The Redskins plan to start Chris Chester at right guard.

Chester couldn't hold down a starting job in Baltimore due to ineffectiveness, but the Redskins gave him $20 million. The 'Skins have one of the worst offensive lines in football and are planning to stage a full-blow competition between Rex Grossman and John Beck at quarterback. They are the leaders in the clubhouse for Stanford QB Andrew Luck.

Heavy sigh....

Well we still need a solid QB. We have question marks on the offensive line. Trent Williams was great for a rookie last year. I expect him to be even better. Our offensive line was better then the year before. So I expect even more progress this year.

Running backs could also be a concern. We have a big unknown in Helu. His career at Nebraska was promising and he did produce. Torrain returns from a solid year but finished it injured. So at least we have some depth now.
We may have a two headed monster in Torrain and Helu. Hey theres some reason for optimism with the RBs.

WR also looks promising. Hankerson had a great career in College. He was also great in the Senior Bowl. We resigned Santana Moss and Cooley and Davis well are both very good. Armstrong was a solid contributor and we are still waiting to see what Kelly can do.

The biggest concern is obviously the QB. Just cross your fingers is all I can say. While Grossman can be productive at times. He always seems to throw the pick in the most critical situations. Beck... I havent a clue what John Beck can do. I have seen some highlight tapes of college but have also seen atrocious play while he was in Miami. Like I said just cross your fingers and hope the kid works his butt off.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!

Funny I just posted that on twitter about his release. Here's the thing, he's in his 3rd year. Two under Detroit and one in Houston- didn't play I don't think. His Stats are not that good though. 55.1% completion.

Grossman has plenty of athleticism and arm strength, but is one of the worst decision-making quarterbacks of our generation. Wildly erratic, the former first-round pick has completed 54.2 percent of his career passes and never topped the 56.0 mark in an individual season.

I know Orlovsky, with the Lions then, ran out of the end zone for a safety without being forced out, but he was with the horrible Lions, he had an excuse for that decision. His career high completion pct is still higher than Grossman. He is 6' 5" Grossman 6' 1". Knows our O. Go get Danand Rex and!!!
Let the best man win the back up job between Dim, Clemens and Grossman.

Tell me this doesn't mean we will sign Dan Orlovsky. He has to be better than Clemens as a third QB.

Coach Mike Shanahan seems to be intent on going with Beck and Rex Grossman, who remains unsigned.

“You talk about a guy not being experienced — I believe in the guys,” Shanahan told reporters on Friday, per the Associated Press. “I believe in ‘em. And I’ve been doing this for a long time. And I put my reputation on these guys that they can play.”

Dan Orlovsky played at a fourth tier football college - UCONN, and has not proven he's anything more than that. I wouldn't want him on this team if he was willing to play for FREE.

Good. That would have been almost as bad as the signing a player from Dallas or New England. Almost.

At practice this morning, Keiland Williams lined up exclusively at FB and Mike Sellers was exclusively at TE.

Some notes on Beck from yesterday's practice...

QB John Beck overthrew three deep passes and underthrew another during team drills. None of the four was a tight spiral. That’s a trend we saw throughout the offseason workouts. Just because his ball wobbles doesn’t guarantee he’ll be ineffective, but let’s see if it causes his passes to flutter when the pads come out. For now, it’s just something to file in the memory bank.

Russellmania980

At least for today, Beck looks great on his boots and play action + underneath, everything deep is wobbly and mostly inaccurate. #Redskins

Rich_Campbell

John Beck's passes have a tendency to flutter. He has overthrown three deep balls today with some wobblers. #Redskins

Russellmania980

Beck struggling a bit here accuracy wise on some throws, just missed Armstrong wide open on a boot right . Bad overthrow

Our best bet for some success this year is to develop a strong running game and a put your lights out defense. Our QB situation really has me concerned.

Why? Even if e can get him at a relatively cheap price, which isn't going to happen, I still don't want him!

Okay, we just got Tim Hightower and re-signed Jammal Brown. I believe Hightower may be in line for a starting role. He's a one cut runner, faster than Torain (in game speed and probably 40 time) and did some nice things with AZ last year including an 80 yard scoring run. Shanny's done a lot more with a lot less.

As for Brown I would have preferred to look elsewhere, but he is a talented player who was learning a new position while also recovering from injury. Hopefully he comes back and is able to dominate. The interior line is still laughably thin though and easily the worst in the league.

C/G Chris Chester and swingman Artis Hicks are awesome depth, but as of now they'd be thrust into starting roles. The Free Agent cupboard is pretty much bare though at either of those positions so we may be in a bit of a pinch.

As for the rumors we are in on Braylon Edwards... I hope they're true. A WR corps of Edwards, Moss, Gaffney, Stallworth, Armstrong, Cooley and Davis would be pretty damn good.

Chester is not a LG, he's a C/RG and the Redskins have already said they planned to use him at RG. If anyone on the current roster plays LG it's going to be Lichtensteiger, hands down.

Will we have the worst offense in the NFL? I am thinking yes. Our offense is going to be a nightmare. Andrew Luck and the 2012 season can't get here soon enough.

You might as well get over that Luck chant. The only way we end up with him is if he drops out of the top ten. But lets assume he is the first pick like everyone expects him to be, we will need to trade up many spots.

No Mike Shanahan coached team will finish last in the NFL. His teams have never finished worse than 6-10. Last year the team had less talent and played a much tougher schedule.
