I say, let's give him shot! We went 6-10 with Mc Nothing. Look at Young and Farve, they sucked with their first tream. I know this much, he wants to be the starter and it's his for now. I know Shanny likes competition and nothing is free. In the past Snyder had his favorites that didn't even have to practice. So let the games begin and the best man gets the job!

I'm really really worried about his arm strength. I don't want a repeat of Mark Brunell....

Yall can talk trash about McNabb all you want but back here in reality with him at the helm, it was the most exciting Redskins offense that I can remember (I'm 27). You knew they were going to take shots.

If Beck really has a noodle arm, I hope that our WR's can get some good YAC. A bad result of a noodle armed QB is that the running lanes get clogged up as they dare the QB to toss it deep and stretch the D.

I expect Grossman will beat him out for the starting job.

I have none. That is not to say I expect little or nothing from him -- just that I know so little about him that it's practically impossible to weigh in one way or the other. I know that Shanny has made stars out of journeymen in that past, and am leaning on that knowledge to fuel my yearly wish basket.

That's a clip of John Beck throwing an incomplete pass from 8 years ago with a different sized football than they use in the NFL.

Also, he got a huge running start (10 yards), let go of the ball at his own 36 and it landed at about the 3 or 4 yard line. So it's not quite 70 yards.

It's an impressive toss, but in training camp, which is occurring right now, there are huge arm strength questions.

Consensus here seems to be low expectations for Beck. That strikes me as a good thing for a change. Think back on how many times over the past years we've all had high hopes for the starting QB and been massively disappointed.

Beck really has nowhere to go but up. He's not a guy we traded away a bunch of picks for. He's not a QB who had a lot of success with some other team like McNabb or Brunell. He's not a guy we drafted in the first round to be the franchise guy.

Its kind of a rare chance for a Redskins QB to come in here with no hype at all. Just go out there and be ADEQUATE, and he'll beat most expectations.

Shanahan says Grossman reporting tonight, meaning he's signed.

I've heard that even though he's overthrowing them, they're lame floundering ducks of a throw. LOL So doesn't that insinuate that he's over-exerting himself to get the ball out there and thus losing his form and causing the ball not to spiral as it should? Or.... LOL I don't know what else would cause the ball to go lame.

Not sure else where to put this but Beck officially changed his number from 3 to 12. He'd worn #12 all through his childhood and on to BYU but it was always taken once he got to the pros. Malcolm Kelly gave it up so Beck could don it again. Maybe it will be the source of new powers for him?

It was Kelly's idea for the # change, he switched to #14 because he wore #4 in college

Player Numbers by Position
(NFL Rule 5, Section 1, Article 4)

All players must wear numerals on their jerseys in accordance with Rule 5, Section 3, Article 3c (see NOTE 1), and such numerals must be by playing position as follows:

quarterbacks, punters, and placekickers, 1-19 (and 10-19 for wide receivers if 80-89 are all otherwise assigned);

running backs and defensive backs, 20-49;

centers, 50-59 (60-79 if 50-59 unavailable);

offensive guards and tackles, 60-79;

wide receivers and tight ends, 80-89;

If a player changes his position during his playing career in the NFL and such change moves him out of a category specified above, he must be issued an appropriate new jersey number.
