Nice move. CArriker is better suited to the 3-4 despite playing in the 4-3 these past years. A DT/DE tweener who will be right at home competing with Daniels, Gholston and others for DE in the 3-4.
Haslett drafted Carriker when he was Rams HC. Good character too, supposedly.

I'm 100% ok with this b/c it upgrades a position with a young player who's going to take the place of a player like Griffin.
We really didn't give up much at this point for this player and the potential that he has. Keep in mind that I think our current D-Cord. was there with him when he was drafted so he knows his potential.

Can't really dislike this trade. That is unless someone had their hearts set on a big-time player they were certain would be there in the early 5th Round, but are certain will be gone by the later 5th Round.

Actually, he has considerably more. Jame's knee was never able to recover. Carriker is, reportedly, recovering nicely.

2009 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Height 6-6
Weight 296 lbs.
Grade: 70
Comment: Carriker suffered an ankle injury last season and was moved from NT to UT where he could be a better fit going forward. Carriker has good size and strength with good quickness. He can be physical playing the run. He has enough strength to control the center and keep LBs free from behind. He reacts well and shows good effort and toughness. He is quick enough to penetrate and disrupt blocking schemes but tends to play slightly upright where he can get washed inside at times. Athletically he has good agility. He can sink his weight and locate the ball quick inside. As a pass rusher he is active inside but needs to refine his up field moves. He can create the inside push when he reverts to the power rush but is missing the quick burst to clear at this time. His ability to combine his moves needs developing. Overall, an active, intense player inside whose second season production was affected by injury during the year.

It's the Eagle's fifth rounder that the Rams got in the Will Witherspoon trade last year, so we are dropping about 25 spots

According to the chart, we gave up #135 & #211 worth a total of 46.5 point & received #'s 163 &208 worth 36.4 points.
Net is 10.1 points, equal to a 6th round comp. Sounds like a good deal.

I love this trade. The guy is under 30 year old. We don't have very many of those on our team!

Phillip Daniels, Antoine Holmes, Greg Peterson, Kedric Golston, Albert Haynesworth, Anthony Montgomery, Anthony Bryant, Howard Green, Maake Keomatu, and Adam Carricker on the DL with Jackson, Jarmon, Alexander and Carter all listed as LB in the new scheme but have NFL game time on the D line. Maybe they will go all OL with the few picks they have.

man! I hope they find a way to get some OL in here
I guess we only have to remember how bad the O line was and that while we all want the team to be a lot better, and now, if not sooner - we all knew it was going to take time to get this franchise back and it will most likely be the end of 2011 (IF there is any NFL games in 2011) before we see a consistently competitive product on the field
this is the "now generation" and instant gratification is the norm
bot - I know Carriker has not been great for the Rams but it still looks like a good trade for the Redskins

SO EASY to see there are really only 4 starting caliber DL's on the roster for a 3-4 and a couple decent backups. If Haynesworth is traded you can say there are really only 3 quality starting caliber DL's. Daniels, Keomatu and Carriker. Considering all three of these have had multiple injury issues, I would say we may need to add more DL's before camp, especially if Haynesworth is traded.
There are a couple decent O-lineman available out there (Barron/J. Brown among others), but not for this low a price. After the draft, when June cuts happen, a couple of top name O-linemen may come available on wiavers. Keep your eyes peeled for Alan Faneca to be waived by the Jets.

I thought that there were no June 1 cuts this year

From the Rams point of view, they were considering releasing him anyway and they figure they moved their 5th round pick up 28 spots which is almost a whole round... My question is, it looks like our 3rd round pick this year, Jeremy Jarmon, is becoming less and less of a potential factor in this defense... he's just not linebacker material and made some real strides in short time at DE last year...

They could use him like a DE in the 3/4. Here's the other thing though, we're not going to be a full time 3/4 team anyways. We're running a hybrid version of it and no one will know how it will be ran until the first couple of games.
If you want to see how it may look, check out the UFL team that Hasslett coached last year. There may be some hints there.

I think there will be plenty of cuts throughout the offseason, there has to be especially in the weeks after the draft and teams first mini-camps. There probably will be no need for the large influx on June 1, but we will have new linemen that come available.

Haslett ran a 4-3 with the esteemed Florida Huskers, as he did in STL before that. But I think Shanahan and Haslett may have had discussions about coaching together long before 2010 rolled around. They seemed to be on the same page from the beginning. Notice that even before hiring Haslett, Shanahan was hinting at possibly introducing the 3-4 in Washington. Not replace the 4-3 necessarily, just bring some 3-4 into the fold.
Depending on what happens with McIntosh, Carter and the draft, we may see Orakpo at one OLB spot and some combination of Carter/Jarmon/Alexander at the other OLB spot. Other 3-4 teams have done this. You could say there is a small trend developing where the 3-4 is making front sevens much bigger than the traditional 4-3 did. Three 300+ DL, two 260# OLB's and one or two 245+# ILB's makes a bigger front seven than most any 4-3 in the league.
But you use those OLB's in multiple looks (Orakpo is perfect for this already). So i suspect haslett will see who out of Alexander, Carter, Jarmon and Wilson can excel opposite Orakpo. They may trade Carter and/or McIntosh. They may move McIntosh inside. But I expect to see a 260-275# OLB opposite Orakpo, at least on some downs.
Jarmon could go either way. He might have the frame to bulk up to 290-295 and play end. Or they might ask him to slim down to 270 or so. I don't know enough about his skills to guess whether he has more upside in speed/athleticism or strength/size.

I'd say without Big Al it's 2. Carriker hasn't been a full-time starter since 2007. He lost his starting job in 2008. There is some potential there, but it's way too early to say that he is a quality starter. That's why I don't expect Big Al to get traded. We just dont have the people to make up for it.

To make this work, you'd better have a very skilled and very fast set of DB's behind them...

Carriker is a good player who can fill in for guys like Daniels and our other End. But, we need to keep Fat Albert and play him whereever we need to. He's not a team leader, and I don't think anyone is following his example. We actually need his versatility to do this - especially if we will employ a hybrid version of the 3-4 and 4-3.
