Incorrect order.

the correct order is:

Snyder buys team

10-6 in 1999 with a playoff win

That's right - he came in after the draft and free agency. It was that weird offseason with Cooke making decisions even though he knew he wasn't going to be the owner, and that other guy almost bought the team, but got rejected by the league. I don't remember his name. I also left out the Ricky Williams trade.

I think thats where the generation gap is. In the midst of all the current day bs, you guys can relax and day dream about the glory years. When I think back, I think of...

- Shuler ramming his head into the wall.
- Irvin torching some dude down the left sideline. My dad took the small tv into the living room and worked wonders with the antenna so we could get Fox5 (dc station) from Baltimore.

Mr. "In Gus We Trust" I believe that was ](*,)

Yes, that was Gus Frerotte that head butted the wall and gave himself a concussion. Gus Frerotte aka "In Gus We Trust" aka "The Gus Bus"

I always thought WAY to much was made of that. He scored a go ahead TD, was fired up and head butted a PADDED concrete wall with his helmet on and jammed his neck.

His head was fine. He hit the wall at just the right angle where it caused an injury to his neck. Had he head butted a team mate no one would have said anything.

How about all of those idiots that needlessly dive or do flips into the endzone. They are much more likely to hurt themselves than Gus was. Yet he comes off as a baffoon.

He was a baffoon for injuring himself on a celebration...just like any other player would be labeled as such. You do a flip and succeed, you're cool...you do a flip and land on your neck, you're a baffoon. Didn't think it was that hard to understand.

I am sure if a person wanted to be anal and go through the seasons of each super bowl winner they could find a reason why they shouldn't have won games leading to the super bowl or the superb bowl itself. I'll take a super bowl any way I can get it.

....like winning two Super Bowls during strike-shortened seasons and your scab teams compiling a 3-0 record in 1987.

I think no one remembers the circumstances of how you won....just that you won. Would Yankees fans care any less if their team won it's 27th World Series with a payroll $50M north of their nearest competition?

I don't care if we get to use a 12th player on Offense so that our receivers can finally get open, it still counts as a Super Bowl championship.

I agree to some extent, but I disagree too. If Sean Taylor had hurt himself at the end of the 2005 season when he picked up that fumble against Philly and returned it for a score and then got injured when needlessly dove into the endzone and missed the rest of the game, all would have been forgotten after the playoff win over Tampa.

As a matter of fact I think CP got hurt diving into the endzone on a TD and missed part of the rest of a game. That has been in the last couple of years and of course no one even rembers that, heck I barely do.

The point is. The risk of injury for what Gus did was extremely small. He just was very unlucky. Kids head but lockers in school all of the time and don't get injured. Team mates head butt each other all of the time and don't get hurt. Gus head butted a padded wall with his helmet on. A PADDED WALL. The chance for injury is very small. Figure the odds.

I just don't think someone should be remembered for a fluke!

People rember the headbut, but forget all about Westbrook costing us the game by taking his helmet off.

Sprained his neck, if I remember right.

That's because we all remember Westbrook for something else. See #8, at about 53 seconds in.

That whole ownership change fiasco was the beginning of the end for the Skins. If you remember, we lost Trent Green because Casserly wasn't authorized to spend above $3M/yr because of the ownership limbo and soon was signed by the Rams.

My first years of memory of the Redskins are the latter years of Gibbs I. I don't remember Miami, but I remember Denver.

The days of 28, 81, 44, 38, 7, 86, 85, and THE HOGS.

My earliest Redskins memory was the hiring of Vince Lombardi. But my first memory of actual games doesn't start until '72, with the over-the-hill gang.

I was at that game sitting in the same corner when he did that.

I was there too, my seats were behind the Skins' bench, and we had no idea what happened. I didn't find out until I saw it on SportsCenter.

I'll never forget it. It happened right in front of me. I said to my wife "Oh no! That's a 15 yard penalty." I left the game feeling cheated, and wondering why Gus Frerotte didn't come back after halftime.

No, it was the Rams. Then when he got injured, Kurt Warner stepped in and became a star. Trent left for the Chiefs in 2001.

My first real memories are when we lost to the lowly Raiders in the superbowl. My best friend just happened to be a raiders fan of course.

Most fans were pretty happy we didn't resign Trent for what the Rams gave him because Shuler was still ringing in our ears.

CLL, a championship is a championship. Nobody but someone who hates your team will remember anything other than the fact that you won. Most people don't even realize how 1 or 2 plays in all of the Patriots recent wins could have made them the modern Buffalo Bills.

I will take a superbowl win any frickin way Dan can get it!

It seems funny that this thread with its ridiculous questions and suppositions about the uncapped year has turned into a nostalgia trip. I feel for the Norv generation. They got a taste of the real thing (Gibbs) but it ended up being more like new coke instead of classic coke.
I went to a game at Griffith Stadium as a youngster but I don’t really remember that game.
I remember the game being on a BW TV at my grandmother house in DC where my parents grew up.
The first time I remember a buzz surrounding the Redskins was when Vince L. came to town. Sonny G was great but the team was a loser until that happened. Vince started an upward progression for the team and fan expectations. A few years later George Allen came to town and raised expectations again. They were good but not great with one SB appearance, a loss.
While not great, Allen’s teams were consistently good. Jack Pardee took over after Allen. He was coach of the year his first year and out of the league after his second year (as I remember it, I’m not going to look it up, so sue me if I’m wrong).
In Gibbs first year he went 8-8 but it was completely different then last year’s 8-8. They started 0-5 (or was it 0-7, I’m not going to look it up) and ended up 8-8. In the second half of the season they were blowing teams up at the line of scrimmage. They finished strong, really strong but were not in the playoffs. Every fan who was paying attention knew they we going to be really good in Gibbs second year.
They were.
With Zorn I hope he makes it but I’ve seen the same pattern before. Start off good then falter down the stretch. Didn’t Norv and that coach from Florida also do the same season swan dives?
I’m not sure what is worse, having seen the pinnacle and now having to put up with mediocrity or only knowing mediocrity?
I have a young cat that’s never been outside the house. She sits in the window sill all day and night looking at the outside. She doesn’t seem to have the anguish that my dear departed cat had who knew the outside world but was forced to be inside looking out the window.

Vast difference between those coaches and Zorn. Zorn may or may not be the answer but I believe he can get it done. It is only his second year. Norv is a completely different story. I thought he needed to go, just not the way it happened. If Spurrier wasn't so stubborn and actually had blockers protecting the passer his scheme might have worked. This guy out of all the head coaches the Skins have ever had was the worst ever.

You wouldn't say that if you remembered Mike Nixon.
