Here is what Bethard said:
- He isn't coming back to Washington. He's retired w/ grandkids, etc
- Difference when they were there: Everyone is on the same page.
- When things are bad in Washington, they are 1000 x's harder than in other cities.
- JKC considered bringing back Coach Allen when the Skins went 0-5 in Gibbs 1.0.
- JKC left decisions up to team, etc
- Has not spoke with Snyder in a while.
- If Danny came to Bethard for advice, he would decline to offer anything. Thinks that it wouldn't be his field b/c he has been out of it for a while.
- You have a feel on how NFL teams work: He would use NE and Denver as an example where the HC and GM work hand in hand. Coaches were involved with personnel and HC and position coaches involved with decisions on FA's and draft picks. Pat's have a great working relationship with GM but that type of structure works. It's hard for someone to be the one voice and when coaches say they want ultimate control is too much. Scouts see everything. More than coaches so to be able to get those depts. to work together is tough.
- Rumor about Gibbs 3.0: Thinks Joe has been successful at everything he's done. He has a talent for that. He could work with everyone and not be a meddler and do that they were brought in to do. Thinks Gibbs' personality who could make it work and that model can work if you get the right people in there to do the job.
- Bethard agree's the the owner more or less needs to take a step back and let a football mind run the show.
- He isn't going to come back b/c he loves mountain biking and surfing.
- He still watches the Redskins often and said it was the best part of is professional career.

He's the only one that Dan will allow to make any decisions, though.

As the Washington Redskins continue to quickly unravel, the man who delivered the team's only three Super Bowl trophies could soon be coming back.
Again.
There's a rumor making the rounds that two-time former head coach Joe Gibbs could be returning in a role similar to the one occupied by Bill Parcells in Miami. Gibbs would be responsible for hiring a G.M. and a head coach, and otherwise stabilizing the franchise without grinding away as a head coach.
We reported earlier this month that owner Daniel Snyder still consults with Gibbs, and that the two men had dinner in Charlotte the night before the Redskins' loss to the Panthers.
For now, it's just a rumor. And it possibly flows from the fact that it makes a lot of sense.
Then again, the fact that it makes so much sense probably means it won't happen.

Gibbs has allegedly never fired anyone before. Do you want the president of the team to be kind of soft?
On the other hand, Joe Gibbs is a good judge of talent for coaches. He's a smart man and people like to work for him. If he was the president of the team and could hire his own coach and general manager that would be a dream scenario.

That is a horrible, horrible idea. Bobby Beathard had a great run but he's retired, with grandkids and the game has probably past him by.

It would make perfect sense. Dungy wants to be an activist in this stage of life, wants to play in lobbying for his causes, and what better place to do it then in DC. This would bring a positive aura back to the team. Hell you could do it with Gibbs too, but I think he's too old.

And this is your expert opinion based on what exactly? The man built teams in the 1960's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. KC, Miami, Washington, and San Diego. There isn't a man alive that can match his resume, nor his ability to judge talent.
You think he's forgotten how to judge football talent? You think 4 decades is a good run ... but ... ?
You'd argue with a free meal.

The problem is, Dungy has a very similar, FAMILY centered value system to the one Gibbs has. He's keeping himself busy with family, and doing consultations and in public service. Why would he commit to this disaster?
