the same line that was part of the 4th overall defense last year... minus Jason Taylor who really didnt do much. Same with Demetric Evans. So i'm not too worried. We still have a draft to get some players we need..

How can you take a step backwards for adding a proven veteran for depth at the league minimum? No one said he was going to start!
We took a step backwards, because we could spend time developing someone younger and that can put pressure on the quarterback. I applaud the fact that he is a proven veteran, but that doesn't help him in reversing his diminished skill set. He is just an old retreaded tire that I don't think will help us very much.
And as stated previoiusly, can be cut if we need his slot. He's vet min one year deal. The sky is not falling.

I never said the sky was falling. The point I was discussing is that we need pass rush help and Wynn is only somewhat serviceable in the run game. I don't care if he is for depth or not. We need good depth not just another warm body on the field. Even if he is cut in training camp (which I don't think will happen) he is potentially taking the place of someone who could come in and really help this team.

It's not a "sky is falling" type move, but what the Skins have done with the DE position this offseason makes very little sense. We let Evans, who played well last season, sign with the 49ers and then went out and signed Wynn, who we cut several years ago because he wasn't effective anymore.

As of now, we
do need warm bodies. If we bring in someone who is better, then Wynn would be cut. I still don't see the problem.

Albert is not going to help Wynn beat the one on one that he already goes up against. He may be decent in the run game, but we need pass rush help. I see this signing as a waste of time quite frankly. Our glaring weakness on defense is the defensive line and their ability to get a pass rush. Albert will help with that, but he also needs a good supporting cast that is able to get somewhat close to the quarterback.
Totally true and a fact we ignore. The whole idea of Albert being able to help other guys get to the QB is out the window if our other guys can't beat their guys one on one, and they can't. We're not going to get the pass rush we expect unless something else is done. I'll say it again-- cutting Jason Taylor was a huge mistake. My nightmare is that it will lead to us drafting a DE rather than an offensive lineman at 13.

We have 62 on roster (including RFA's but not UFA's). The camp limit is 80. We will sign lot's of warm bodies.

As illustrated MANY times, Wynn isn't there to grow roots. He's a rotation guy and a warm body. If we get someone better, he hits the streets. What's so hard to understand about that? HIS ROSTER SPOT IS NOT SET IN STONE!!!

We can find a rotation guy that is a warm body that is 10yrs younger and could possibly put pressure on the opposing QB. With Wynn taking the spot of "another" DE that is a warm body, I don't see any use in this signing. IMO, Wynn isn't really good enough to be in the rotation. He is a DE which means he is supposed to put pressure on the quarterback. He cannot generate pressure of any form. Unfortunately, with our coaching staff being comfortable with and knowing him, that increases the chances of him being on the opening day roster. I would much rather have Daniels resign than Wynn, because he at least is powerful enough to move inside to the DT position. I just do not buy into the fact that "he is a leader" and that is his main purpose for being on the team. If he wants to be a leader with a diminished physical skill set then he needs to join the coaching staff.

There's a point I have not seen you address, which is that this is not necessarily a permanent signing. He's a body now, but he may not even BE a body come OTAs, training camp, or pre-season. This is early off-season moves. We haven't signed him to a 7 year deal with a huge cap hit. He's vet minimum 1 yr deal, which means it's easy to cut him without suffering a cap hit.

I believe my point encompasses the fact that he will be harder to get rid of, because the coaches seem to like him on more of a personal level than what he produces on the football field. Since they seem to like his "experience," it is more likely they could decide to keep him over a guy that shows better burst, but has less experience. I realize the fact that its only a 1 year deal, but he is still taking up roster space and getting all warm and fuzzy with the coaches again. I hope he proves me wrong, but from going by what he has done in the past I don't think that will happen. I want some of the young guys like Rob Jackson and Chris Wilson to get some playing time in the rotation.

..and what proof do you have that they won't? Everything is pure speculation and assumptions from this point. We haven't even come near our roster limit to have to cut down, and now there's already worry about who's getting playing time? There are many more things to be played out before we get to that point.

Ummm... aren't these the same coaches that let him go once before???

And his old defenseive line coach, who just so happens to be the D-Coordinator, helped bring him back. Plus, at the time he was let go, it could have been a GW call.

You are correct and it is speculation, but I can see it as something that logically could play out. He will be here at least through traing camp, but I have a bad feeling he will make the team. If I am correct in my assumption, well, be prepared for Haynesworth's double teams to be nullified by Wynn's inability to beat a 1 on 1 situation.

Considering that we have a worse linebacking core, worse DB's, and one year added to Cornelius, that doesn't make me feel much better.
