The Clausen debate has caused two of our writers to clash more than ever and even effected their friendship. One hates Clausen and wouldn't waste a first round pick on him even late in the first round. The other thinks St. Louis should take him #1 overall.
He may be one of the most debated prospects in recent memory because of his bad attitude/cockiness, lack-luster performance during his first 2 seasons, lack of winning, but yet has all the physical tools to succeed.

I hope so. For his sake and for the team who drafts him.

You nailed this one. We're already two months into the off season and they haven't won a super bowl yet or even taken us to the playoffs. What a disaster this regime is, it's time for a change...
I'll try to be patient, as I implied. What I refuse to do is be impressed by Allen and Shany before they've done anything. Most of the posters here are like little girls swooning and giggling over rock stars. I don't need to be in that claque.
It's the rock star thing that makes me think these guys know what they're doing. They haven't signed any rock star types, that alone is more than doing nothing.
I've seen post about the new regime doing nothing. They haven't signed a high-priced "anything" since arriving. "the Danny" did come out and say he didn't pay a whole lot of money for a really big desk to put in a office he doesn't have.
But you're right, they haven't made anyone the highest paid anything all month.
The voluntary conditioning program just started two weeks ago, and there's panic because the coach and GM have done nothing to make a guy volunteer to do something he says he doing anyway just not at Redskins Park. He didn't say it on twitter, send a e-mail, pass it on threw a agent, he didn't even do it old school by sending a text or actually making a call. He told them face to face on the first day of the VCP. They reworked the deal that that Vinny gave him last year and converted the money that would have forced him to be there for OTAs into signing bonus money. So lets see what happens IF he doesn't show up for workouts when it's not voluntary. His new deal does pay him more this year than Pepper's will get but it tied most of last years spending spree to this year and not the 5-6 years that Vinny had them committed to.
Randle El, Smoot, Cartwright, Mason, Slotnitsky, or Eddie Williams why they were cut right before the market opened and they did nothing with the $13.2 million tjhat was saved by doing so.
They brought in non big names so they get no credit for bringing them in.
Larry Johnson cost them $1.675 million less than what Betts was on the books for in 2010 and Johnson actually will be a change of pace back with CP. Hicks cost them $4.810 million less than what Randy Thomas would have cost and is four years younger, Kemoeatu cost them $1.161 million less and is 2 years younger than Griffin. None of that sounds like much but when you look at them getting 7 seven years younger at QB by signing Rex for $2.690 million less and cutting Collins they saved another $10.3 million while doing nothing.
That's a lot of nothing for a group that just took over a team coming off their worst year in a decade and a half...
You should be in full panic right now...
Somebody shaved 32 years of age off the oldest roster in the NFL last year, signed seven players (including a TE, punter and LS).
Have players that never workout working out, most at Redskins Park, and those that are there are actually getting guidance and doing the work.
They freed up future cap space (more than $20 million) for when the Salary cap comes back.
On top of all of that
They $24.3 million more than they had when they started doing nothing.
Cleaning up the payroll on a Cap strapped team when there is no cap isn't called doing nothing, it's called preparing for a future cap and getting into better position to spend when the market has more meat on it.
Cutting highly paid, low producing players on your roster isn't doing nothing... it's getting younger and spending wisely.
Pulling prorated money forward instead of pushing it back to future years isn't doing nothing it's what good teams do so they can operate un-hindered in the future.
If I'm wrong I can't wait to see what they are going to do.

There is a very good article about Clausen on the following web site and it may cause some of you to change your thoughts on him as our QB..

I think the biggest knock on Clausen is that Vinny Cerrato loves him.

The best way to avoid Vinnie's mistakes isn't to contradict his opinion, but to ignore it.

Exactly. As soon as I read that in the Post today, I thought the same thing. Vinny Cerrato's approval is a kiss of death.

I really think that Allen and Shanahan are going to take whomever they like and if they think that Claussen is going to become a really good QB they will take him - even if both Cerrato and Snyder think that is a good idea too
these guys have a plan and none of it involves any advice or thoughts from the Cerrato and Snyder method of player acquisition

Bang on. In the end, you will never succeed by doing what other people think you should. You succeed by doing what you think you should. That doesn't mean you don't consider any and all opinions. But the only thing that's certain is that if they do otherwise then this, they will fail.

No, you just photoshop someone else's head onto a body inside a completely different picture and Voila. Instant joke. I give this picture about a 1% chance of being authentic.

I think it might show Cerrato's limits to talent evaluation that he alsways has a soft spot for Notre Dame players. If you're going to be good as a GM or Scout, you have to throw out those favoritisms completely.

Guess we disagree... the shadows and light angles on the torso and face match. I give it 80%
of course, they probably don't have a lot to do with their time up at the Michigan State Visual Arts program...

I actually think that Todd McShay's approval is the kiss of death. But then if Todd McShay is all over your jock, then that means you are already a loser.
Clausen is likely the most NFL ready in this class, he's actually really incredible. He receives far too much hate, and if he was from USC he'd be Mark Sanchez. Oh well.
At the four position if Okung is there you take him and you don't even look at anyone else I think. That is a ten year investment, totally worth it.
If he is gone you are weighing the other OTs who aren't near as good as Okung versus Clausen. Bruce Campbell and Bryan Bulaga with the #4? I'm not sure. They are top 15s or top 10s, four may be a reach.

That's perfect... 'cause Sanchez got about as much love here last year. There was cheering here when the Jets took him!
I think that folks know that Clausen has talent... I thing we also think he's a major reach at 4, and would be a huge gamble there. The Redskins are not in a position that they can gamble with that pick.
If Okung is gone, and the Rams take whom everyone expects them to take, I think the Redskins will attempt to trade down. If unsuccessful, I would not be surprised to see the Redskins take the highest ranked player on their board, regardless of position. I suspect that would be either the remaining DT (probably McCoy) or Berry... but they could also go Bulaga.

I'm totally with you on Clausen, but for some godforsaken reason, Kiper has Clausen actually ranked as a better QB prospect than Bradford.
I think Mel finally went off the deep end.

Berry is one of the best players in this draft, Safety might be a bit of a reach at #4 for a GM, but with Shanny making the calls there is some safety. The old Redskins days seem to be over. I'd like to say you trade down to get a better price on an offensive lineman, but I don't know how far down you can go and still get the same quality. O-line is pretty deep early on in this pool, so it doesn't drop of like a cliff, but it certainly drops in steps, you have like Okung, then a step down is the next couple, then another step, etc. But ppl need linemen, and the value is good because they are on your roster for so long, it is worth the money. second to QB, O-line should be the most important.

Fair point, you could be right! Honestly if Shanahan wants Clausen, I won't have a problem with it.
I'm sure the honeymoon will end at some point, but just knowing Snyder/Cerrato aren't in control of our draft board fills me with optimism.
