Pass blocking is part of a RB's job duties though, so rather than a bonus, a RB who cannot passblock at all is actually more of a liability IMO. I remember when CP went on IR and Betts took over for his good year, that was still the factor we missed. I'm not trying to argue shades of gray, but I think it's an important enough facet of a RB's job to highlight.

Torain is barely faster than CP, if at all. All the love for him based on a few carries is pretty crazy. I mean his totals last week were nice, but the 3.9 ypc average that he had is nothing to brag about. CP was actually averaging 5 ypc before he got hurt. This isn't the Denver Broncos, with that offensive line, where you can just plug in any old no-name off the street like Torain and expect great results.

Ever since Trevor Mattich and BMitch talked about it on one of the post games on CSN, it's kinda stuck in my mind that passblocking IS in a RB's job duty description. We've been spoiled with CP and when we get average or even a little below average, it looks horrid b/c of the context.

I heard it's going to be Torain, Simpson, and Williams.

I thought Shanny said Simpson would be #2? He's a quick scat type back that would compliment Torain well I think.. I love Portis, and he will always be a Redskin at heart to me no matter what happens to him after this. Although, I must admit i'm excited to see these young fresh legs come in and show off their skills.. Especially Chad Simpson and Ryan Torain. I don't see Portis making much of an impact as a Redskin the rest of the year. If he comes back in 6 weeks, and the Redskins are making a Playoff push with Torain leading the way.. I don't see Shanny changing anything to let Portis back into the offense.

There are going to be some stud rb's available in the draft next year. It's looking more and more like we are going to have to use a pick on an rb.

I hope not. With all the talent at that position, why would you ever pick one up in the first three rounds? Make's no sense, especially with the needs this team has... QB, O-Line, WR, CB, 3-4 Linebacker.

If it were up to me it would the following.

1st round - QB
2nd round - LB
3rd round - WR
4th round - G
5th round - LB
6th round - RB
7th round - D-Line

RB is the most overrated position in football. Mike Shanahan has taught us that. Unless you have elite speed and/or vision, you're pretty much all the same. That's why there are so few guys worth spending the money on and they're usually used up by the time you give the big contract (LJ, Shaun Alexander, and so many others it's not even funny).

I'm actually a big fan of these moves, I'm just not ready to call Chad the "Next Big Thing".

Your point is valid... but your examples suck. Neither of the players you mentioned were "big money"... and neither was viewed, including by the coaches, as little more than a chance to wring a little more from players on the backside of their careers... Neither was brought in to be the "franchise"... these were low cost "look-see" deals.
