If the Eagles drafted Cody Glenn they would also be scrutinized.
But of course. Instead, they draft Macklin, a speedy receiver almost in an identical mold of DeSean Jackson, and LeSean McCoy, a 5'10 - 205 lb running back who is quick on the edges and is a good pass catcher out of the backfield... oh right, the exact same type of player they already have in Westbrook. Yet their draft was brilliant. I talked to one on my friends who is a huge Eagles fan and although he thinks Macklin and McCoy are good players, he was disgusted they drafted two players who are both in the same molds as players they already have.
I can't say that its that dumb. You offense is set up to fit a certain type of player. If CP went down, I would love to have a kid built just like him, who possess' the exact same skill set and we could plug him in there without having to change anything.

Well Westbrook will only be on the field 3 or 4 games and the Eagles do have possession guys like Brown and Baskett. They can add Maclin to the mix. The point is they aren't mediocre players with no set position.

I like what they did plus they added Hobbs

Again, I'm not disputing they aren't good players, just that they are very similar to what they already have. As we here fuss about Betts and Portis being too similar, and Betts not being the right type of back to spell Portis, the loss of Buckhalter and the drafting of McCoy is similar in that regard. My friend is an insider for the Eagles, and I can assure there is some major reservations about releasing Buckhalter and not drafting a RB with different skillsets to spell Westbrook. Just saying...

The thing about the RB is that they needed a red zone/change of pace guy for Westbrook. They were scrutinized last year for not being able to bang it in at the goal line. To have someone JUST like Westbrook and not have a banger is the debatable point.

You can find a goal line back anywhere, McCoy is a legit 2nd Rb. You can't have a goal line back subbing for westbrook when he gets hurt every other game.

I was only sayin what I heard on NFLN about McCoy. I've stated many times that I know jack about the draft prospects. The goal line issue is another thing I heard multiple times last year.

Well, they do need a goal line presence. I hope they don't think so.

if I were to call myself an "expert" I'd definitely say this is the look of a man who realized in the last day or so that he's been set up to get fired. No immediate help on offense? I just think he's too smart not to notice

He got his help last year. They'll play this year according to him. He's being set up to succeed. Whether it happens or not is to be determined.

Considering they were 6th in the league in scoring...and they added Weaver in the off-season I'm guessing they aren't too concerned.

lol, I just can't stop grinning about how ridiculous this whole thread is.
Do you realize, you people are legitimately upset... calling for firings over a FIFTH round pick? Even picks they made later in the day in the sixth and seventh rounds. It's hilarious. Don't you have more going on in your life than to get upset about the second day of the NFL draft? You won't even know how good or bad these guys are for about 3 seasons.
And Zorn's going to get fired? The writing's on the wall because the Front Office didn't get his offense an immediate impact player? What should they have done? Trade up for Sanchez? Reach on Oher? Drafted Maclin, Harvin or Brown?
Get a hold of yourselves. You know who you are.

I agree, Chris. While we used our first four picks on defense this year, last year we used our first four picks on offense, which Zorn mentions in his presser.

I don't think it's him that they want to fire. If the team has major O-line problems and all they do is draft D players and settle on a bunch of second stringers to battle it out for the starting RT job...what does that tell you? Throw in the fact that we already had the 4th ranked d in the league to begin with. They have no interest in this QB succeeding.

If you haven't watched the video on Kevin Barnes hit, do so. It reminds me of some of Sean Taylors hits.

Take this for what it's worth....and it's no way an indictment of the Skins draft strategy ('cause I actually like the Orakpo pick a lot), but anybody else notice that we pick a lot of guys who either were suspended or hurt? In fact, besides Orakpo, no other member of our draft class finished the season:
Barnes - fractured shoulder
Glenn - suspended for an undisclosed reason (but we know that it had nothing to do with ticket scalping, thank God)
Henson - suspended - academics
Williams - torn ACL
Add that to Malcolm Kelly with his knee problem that everyone knew about before the draft and the signing of Erasmus James who had a knee problem and it seems we don't take a look at the past health history or being able to stay eligible for games as points of consideration when we make a player transaction.
Did I forget to mention that we just signed a guy who until recently was weighing in at 450 lbs.? Should be interesting to see how these all turn out.

We had a GREAT Draft day 1.
We had a mediocre Draft day 2.
Barnes is the only player that catches my eye as a potential nickel guy -IF- he gets and remains healthy. The rest of our draft is as uncertain they come.
This is GOOD draft AS LONG AS you do not assume that this team is going to be great this season. If you see this Draft as an investment and a contribution towards the future, we are fine.
The fact that we preserved our picks for next year alone is a great relief for me. Those of you who feel that this is a playoffs team for sure this season are sadly mistaken.
We still have a few months to grab some help at LB and OL. I hope those positions are addressed. I am more concerned about the OL of course. Jason is not a fast release QB and he needs all the help he can get.
SkinsJock is right. Our draft was not as good as our opponents' in the NFC East. We only have Orakpo to truly show for it. We are sowing what we planted in previous trades.

We already have a very good nickel back in Smoot. That's what I find perplexing about this pick.

If something happens to any of them we are in trouble. Last year we had a game where safeties had to fill in. Remember? This is good.

Barnes was drafted to be a replacement for Smoot as a 3rd corner after this year, or as a replacement for Rogers should Rogers decide to leave.
It's planning for a need we'll have a year from now. I think it's pretty smart.

I had never thought of it like that, Pulp. Since you brought that to light, the 3nd round CB makes more sense now. Initially, I was baffled why we wouldn't have picked up a tackle instead of the CB.
I knew there was a reason we kept you around!!

Mayock says that the Skins had the worst 2009 draft in our division. Also said that Orakpo is a "boom or bust" guy.....
Whatever dude........

Hard to disagree with that.
