I would say that he should share the most blame. His mistake gave up 7 points (maybe more) and the diff in the game was 6.

Oh my god! They lost in week one, on the road, to a significantly deeper and more talented team. 0-16! Look out Lions! We're comin for your record!

Basically. I mean, if we'd only had a poised veteran quarterback like Carson Palmer or Jay Cutler or Kurt Warner or Jake Delhomme or David Garrard or Marc Bulger, who knows what our ceiling could be?!

OH WAIT

I have to ask a few questions. This is not a Chicken Little moment. I'm not writing the season off after one game. I'm just asking a few questions.

1. Is Jim Zorn in over his head????

2. Does he not have the ability to see things on the field and make the adjustments?

3. Is the time running out on this current group of players to get to the Super Bowl?

4. What happens or should happen if by this time October, we have a losing record?

5. Is it a mistake that we are not putting Orakpo next to Haynesworth on the D-Line and trying to make him into a LB?

Once again, I'm not pushing the panic button, just asking questions. Your thoughts???

Hi roybus. This post fits pretty neatly into a current discussion in Hogwash. Merging there. . .

As for number 5 I would say yes. Orakpo looked extremely slow and undecisive at the LB position. I'd much rather see him wreaking havoc every down from the DE position. I'd actually prefer they left him @ DE premanantly and started a guy like Chris Wilson @ LB.

To borrow a phrase from the Kery/Edwards campaign in '04:

"MORE OF THE SAME."

The Skins looked like they picked up exactly where they left off in '08.

Can you really blame those of us who think the team should have shown SOME signs of life on opening day?

That was downright awful, all around.

My early opinion, this is not a playoff team, JC is not the right QB for this offense, and Zorn is over his head for the second straight year.

Let's give the man time to adjust to the speed of the game (in real games) at a new position before we start doubting the move. He may have been a little lost with the speed, but damn, it's not an overnite position. Blache (although I doubt his week 1 game plan) is a pretty good D coordinator. Let's give his ideas a chance to blossom.

You said it. I was tempted to hit the panic button myself, but I remembered - it's ONE game. Sure, it was a loss, but it was against a good team, and was closer than last year. Some people may be headed for the lifeboats, but it's far too early to abandon ship just yet.

How quickly everybody forgets that the Giants are a real good team and they were at home. As bad as they played it was a one touchdown game. The positives are that the defense had a couple of takeaways better than last year and when it comes time to stop somebody in the redzone, we can. Lets face it we are a team that cannot come from behind and we cannot give them some easy oppurtunites like the fumble for a touchdown. We have to limit our turnovers and take advantage of good field position. It is only one game!!!!

Are you kidding me! ARE has been FANTASTIC on every other option platy he has ran since coming to the Skins (and before). This was the first negative play he has had in the option play.

I would run it every game, but after some end arounds or fake end arounds!

One play and people make idiotic post like that.

For all of the so called "fans" out their running around like chicken little. The Sky is not falling. The "sky" looks just like what the weather man said it would.

Vegas had the line some where around 6.5 and they lost by 6. So the team did a tiny bit better than expected.

DID ANYONE REALLY EXPECT A DIFFERENT RESULT!!!!!!

The game went exactly how I expected it to go:

- ARE played much better than the "bum" fans make him out to be.
- Carlos "Hands of Stone" Rogers dropped another pick six and he covered like the very good cover corner he is.
- The OL protected JC much better than "fans" expected.
- Kelly was invisible! ARE is still the second best WR on the team.
- The G-strings held CP in check
- JC is who we thought he was. A guy that makes some good throws, but is missing something (located between his ears). Almost all of his problems are related to him making slow decisions or bad decisions, but mostly just taking too long to figure out what he is going to do. Just grip it and rip it.
- Fat Albert is out of shape, but had a very good game.

Some things that I didn't expect:
- I thought CP would be a bit more productive
- Surprised Moss was a non-factor (I couldn't tell if they were rotating coverage to him to take him out of the game and that is what opened up things for ARE)
- Maybe I was expecting too much from a rookie, but I expected more from Orakpo.
- The D had a pretty poor day, not bad, but just not good! They SUCKED on third and long!

The G-strings took Moss out of the game by jamming him at the line. I don't understand why we never did that to their receivers, especially on third downs.
This is where it pays to have a big, physical CB like Springs, and use our new bigger WRs.

How did we do it the other 8 games then?

The only thing that really concerned me in this game was the fact that Zorn seemed hesitant to throw the ball on a depleated Giant secondary. That either means he has no confidence in Campbell, or he has no idea how to call plays, both of which don't bode well as the season goes on. Come back next week and get to 1-1 and put this one behind us.

I agree!..I thought by him being a former QB, he would want to throw it more, or atleast to try something. Are we going to wait for 3 minutes in the 4TH to start opening up the offense?

We didn't. Blache prefers to play his CBs 10 yards back off the LOS. I'm just saying it would be nice if we could jam a receiver at the line for a change.

Who put this loss "completely on Campbell?" I haven't seen a single person say that. Not one. We can't criticize his play unless it's completely his fault? I'm calling you out for this stupid statement, who are you rebutting? Show me a quote that says it's "completely" Campbell's fault from anyone.

Oh PLEEEAASE forgive me. The very first post here was "Zorn and Campbell should be out of here AND I'm all for Collins starting the remainder of the season."

My apologies. The poster didn't actually put the loss completely on Campbell. He put it on Campbell and Zorn.

Man, I can't disagree with any of this really. I was thinking the same thing watching the game on Sunday. Looked pretty much like the exact same team from last December.

And as much as I've been willing to defend Campbell, I agree that he still hasn't proven he is the right QB for this offense. Its a legit argument. I just don't see any point in turning to Collins or whatever. They need to play JC for the next six weeks and answer this question once and for all. He either gets the job done, or he doesn't.

btw Did anybody listen to Lavar on 106.7 yesterday afternoon? First time I've caught him, and he was highly entertaining. He was extremely defensive of Campbell and pretty critical of the coaches. I thought one good point he made was on the Osi strip/fumble. He was going crazy that anybody would call a 7 step drop with guys like Osi and Justin Tuck coming at the QB. Basically said he thought calls like that set the QB up to fail. Also angry that they weren't taking any shots at intermediate passes the way the Giants did very well.

Not sure how true that is, but he was pretty passionate about it.

Actually, he didn't say that it was "completely," i.e., "only" JC and Zorn either. He said they suck. I agree with him to a degree. JC was disappointing and I find Zorn's play calling at times puzzling. But I disagree with sitting JC and firing Zorn. But the fact is no matter how many times you read it and no matter how much he or any of the rest of us may criticize them, "completely" means it's the only factor and no one I've seen has said that. That you make up that conclusion weakens your point. Just address the opinions of JC and Zorn that are said, don't make up conclusions that aren't.

They did take intermediate shots. And when they did, the seemed to work well. Not sure why we didn't do it more.
