First of all, as much as people are down on Santana for lack of effort and heart (including myself), he still has been our best WR year in and year out, so that's an exaggeration.

Second, many (including myself) would argue that ey gets a lot of touches being the "safety valve" for JC since JC doesn't do well going down field. Is it coincidence that ey becomes a Pro Bowler when JC gets installed and the offense becomes terrible?

Last, he is a good player (despite how you interpret my following comments), but not a perennial lock as a Pro Bowl selection. He's a good WR , an average pass blocker, and not a great run blocker. He is overrated (yes, he is overrated) because of his popularity due to his personality. These are the opportunities to try to get something more in need and upgrade at other more important positions. If no one bites, perhaps the rest of the league doesn't think he's as good as some of our fans do.

Fred has not proven anything yet, but he does seem like a viable option. Perhaps he looked really good this year because JC likes safety valves. There are no sure things in life, but trading away ey seems like a calculated risk that good teams take.

Also, when watching Davis last year, I felt like I was watching a superstar develop. True, ey is a star and has been, and will be. But I think Davis may become a superstar.

Check the stats bro. He's led the skins in receptions in '06-'08, and was 2nd in receptions his rookie year('05). He's been second in yardage EVERY year he played 16 games (which is why '09 stats I didn't reference). You don't trade away your #1/#2 receiver. You work with what you got an improve around him.

Fred looks good so far, but a good TE can be an integral part of your offense, and Fred needs to keep improving.
