Uh, we have seen the contract. He signed it two years ago. Rolling Eyes

In that case, please point to the specific contract language that details how many workouts CP must attend and what amount of money is withheld if he fails to reach the specified number.

I can't link to the contract itself, but it has been widely reported that Clinton has the exact same 75% clause in his contract. Here is an example:
Clinton Portis is the Model of Offseason Conditioning

Why was it so necessary for Jason Taylor to agree to the Redskins' offseason conditioning demands? Well, because Clinton Portis does it. Yes, Clinton Portis, whose entire career has been defined by his by-the-books insistence on showing up for voluntary offseason workout sessions. Clinton Portis, whose 2008 campaign was marked primarily by his demands that all teammates practice regularly, regardless of their various injury concerns. Clinton Portis, who ended that season by promising not to think about football until July.

So, Sarge, why exactly was it necessary for Taylor to commit?

"It's not fair to Clinton," Sarge Cerrato said to Comcast SportsNet yesterday. "Because Clinton's got the same 75 percent [clause], and Clinton lives in Florida too in the offseason, and he comes up [to Ashburn] and makes his 75 percent. So I don't think it's fair to the rest of the team, to Albert Haynesworth--who has it in his contract--to DeAngelo who has it. Dock's got it in his contract, all these guys have it in their contracts, when he's just gonna stay home and not work out. And to me, as you get older, you need to work out and be in a structured environment where you have strength coaches, you have people pushing to get the best."

"People pushing to get the best." Pretty sure that's gonna be the name of Portis's autobiography.

Once again, the Washington Redskins have reworked Clinton Portis’ contract, clearing up cap space and ensuring that he will remain a Redskin for at least three more years. The contract includes a $9.3 million signing bonus in March and a guarantee of at least $15.7 million through 2010. Portis has reworked his contract in each of the last three years, so this is nothing new for the skins.

What is new, however, is that the team seems to be expecting him to participate more in practice and off-season activity. The Washington Post reports that Portis has been notorious for avoiding off-season workouts and unnamed former teammates complained that he was regularly seen goofing off when he does attend. Fortunately there’s signs that he’s been buckling down and working hard this year. Zorn and his people have also indicated that Clinton will no longer receive special privileges that he used to receive, including the ability to take himself out of the game when he felt like he needed to.

Portis has been a mainstay of the offseason workout program since March, keeping to a proper diet and working out in the weight room like never before after spending much of the last two seasons trying to overcome injuries and a tendency to become winded. Some days he has trained with linemen, pushing a sled weighed down by teammates, and he is looking more chiseled. He had been at Redskins Park essentially every working day before last Thursday, when Coach Jim Zorn excused him indefinitely. Zorn said he had no problems with Portis leaving to attend what Zorn said was "a celebration" and has praised Portis's work ethic.

Seems to me the only difference is CP agrees to the workout clause and then doesn’t show up. While JT was just being up front and saying no…he could have just agreed and than not shown up…like CP

I missed where he didn't show up. I saw that the coach let him go, which is not the same thing.

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

 Come on... man  Some of you just kill me with the stuff you post.

Portis WAS there.

Portis DOES have the same 75% workout clause.

<sigh>

But let's pretend for a minute that Portis didn't actually show up today...

DID THE CONTRACT SAY THAT IN ADDITION TO THE 75% PARTICIPATION, DAY #1 WAS MANDATORY???

Or do you fellas here at THN have to be notified which days will be used by Portis and other players for their contractual 25% of off-time?

Portis was there. Some of you need to find something else to whine about.

And further, that article asserting that Portis will miss the workouts was written by Jason La Canfora. Here's to you guys buying what JLC spits out...

Nope..and I was simply stating that. JT could have agreed to the workout clause and than blown off the workout right??

Well as reported on Redsins Nation even the Redskins were thinking CP wasn't going to be there...and again I love how people here rip a source when they have used that very sorce when it has fit their arguments.

Listen, I can assure you that I've NEVER used JLC as a source. Others do and I find it laughable.

Sure... he could have blown off today and 25% of the workouts, because they only wanted him to commit for 75%... to which he refused... remember? Portis agreed to the clause and team commitment, and even showed up on the first day, when in reality, he didn't even have to, because much like Taylor was being offered, he was only asked to attend 75%.

But I guess Portis must of thought that if he didn't show up, it would've given reporters like JLC and some posters on message boards something to whine about...

 That article I posted didn't come from the Washington Post. And further, it didn't come from Jason La Confora. Yes, the WP was mentioned in the article, but the article itself wasn't authored or published by JLC or the Post. And if you actually read the blog, the veracity of the Post's reports could be questioned by Portis' current involvement, meaning the reports were old news based on Portis' new contract that includes the 75% clause. I don't ever quote JLC specifically, so asserting that I only use JLC when it fits an argument is completely off base. I never quote JLC, unless of course I'm making fun of him or establishing an inaccuracy or falsehood in his statements.

Once again, the Washington Redskins have reworked Clinton Portis’ contract, clearing up cap space and ensuring that he will remain a Redskin for at least three more years. The contract includes a $9.3 million signing bonus in March and a guarantee of at least $15.7 million through 2010. Zorn and his people have also indicated that Clinton will no longer receive special privileges that he used to receive, including the ability to take himself out of the game when he felt like he needed to.

At 26, Portis still has time to mature and become an elite back. If he can be a top 10 back while goofing off, one has to wonder if he can break into the top 5 when he buckles down and gets to work. He’s already got the single season record for rushing yards for the team. What else can he accomplish if he puts his mind to it? Perhaps that’s just the homer in me. Perhaps that’s just wishful thinking. But I like that this new regime under Jim Zorn isn’t letting anyone slide. I like that people are buckling down and working hard. We’ll just have to see if it pays off this September when it counts.

What are you talking about? If you're saying JLC covered this topic in an article, then you are correct. But I didn't quote JLC or post anything written by him specifically. I posted a blog from riggosrag.com that WAS NOT authored by JLC. Did you click the link I posted? Sorry dude, my original point was to say that it's unfortunate that some of you get all worked up by another false and baseless report from JLC, and that's why I personally don't quote him.

Perhaps, but I can assure I wasn't intending to quote anything from JLC, because as in this case with Portis and the workouts, JLC was wrong again. I understand your point, but as I said, getting all worked up in this thread from a misrepresentation from JLC, once again, is getting tiresome to read.
