No I believe Sean had always played FS. Clarck may have played in the first few games as a free safety but that was when Sean was a rookie and Gibbs hadn't put him in yet.

I still remember Sean's comment before he played.

reporter: "Sean, when do you see yourself getting into the game"
Sean: "When coach Gibbs is ready to pull the trigger"

Great answer!

One could argue that Laron Landry cost us 9 more points than Suisham did. (12-3). Shouldn't Landry, at least, be benched, then?

Countertrey wrote:Landry does not accept accountability for the errors. Think about that. What he is telling us... what he is telling the coaches... is "my play is fine. There is no need for me to change anything. If I see that move again, I will try to jump it again. That is how I play. I'm not changing." There is certainly an element of coaching failure in this, but far more of this is related to player arrogance. The fault of coaching is in permitting him to continue to play the position, despite his refusal to learn to play it well.

Laron Landry has the physical skills to be an exceptional FS... just as we already know that he has what it takes to be an exceptional SS. The problem is, he has no intention of becoming an exceptional FS, he has no intention of making the mindset adjustments that would be required... he has no intention of developing and enhancing the skills that are called for. This is sounding very much like a player who is not motivated by "team" needs... but by "me" needs.

Coaching and the FO need to make a decision... either he is a SS... or he needs to play elsewhere.

And let's just keep this in mind in case he does get shipped out of town and decides to dedicate himself so we're not forced to contend with the myth of "the Redskins always misused him" or "the Redskins held him back."

It's not like Landry's known for taking great angles and not missing tackles. If he's going to be moved into the rotation at SS, it won't be as starter.

I don't think Landry has ever been the same since he got run over (nice version) by Brandon Jacobs.

:D atx, he's still trying to erase that defining play by putting someone's lights out. The way he came at Brees for the "sack" was pretty funny, like human bowling lol

^^ very very true.

I was thinking if he had hit Brees like he wanted to we would have gotten a flag. Kinda the way the game was going.

Yeah, and he was a hair short of whiffing instead of laying the hit while wrapping up. If he was smart, which I beginning to wonder if there is a brain there at all, he would have wrapped Brees and doing that would have made the hit harder.

He's an immature jacka-- that is only concerned about him. And if he's not sat down like Carlos was, then somebody needs to be fired.

Ifs almosts, wtfever. He ALMOST whiffed, but he didn't. Campbell ALMOST won the game, but he didn't. Suisham ALMOST made that chip shot, but he didn't. We ALMOST beat the Saints, but we didn't.

Live in THIS reality, not the reality of ALMOSTs, IFs, and PROBABLYs.

We will agree to disagree.

Anybody can play FS but that is different than being the BEST player you can at your natural position.

LL is a SS.

The same situation repeats oitself with Orakpo. You can waste him at LB. He is a natural DE.

Go on, keep on playing players outside of their BEST positions.

Completely disagree. Landry is a safety, and as mentioned, playing the Tampa 2, both safeties have similar responsibilities regardless of there "designation". Secondly, with Landry's tendencies for very poor tackling, flailing his body at and often whiffing on tackles, shows that his problems are fundamental discipline and technique, which applies to all positions in the secondary. Whether you're a corner or a safety, you make plays on the ball, not biting on receivers footwork. You jump a rout only when you have help over the top ... in this case ... Landry IS the help over the top, and cannot bite on and jump routs. PERIOD.

He's the most overrated player on the team, and has cost this team a few games .... can't remember him ever winning one for us though.

Good teams don't have a player who wins games, they have players who play together - good players are easy to find, the NFL is loaded with very talented players - finding players who make each other better while executing the defensive or offensive game plan is priceless

Landry is one of the best safeties in the NFL at this time and needs better discipline and better coaching - be a shame to see him become the player he can be in another uniform but I doubt anyone connected to this franchise is as stupid as that ... and then again

Didn't Landry intercept the ball in the red zone one year againsed the Eagles that closed the game out for us? Not trying to argue here, just pointing out that he has closed out a game before.
