I agree he played well covering kicks.

I'm thrilled that Salisbury U. Has a player on the Redskins. Westbrook is making all Salisbury grads happy. :D

I agree. I know 5th round draft picks aren't always going to make the roster or even make an impact but Glenn was a stupid waste of a pick from the beginning. I'm kind of surprised we kept 4 RB's but we will see how it works out.

Reed is shocking me as i watch the jax game, he still can't defend tall recievers but his tackling has improved, he's obviously stronger. I'm excited to see Mason on the goal line during the year, he's just so small and quick he can punch it in with ease.

so, you're saying a small back is a good thing, inside the 5? I wonder why so many feel that this is a place that you need a big back OR, is this just making the best case for the group of RBs we have?

Zorn is not giving the ball to Mason inside the 5 when he has Portis - I like Mason, but I don't think that they kept him for what he might provide inside the 5 is all I'm sayin -I think he offers more potential than that

DID CB TRYON MAKE THE TEAM. SAW ANOTHER SITE WHERE IS GOT CUT?
I HOPE WE ARE NOT RELYING ON HIM TO BE OUR 6TH BACK.

Yes, he made the team, but there is no need to shout. Nor is it necessary to make an entirely new thread about a player making the team, when there is already a final cuts thread. What other site says he got cut? And what do you mean by 6th back? He is one of six CBs we kept.

Not only have we upgraded the talent on our team but with these cuts we have become a really young team...versus years past. Examples...

Jansen -- LDEs were running by this guy, it was sad to see. Heyer had replaced him to start last year anyway. Gained a lot of years.
Springs -- played great for 8 games, hurt the other 8. Barnes & Westbrook no where as good but we gained a ton of years and 16 games.
Kendall -- was totally shot at end of year. Dockery replaces him, gain a bunch of years.
Thrash -- loved this guy. Mitchell replaces him. We lose on STs but gain a possible future starter and lots of years.
Marcus Washington -- like Jansen, had a lost lots of steps. Orakpo takes his spot, nothing more to say here.
Khari Campbell -- Solid STs guy but Henson will take that spot and we gain a lot of years.
Demetric Evans & Jason Taylor -- We traded them for Daniels and Wynn. Not younger but an upgrade.
Our Punter (who was it??) -- This is where we added an older guy Hunter Smith is older but looks great as punter and holder. (hope we didn't wear him out in preseason.

After Cuts yesterday:
20 have 2 years experience or less 40% of roster
12 have 3-5 years experience 20%
10 have 6-8 years exp. (approx 30 years old or younger) 20%
11 have 9 or more years exp. 20%

A real nice mix and a really young team. Of the 11 "old" (over 30 years old) guys:

Albright -- he can do this job until he's 50! Can replace him with a FA or late pick.
Smith -- He's still capable of punting for a few years. Replace with FA or late pick.
Yoder -- Blocking only Tight Ends are available.
Wynn -- A one year roster spot.
Daniels -- Will man this until Jarmon is ready to play.
Collins -- Colt? Not so sure about that.... We may need a starter and backup if JC stinks it up or leaves for more $'s.
Griffin -- Hopefully, Golstin or Montgomery can take his place in a year or two.
Sellers -- Not sure Eddie Wms is his replacement. FBs are not hard that hard to find.

and...the 3 hardest to replace (need big $'s or high picks):
Thomas -- We need to find a Right Guard in the second round next year.
Fletcher -- I hear folks saying Blades will replace him, I'm not sure he's a starter.
Samuels -- We don't have anyone on our team who can take his job full time, we need to use our first rounder on a LT, even it means trading up to get it.

Casey Rabach is also 30+.

Yeah, I know, using years of experience isn't exact to age. Rabach has less than 9 YOE, so I didn't deal with him.

Hmmm....that group of linebackers is mighty thin looking to me. Especially when the starting strongside isn't actually a linebacker, and his supposed back-up is also converting from end. That group worries me.

The wide receivers, on the other hand, look great (on paper). I really hope this is the year that we actually threaten people down the field, AND consistently move the chains with some reliable hands on third down.

Ten offensive lineman doesn't give you any more depth than nine if the extra man can't play. Yes, the depth there is younger, but I've got no confidence in any of the reserves yet.

I'm still not sure what Mason actually gives to the team if he isn't a big special teams player. From what I've read, he isn't big, and he isn't fast enough to be much of a change up. I'm not saying he isn't good enough, but I just dont know what his role is?

The defensive line obviously looks great, even ignoring the fact that their second best player (behind Haynesworth) is actually listed as a linebacker (Orakpo).

I love the safeties, but the corners worry me - if we need six of them, it doesn't say much about our confidence in the fourth and fifth on the depth chart!

Crikey - I sound pessimistic, don't I? I really am not - I actually like a lot of things that have changed on the roster this year. But some of the moves have left me a little puzzled, that's all.

Not really, because you often have three, or even four of them on the field at once, so if an injury happens, you need capable backups. Plus, most of the backups play important roles on STs.

He's just displayed a good, general ability at the tailback position. He holds on to the ball well, hits holes, doesn't go down on first contact, can make a guy miss, etc.

My best guess is that they see him as a valuable tool the moment Portis and/or Betts go down with injury.

I think it's more than that. I think they use him like Betts to spell Portis, not just in case of injury.

True. It's just disappointing that we once again dont have a change of pace back. I love CP but we don't have a single back on the roster that is a threat to break long runs.

I don't think this is necessarily true. We haven't seen enough of Mason with any regularity to see what he's going to do.

He seems to be in the same mold as CP, regardless I'll take him over the tip-toe burgalar.

thats so cool that # 84 may turn out to be the best draft pick... really, i am glad he made the team and saw him alot in the preseason.... Plus we all know that Orakpo will get that honor of best draft pick, as far as the backs a concerned I bet the house that we got it right. I love the fact that the short passing game is going to be there this year... with out a change of pace back the wideouts will need to hold on to those 5 yarders and pick up all they can this year.
