up with all the health issues

I just don't see him making the roster

The fact that we have enough talent at WR to have this thread be legit is great. The notion that Stallworth could easily not make this team after what we had last year points to real progress.

Excellent point. Stallworth has played well enough to make this team, but most likely, he won't.

Will Stallworth win roster slot? Redskins notebook
BY ZAC BOYER

ASHBURN

--Most 10-year NFL veterans, unless in the real twilight of their careers, don't typically arrive at training camp having to fight for a spot on a roster.

Donte Stallworth isn't like them. The 6-foot, 220-pound receiver signed a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins on July 29, at the time thinking he could take advantage of what appeared to be a lack of depth at the position.

It hasn't been as easy as he thought.

"I won't say it looked like it was wide open, but there were some opportunities coming in here," Stallworth, who turns 31 in November, said yesterday at Redskins Park. "Yeah, I wanted to jump in and try to do some things here."

Stallworth, with Baltimore last season, said he heard from the Redskins right away and didn't want to wait any longer after the five-month lockout ended. Thus far, he's spent a significant portion of the preseason working as a second-team receiver.

He caught three passes for 32 yards against Pittsburgh in the opener on Aug. 12, but had just one grab for 23 yards against Indianapolis on Aug. 19. Against the Ravens Thursday, Stallworth didn't catch a pass and was targeted only once--an attempted 40-yard toss early in the third quarter from John Beck, who overthrew the ball and had it intercepted by Lardarius Webb.

Santana Moss and Jabar Gaffney are the clear starters, but Anthony Armstrong and Terrence Austin have also played well in the preseason. With rookie Leonard Hankerson, a third-round pick, also favored to make the team, it seems as if Stallworth and five others are vying for one spot.

"I really try not to worry about that stuff. I try to just go out and play, you know?" Stallworth said. "I'm trying to practice hard every day, be on top of my assignments and go out and show the coaches I know what I'm doing and make plays."

I think he's gone. A casualty of having too much depth/youth, even if we don't have a superstar at the position.

Why Kelly might not be one of the cuts on Tuesday.
12. Don’t expect the Redskins to put Malcolm Kelly back on injured reserve. They did so last season hoping to see what he could add this summer. Instead, he got hurt again. Also, Shanahan just refers to his injury as a “sore foot”. Shanahan also said he expects Kelly to return to practice in the next few days. Keep this in mind: if he’s healthy, they can cut him without an injury settlement. Hence the patience.

Believe Shanny made it out like Kelly would play this week. I REALLY would love to see him play and get catches/yds. We really do need a healthy 6'4 WR.

I'd love it frank - Kelly is something special to Mike & Kyle, BUT ...

we are looking at a bunch of guys that can be counted on to be available ALL THE TIME - Kelly is not that :)

He's a bum
He's washed up
He will "limp" away from the NFL just like Devon Thomas will.
Both are the picks of the the Danny and Cerrato

Need I say more.....?

I think it is wholly unfair to compare Devon and Malcolm, though it is so hard not to. Devon, just never got it. Still doesn't from what I can tell. Malcolm just can't get and stay healthy. Maybe some of that is his fault, maybe not. But its not a maturity, professionalism and inability to face reality problem with Malcolm. It is with Devon.

All the chances this franchise gave that whinny snit and he has the nerve to refer to us as the "deadskins" F him and the horse he rode in on.

Moss.
Gaf.
AA.
Hank.
Austin.
Niles.
Banks.

We're going to run with 7 and only carry 2 QB's. IDC about what Banks can do, he's shown us what he can do. This defense will force punts. The offense is still in flux. We can't piss away potential points like we're the Colts.

And sir, I won't dispute that. But considering the youth movement, I seem him squeaking in. He wont clear waivers. I like Donte a lot too. Heck, maybe they can find a way to "injure" Niles before the season starts. Acute bronchitis.

I won't be mad with Donte on the team. I think he hasn't had a legit shot on a team in a while. He wasn't being used correctly in Baltimore. He's a guy that if you can catch him in stride, he'll get massive YAC.
