What the hell did he say that he shouldn't have. I hope he really believes what he said and even if he doesn't, what is wrong with him trying to get his teammates to believe it is possible.
And it is possible. It happens almost every year a team goes from worst to first in their division. Especially of their division has a many questions as the nfc east does. The Egirls are the only team that don't have huge questions and if they lose Vick they are DONE! That nut bag V Young would only last a few games before being benched and them he might try to kill himself.
He should not have said anything. There is nothing wrong with him believing it, just don't say it. You think that these players are optimistic with trotting out John Beck or Rex Grossman as the starter? When you have Michael Vick, Eli Manning, and Tony Romo in our division and that's not including all of the other QB'S in the league, and we are trotting out John Beck or Rex Grossman? Both of these players have had many chances to start for other teams and all they did was ride the pine and all the sudden these guys can lead us to win the East? The only way that happens is on Madden 12.

Or he could have said...
This is a quote from Brian Orakpo“It’s our goal to reach that Super Bowl,” ... “That’s every team’s goal. That’s our goal especially. We went 6-10 and we had our ups and we had our downs, but we were in a lot of games last year and we’ve just got to be more consistent. That’s one thing we’re preaching this year.”
I agree with you on this. If he would have just said that then I would not have a problem with him saying that.

Well, to be fair he didn't say they would, but that he feels like they could. Little bit of a difference, but either way, I can't hate on a dude trying to build the team up and think positive.
If he were to say something like, "We'll probably win two games this year," or something to that extent - I'd be pissed.

Maybe, just maybe, the players have more faith in Grossman or Beck because they have faith in Shanahan. Grossman actually played better in his three starts last year than Mcnabb did. Not a lot better, but he was better.
Other than Eli, Grossman is the only QB in the division with SB experience.
He was asked point blank if he thought the team could win the division. what should he have said? I'm glad he didn't give one of those trite answers like, "we are taking it one game at a time" or "ask me in November". He was asked a yes our no question and answered it the only way he could.

I'd be such a hated player because I'm way too sarcastic. If I caught flak for being optimistic, in my very next interview I'd predict 10 interceptions in the 1st qtr of the 1st game. LOL Personally I'd love to be interviewed and would laugh the entire time.

That's the great thing about the NFL, you just don't know. But I love the confidence and it just seems different this year.
Yeah, the big difference there being we have annually gone for the one or two big names that were at the end of their careers and in need of one last big paycheck to set them up for life (fat Albert being the exception, all he wanted was the big paycheck). The Eagles (to their credit) have signed a BUTT LOAD of talent (where do they find all of this cap space to keep signing folks with?) and they're all living a big ol' violent love fest over there. They're all so dang happy to be playing together that they're punching each other out and then giggling about it afterwards.

You just touched on something. Grossman was NOT a lot better then Mcnabb, in McNabb's worst year in the NFL since his rookie season that speaks volume. I now understand why McNabb played horribly and when the Redskins start losing games the players aren't gonna have confidence in Grossman or Beck for that fact. I don't care if Grossman has Super Bowl experience because he had no business starting for the Bears in the first place. As far as him answering the question he should have just said no comment or he could have said of course our goal is to win the Super Bowl , win the division but I'm not making any predictions, or something similar to that. Grossman has done NOTHING in this league for him to make any predictions.

I'm not so sure it's wise to judge Grossman on his performance in Chicago.
The Bears put their emphasis on Defense and don't have a great offensive system. Jay Cutler has not performed as well in Chicago as he did in Denver.
I'm not saying Grossman is the second coming of Tom Brady, but who knows what he'll do in a system where Offense isn't considered secondary.
I tell you this much if we'd had the Defense we had under Blache in 08-09 last year, we'd have won far more than six games.
That's where we really need to see the most improvement

Well, Grossman was a free agent for a few days and there were at least a few teams needing a QB and nobody other then the Redskins offered a contract to Rex Grossman. I tell you what if I'm wrong then I will be the first to admit that I was wrong and I will eat my words.

If you TALK the TALK, you should WALK the WALK.
Anything short of fulfiling that prediction is a FAILURE and a cause for ridicule with the media in the future.
Good players let their game do the TALKING. Several thoughtful alternative responses have been proiposed in this thread if they had been posed the question. It is not difficult to be cautious and optimistic all the same. We all have LEARNED the hard way to be cautious and optimistic as fans.
Grossman is a wanna-be starter with no future anywhere if he does not win the position here this year. We had LAST place in the NFC East last year. We have a bunch of new players who must yet learn the system and he predicts an NFC Championship? Please
Some of you ask why are the Skins the laughing-stoke of the NFL?
Very simple: We give ample opportunity to others to laugh at us.

Having been at FedEx last night and being being surrounded by Steeler fans, I can say this, after the first teamers finished playing, there were no Steeler fans laughing at us or even crying it is just preseason. As a matter of fact, they seemed to be in awe of us as were we.
I am not talking about the win. That wasn't what was important - we set the tone in that game and for the season. Only three penalties. No sacks on our QB. We ran the ball against a stout run defense. Grossman played great (
Would you be more happy if he played horribly?). We played TEAM ball last night. TEAM ball is what wins games. This ain't the Skins that
GAVE (past tense) ample opportunitities to laugh at us. AND get this, these guys have only been together a week. Landry and Atogwe didn't play.
If Grossman's comments lit a little fire under our team - then more power to him. A little swagger won't hurt at all.

Dude, no tone has been set for the season. This is one game and we did NOTHING until their second unit came in. Yeah, I know that we started at our 1 yard line but we did Nothing with it. Our first touchdown was when they brought out their scrubs. Sure we may have gotten 452 yards but we had only 16 points, and had this been a regular season game we would have lost this game. I'm sorry but as long as we have a collection of 2nd and 3rd stringers trying to be like a starting QB and Mike Shanahan is running this team, I have no faith that we will do anything period.

I watched the game and I saw several players looked very good. However, as a team I was not impressed. like what??????? crap are you babbling about.
Have you forgotten how horrible the offense was last year.
The o-line stank last year. If that same unit was on the field grossman would have got sacked for a saftey. Q.b. protection was a major issue last year.
To come out and move the ball from 1 yard line was awesome.
To see the run game flowing in shanny's system was nice.
I seen improvement last night guess that is just not good enough for some.
From the worst in the Nfl to a top offense don't happen over night.
Will it happen this year?? probably not but keep adding talent to the system. i know that it will.
yes- the defensive seondary still worries me.

Yea they did do something at 1 yard line move the ball and get the hell out of there.
That was against the 1st string right??? someone correct me if i'm wrong.
Oh, wow, now that's really impressive. How many points did this offense score against their first team defense?
Don't blame the O for the missed chip shot FG.
That FG should have been made. My point is that we moved the ball down the field but we got no touchdown out of it. Not just that first drive but our first unit offense was in the game the first half and we scored what 7 points?
