Right now LL needs something to get his game back on. Maybe this is a turn for the better? We still need a good zone coverage safety, but it may have to wait another year. There's always June cuts. Seems like a decent veteran safety is turned loose in June every other year or so.

You mean like the Smeagels did to their DBs right? One of my bosses from up PA is still ticked off at them for doing all that.

as I said - he got run over but IMO he also stopped Jacobs - there are not many, if any, players at FS that would have made as good an effort as Landry did
I just do not see it as completely run over when the RB is on the ground shortly thereafter - I will add that it did not affect Landry adversely and it did not seem to help Jacobs as he showed last year that he's not the RB that many thought he was after this particular play
Putting Landry in the right position and showing him how to utilize his talents is only going to re-inforce how great a safety this guy is

Yea, Landry made the play and I give him credit for doing that.. I mean that's the bottom line, he stopped the play... buuuuut.. he got trucked on that play and that's what we all see. Considering we lost anyways made it worse(r)..LOL

I'm with LPJ. Landry got trucked. It happens. Landry is a powerful hitter, but he got macked on that play. Looking at him now, I don't think it will happen again.
If a guy bucks you over but trips down while stepping on top of you, it still gets filed under the title "JACKED UP" lol

If you put up with someone who has incredibly slow acceleration like Jacobs, you do it because they will and should truck most safeties, if not lb's.

I have no problem with the fact that Jacobs ran over Landry OR that Landry got jacked up on that play - it was a big hit by a very large guy - all I'm pointing out is that there were a number of fans who are anti Landry and they have pointed to that play and made it sound like Jacobs not only ran over Landry but that he just kept on going - they don't acknowledge that Landry was responsible for Jacobs not going any further - no big deal - I just really like this kid and think we have a really good football player
good to see that Haslett seems to like what he's seen of Landry so far as well

With no cap, there won't be any June 1st cuts. THe June 1st cut day kept the player's remaining bonus from excellerating to this year. With no cap, there is NO REASON to wait.

The best part of it was how Jacobs went back to the huddle like it was just another day at the office. If that was Landry laying the hit, he would have stood over the player jawing about it. There were times last year where he got beat on a pass coverage for a 1st down and he would make a routine tackle, then stand over the guy flappin his gums. It was embarassing. Man, if you get beat for a first down, don't embarrass your team like that. Classless.
I'll also say, Landry got trucked by Jacobs partly because he used poor technique. He was trying to take his 215# and bowl over Jacobs' 260+# by driving his shoulder into Jacobs high driving thigh. Not smart. Several problems with this. One, even if he had caught Jacobs off balance, all he would have accomplished is a stalemate bounce where Jacobs probably would have continued running.
If Landry would have attempted to wrap Jacobs, roll and twist his legs out from under him, Jacobs would have gone down. Landry seems obsessed with the knock out punch. Until he starts playing like a safety and using tackling skills, taking proper angles and putting a higher priority on ending the play than making the highlight reel, he will continue to be a disappointment. I hope Haslett takes some time trying to develop him this year.

me too - he could be the most valuable player on our defense - Landry's certainly not played to the level he's capable of by a long shot
However, from reports, it does sound like Haslett has seen glimpses of what is available with this player

I hope Haslett takes some time trying to develop him this year.
Whatever you feel about Haslett, he has walked the walk, and knows how to PLAY defense. He'll work to improve the individual players, but won't be buying any excuses.

I agree. Landry is physically more gifted than most strong safeties in the league. His size, speed, and strength are freakish. But, when you're going 100mph in the wrong direction it really doesn't make a difference.
Hopefully he can put on some Troy Polamalu footage and get his head to catch up to his body.
