skins2357 wrote:Sorry, let me me clarify my argument that "WR are not difference makers"....

WRs ARE difference makers in the right situation, and are necessary. But there are too many moving parts that directly affect the WR position. The O Line, the QB, the other WRs. To compare my comment to Jerry Rice is rediculous, seeing that Jerry Rice had one the greatest QBs of all time and a great O Line. If we were set at these other positions, and were some skill positions away, then great, break the bank and get some. BUT WE ARE NOT. We have too many other holes that we can fill through the draft, to sure up these other aspects, before we start adding "difference making" WRs IMO.

Now looking at those "moving parts" and why any WR we get would not be a "difference maker".

1. Our QB is not good (rex)
2. Our O Line is not good (yet, as I think MS will fix this)
3. We lack other talent at WR

IMO, we need to draft the BPA After we move back in a defensive position of need (OLB, DE, NT) and use the 2nd round to draft a OG and a QB (hopefully by moving back into the late 1st of the draft we pick up another 2nd). We need to sure up our defense and O Line before we start adding WRs IMO.

Now if Mike drafts a WR at 10, Im not gonna be mad. I trust his judgement and this is just a personal opinion.

MS will not fix the offensive line. That's for certain. His 3-4 D and QB situations are such a mess that they'll have to addressed first.

I'm of the mind that the QB makes a great wideout not the other way around. Julio Jones might be a great player in the league but we'll need a real quarterback to figure that one out.

I'd rather trade down if at all possible. Maybe work on adding some interior offensive linemen.

Skinsfan, you obviously understood my point. The point was simply there are too many moving parts that directly affect a WR for that WR to be a difference maker, and we dont have them. So essentially, any WR we get right now I doubt would be a "difference maker".

To the point that MS will not fix the O Line, I disagree. I think that this offseason they will use FA and maybe a draftpick to sure up the O Line. His 1st rounder last year was O Line in an effort to fix it, I think your underestimating him there. I mean if we come away from FA with Ryan Harris and Davin Joseph we are a LG away from having a rebuilt O Line. Im hoping we use a 2nd on Rodney Hudson (if we can trade back and pick up an extra 2nd). Then we can use the 1st rounder on a 3-4 D guy and a 2nd on a QB( Locker, Mallett, Ponder) and come out with an OL looking like this:

LT - Williams
LG - Hudson
C - Monty/Lichensteiger
RG - Davin Joseph
RT - Ryan Harris

That looks like a pretty darn good OL on paper atleast. I think MS WILL fix the OL this year, call it a hunch.
Mike/Bruce - If your going to spring big this year in Free Agency, please spring big on offensive lineman! I cant watch Rabach anymore!

Both Joseph and Harris have ties to the Redskins, but it would be a shame to dump Brown after one season where we traded an arm and a leg for him. He was injured last season. I'd bring him back.

I could care less what any player cost - the only way to improve is to play the players that give you the best group of players that suit what you want to get done

I am all for Brown (and all of our players) being given every chance to show that he can help - he's a part of a group that I'm sure the coaches will give every chance to BUT at the same time we cannot just keep him because we traded for him

Not every trade is going to work out and these guys have already made mistakes but you don't make things any better by playing players who don't work out

btw - I would not categorize the Brown trade as costing "an arm and a leg"
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The lineup as conceived here wouldn't win six games even if the D is improved. I hate being this negative, but the situation is desperate. I can't see how MS helped last year. So many blunders were made. I expect much of the same this year.

Well crazyhorse, I think MS did make an effort to improve the OL, but many ppl underperformed. Jamaal Brown was pretty bad, even though he improved during the end of the yr. Also Hicks was terrible and Rabach was Rabach.

I agree with that Jamaal Brown comment where we cant keep him just because we traded for him. I know ppl on here want to say "if he's healthy" BUT we dont know when he will be healthy or how he will be on the right side, coming from the left. I wont lie, I thought he was a major pickup last offseason but was very underwhelmed with his play. Yes, injuries caused some of his problems, but he is aging quickly and IMO we should just cut ties.

Ryan Harris is a MS O lineman, drafted by MS with experience AND SUCCESS in the ZBS. If we can get him at the same price as Brown, I take Harris in a second

I believe that the concern with Brown is somebody might be willing to give him big bucks to be a left tackle and if they do, we won't match it.

I agree with your comment at the bottom (kinda) though we just won 6 games. My response is "So what? I'm not in a hurry."

If, in 3 years, we have replaced 6 of these guys with good draft picks, well now we're talking. Then I have Mallet throwing to Jones and 2 other studs behind a young awesome line (with pretty much anybody running behind it).

Can't take credit, it's basically from an entry on Kissing Suzy Kolber.

I did find it to be hilarious though. Also, there's some NSFW language in the article, I hope that's okay for this forum.

I agree we shouldn't give up on Brown but we didn't give up an arm and a leg for him. We basically traded down from the third to the fifth to get him.

We gave up a third and got a fifth. Not a huge amount for a relatively young two time prowler.
