I'm with you. I gave us little chance of winning going in. We went toe-to-toe with a playoff contender and lost in OT. We are a team rebounding from a 4-12 season, this game should not have even been this close.
It only hurts because we had a 17 point lead that we had to painfully watch slip away.
My 8-8 prediction still stands. We're getting better. We fared better than Indy did last week. Houston played a good 60+ minutes....we played a good maybe 45 (if I'm being generous).
Good win, Houston.

I thought the team played hard. It's tough to lose but after last week, who would have thought the offense (especially McNabb) would have torched the Texans. He was carving them up. They are doing better, the Texans are a good team so they are getting better against good teams.

You know what. I honestly feel like we tried to play with muscle and not with our head. I'll give two simple reasons why:
1 - on defense, instead of trying to outsmart them, we tried to out hit them. Landry had some great plays but at the cost of our own players - including him. He single handily took out our two starting safeties and on a few plays there in the 4th qtr and OT, he wasn't where he was supposed to be or went for the big hit instead of just making a play.
#2 - Where was the run game. We didn't even try. Sure the passing game was working and all but the thing was that by running the ball, the clock moves, the defense get's a chance to catch their breath, etc. Got to have a better game plan than that with such a veteran team.

Great points... I also hate to bring up a sore subject about the running game. I love Portis but he has lost a step. We need a guy that can hit the hole and make a few yards when he wouldn't have been able too.
The 24 year old Portis would have scored on that cutback down at the Houston 5... Ah well... I'll root for who they have to play with now.
Oh and CUT LARRY JOHNSON TOMORROW!!!

The Redskins have no running game. That was the main reason why we lost today. The Redskins defensive front still cannot get pressure without the blitz. That was why we gave up 500 yards in the air. Sure there were individual plays where we made mistakes, but these were the chronic shortcomings that affected the direction of the game.
While it is sad to see our running game go into hibernation, it is nice to see the passing game coming along. Who said Joey Galloway has nothing left in the tank? He averaged almost 30 yards per catch today. Not bad for an old man. McNabb had quite a few targets out there today.
This is a heart wrenching loss, but at least there are signs of life in the passing game . . .

Blowing a 17 point lead in the 4th qtr is absolutely inexcusable. The defense and offense both suffered a complete meltdown in the 4th qtr and that's gotta be on the coach's shoulders. The team's inability to run the ball is going to be it's Achillies heel all season long. Portis and this O-line clearly aren't up to the task.

I'm sure most people who follow football know but if you do not, if you have followed Haslett's career, his teams have avg middle of the league in yards given up. He's no great guru. I have to put alot of today's defensive woes on him.

I think there are a lot of positives to take away from the game. ... remember ... new offense, new defense ... new everything against a tough Texan team, and Shaub was spectacular, as was Johnson (as usual).
I don't know how you can give up 497 yards in the air and still get 5 sacks and all of those pressures .... it really is just a great performance from the Texan offense rather than a poor defensive effort in my opinion.
Doughty is not Ed Reed, and this really is one of the weak spots .... can you even imagine this defense with Sean Taylor???? Man, I wash he were still with us.

Nobody "locked down" on Andre J and Kevin W and we got torched. Bring back Darrell Green.

Perfectly stated! Couldnt have said it better, but Im sure i could add a few grains of salt to the hatchet wound that is this franchise. You know like not being able to get a TD in 2 first quarter redzone possesions. Or having no running game to speak of. Or our 1st round #4 pick that was a beacon of hope for building for the future going down for the season. Ah.. but i digress, everyone knows this story. But hey, on the plus side, we play Philidelphia, Green Bay, And Indy in the next month so we've got that going for us!

"On third and 7, why try that timing play to the end zone? Why not something to get your kicker just a little bit closer? A 47 yard try is a bit easier than a 52 yarder."

They threw it to whatever receiver was being covered by Rogers. He got beat over and over and over again.

I hate this loss as much as any of you reading/typing. I do have to make a comment here though...
Frankly, I was pleased by the choice to go for the kill like that. It shows balls and faith in your kicker. Screw that sissy 3 yard runn stuff... I liked it. It didn't work, but such is life. Move on. There are way too many positives after today to be whining about the loss. This team is improving. Playing like they did today is a LOT better than a 4-11 team. Keep supporting our Skins!

Offense...
The good...
Our receivers/tight ends in the passing game played very well. Moss looked like the guy we say in 2006 and Galloway and Armstrong made some big catches.
ey and Davis obviously made some big plays as well.
Trent Williams played a very solid game and Rabach did a better job this week than he did last week.
Portis had some tough runs despite there being very little running room.
McNabb for three quarters played great football. Haven't seen a Skins qb play like that in a LONG time.
The bad...
Run blocking, obviously. There were simply no holes to run through. This is not just the olinmen, but is an issue with the tight ends.
ey and Davis simply aren't good blockers and are terrible at sealing off the edge on runs to the outside.
Jammaal Brown...so far he sucks. He got embarrassed by Mario Williams, got no push in the running game, and had a very costly penalty. So far he is had not been the player that we thought he would be.
Oline depth...the bottom line is that Heyer is god awful. He probably should not even be in the NFL. When Williams got hurt it was game over.
LJ is done. The play where he tried to reverse fields was awful.
McNabb in the 4th...He had Galloway WIDE OPEN for a sure TD but missed him. That, imo, was the turning point.
Defense...
The good...
We got 5 sacks (I think that was the total) and Carlos finally caught a pick.
Landry played a great game. He was the only one out that there truly making a difference.
Hall...he was quiet but looks like teams are afraid to go his way.
The bad...
Just about everything else.
Our dline is an abortion. They can't get any push on running plays and pressure was only generated when we blitzed.
Linebackers...Orakpo got a sack but by and large was very quiet. Carter struggled big time today, missing tackles and struggling in coverage. It's not wonder the 49ers didn't want him anymore as a 3-4 lb. Rocky and Fletcher, outside of a few plays, were very quiet.
Rogers....well he was embarrassed today. Whoever he was covering was who got the ball. The Texans abused him.
Safeties not named Landry....they stink.
The 3-4 is looking like a big mistake at this point.
Special Teams....
The good....
Lorenzo Alexander made a nice play.
Gano on kick offs.
The bad...
Everything else. A blocked kick and a missed kick (can't trust FSU kickers).
Thomas was very mediocre as a returner and made a stupid decision taking one kick out of the end zone.

Oh and if Shanny didn't like the media before now, just wait til this week. Probably not the best idea to announce a media policy that you know the reporters are going to hate and then go and blow a 17 point second half lead.

I hate this loss like everyone reading/typing but I have to pipe in here.
Frankly I liked the choice to go for the kill like that. It shows balls and faith in your kicker. 5 yards for an NFL kicker with a good leg (at that distance) isn't a big deal. Why be a sissy and only inch him closer?
There are too many positives to be taken from this game to focus on the negative. The Skins blew a big lead today, but it was also against a very good football team that is an Offensive nightmare for defenses. Suck it up, quit whining, and keep cheering on our beloved Skins!
