why? It's not like Rex is the future of this team... this team still needs a franchise QB...
He was NOT brought in to fullfill that role. He is a BACKUP. He is someone who can come in a keep the offense moving in case of injury. He can TEACH. He was NOT brought here to be the face of the offense.
That being said, if you view him for what he IS, there's no room for disappointment.
I wasn't insinuating that he was brought here to be the face of the offense... I was simply stating that I don't think this changes the draft plans from whatever they were before the signing... and please, as others have mentioned, you cannot count on him to TEACH anyone, or expect him to MOVE the offense... if that is what you are expecting of him, I believe you will be disappointed...

You have no idea what the guy is capable of. You're making it sound as if I'm stating he's the master architect of this offense or something. He's been in the offense for a year, he can simply be a helpful guide at times for the other QB's. Let's be real here for a second.

So just to guess next season
Campbell is the starter
Grossman is the back-up
Bradford/Clausen third string?

I disagree. I think that this signing and Shanahan's comments actually make it more likely that they will go with a qb in either the first or second round. You don't bring in a scrub like Grossman and start talking about "competition" if you have any real faith in your starting qb.

hmm, let's see, career stats...
CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
524 971 6197 54.0 6.38 62 33 36 58 69.5
yep, that pretty much sums it up, I think it is known what he is capable of... the Bears reached the SB because of their D, NOTHING to do with Grossman at QB... I never said that your belief was he is the master architect, but you said he can TEACH and keep the offense MOVING, both of which I highly doubt... so, being in an offense for a year means you can teach that offense? First you stated he can TEACH the offense, but in your second post, you have already lowered your expectations to "being a
helpful guide at times for the other QB's" which is more realistic than teaching the offense... and I agree, the other QB's can watch what he does, and to be successful, do the EXACT opposite, which I guess is like being a guide...

Since Brunell was benched, JC has had ZERO competition. Even when Todd came in and did well for a few games, JC still had no competition in camp the next year.
Maybe Shanahan thinks a competition will make or break JC...I think it's a win/win. Eitehr he shapes up or he ships out.

Right, but the fact that Shanahan thinks that JC needs competition says a lot about how Shanahan views JC.

Shanahan is saying all the things he needs to say in hopes of trading JC, if it doesn't work Campbell won't feel like he did last year after Vinny tried to dump him off on someone else

How does this signing give JC some competiton? It may give Colt some competion for the 2nd or 3rd QB spot, but he certainly won't compete with JC.
I don't think JC is a very good QB, but he is good enough where Rex isn't going to push him!
But hey... at least he is slightly better than Simms!

This is the one move I dont like so far. Other then that I like all the aquisitions Allen and Shanahan have made thus far. Grossman is just a turnover machine. Cant say I like this at all. Grossman singlehandedly lost that SuperBowl.

On a day the Redskins locked up one quarterback, they're apparently preparing to work out another. The Redskins are one of five teams that have scheduled individual workouts with draft prospect Tim Tebow, according to the Sporting News.
The Redskins hold the draft's No. 37 pick, which could put them in prime position to select Tebow in the second round, if they choose. Working out for scouts and coaches Wednesday, Tebow unveiled a new throwing motion intended to erase concerns about his poor mechanics.
Much of the pre-draft speculation has focused on the Redskins possibly drafting a quarterback with their first-round pick, the draft's No. 4 overall. But with a major need at the left tackle position and with the increasing likelihood that Sam Bradford will be chosen by the St. Louis Rams with the draft's first pick, it's certainly possible that
Washington passes on a quarterback in the first round and waits until the second or later. The team signed Rex Grossman to a one-year contract early Wednesday, and Grossman is expected to compete for the team's backup job.

Isn't there one factor that I'm surprised no one else has mentioned yet? He's another Florida QB that played for the
Old Ball Coach! Yikes!!! That scares me to death just based on that. Haven't we seen how that worked out before? Not excited over this signing at all.

Unless you have Peyton, Drew, Phillip,

Tom, you should always have competition. It
should have all parties competing just a little harder, and I don't see any difference in this situation. JC's not blowing people away, so he has not solidfied his position.
Plus, sexy Rexy played under Kyle last year, so he can help implement the system.

He's still with the team my friend, he hasn't been released (yet). So I guess it looks like this from my seat. JC- starter this season, Rex- Help install Kyle's offense, Colt- Probably dropped and replaced by whoever we draft (most likely Tony Pike cause that's who I want but I'm ok with whoever else we draft as long as its not the 1st flippin round)
