Here's what I believe...
Orakpo is a monster. He will have an immediate impact on this team, even if Haynesworth is not on the field. With Haynesworth on the field, other teams are going to need to spend lots of extra resources on game planning the pair. Carter will have a career year. \
The Redskins are in the process of discovering just what this yound man is capable of. As has been pointed out, the responsibilities for the DE are just a little more involved than those of the kicker and the punter... It will not hurt his DE play to spend some time seeing if he can also play the Sam. If he can, this pick just got even better.
Here's what I know...
Orakpo is a monster. He hates Dallas. That's a good place to start.
Can't wait to see him in action.

DT- Haynesworth
DE Daniels, Wynn
OLB's- Orakpo, Carter
MLB's -Fletcher, Mcintosh/Blades
Yeah sort of. DE Daniels, Wynn are old but yeah if they were younger...
Yea, Griffin and Golston could probly play 3-4 DE as well.

On the other hand, if you want an outside linebacker... draft one
I kind of feel like the Reskins are trying to fill two needs with one player, and it scares me that it could slow his development or take away his aggressiveness...
The complexity of the playbook for a Defensive End is right above kickers and punters... It would be nice for a young guy to come in, focus on one thing, and not have to think a whole lot, at least until the game slows down for him...
At Strong Side LB he needs to know his responsibilities, the MLB resposibilities, the DE resposibilities, the strong safety resposibilities... all those change with each formation and each pre-snap movement... for young players that can cause paralysis by analysis, instead of being the aggressive player that was drafted...
I'm not saying he's not good enough to handle it, but I'd like him to get his primary job down before throwing stuff at him...
Of course I thought it was a mistake putting Jason Taylor in a different position than he was used to, but he said it was no big deal... and look how productive he was...
This all sounds good on paper, but once the season starts, injuries will likely determine where and how much Orakpo plays. And that's assuming he lives up to the hype and can deliver enough to warrant the playing time.
If he has been exposed to both SLB and DE some, then he will be more comfortable playing either if Daniels or Rocky or whoever goes down to injury.
So I imagine Blache is saying, let's see what the kid can do now, when it doesn't matter, then base our decisions off of that. If he plays well enough in space to warrant more time at SLB, great. If he's such a beast off the edge that we want him there 100% of the time, great also.

The plan all along was 1st & 2nd Sam...3rd pin the ears back at DE
In a press conf. at the combine Rak said he spoke to the Skins and they laid out that very scenario.
This confirms for me that the Sanchez stuff was a bluff and that the target was Rak all along.
