I don't see why people aren't excited that we re-signed him. He's exactly the kind of player the Redskins need at other positions, smart, good leadership, excellent on special teams and he provides good solid depth.

Yes, he is a liability when he plays. And in no way shape or form is Doughty "quick". If you mean quick to get beat deep, then you are correct, otherwise, I disagree.

Maybe his injuries did hurt him, but from what I have seen, I am in no way impressed with him as a player.

Someone put on the tape, pull up the first game of 08, the preseason HOF game, watch what the Colts did on their first few drives, they went at doughty over and over successfully, he can't tackle and its because not only is he undersized but he takes terrible angles oh and he's too slow to carry any WR deep.

So we just signed a safety that struggles with...

1. tackling
2. angles
3. running

Thats three strikes and your out in my book. This was a financial move, we didn't have the cap to pay anyone with talent.

You want optimism? He's a decent Special Teamer. Thats it.

Yeah, 8 million of cap room precludes getting anyone with talent.

He is listed as 6'1" & 209#. That's not undersized. While his 40 time was less than impressive, his 3 cone & shuttle times were among the best that year. He's universally recognized as a very smart player. in 07 he recorded 53 tackles playing very little till Taylor's death. If his back is healthy, he will play.

The fact remains that Doughty gets burned quite often in coverage. A three-cone drill time doesn't help that much.

Listen, I like Doughty. He's strong around the line of scrimmage and makes good plays there. But he does get beat in coverage and does take bad angles many times.

But he is good for depth. I'm not sure, however, if he'll get much playing time. There's no way he'll unseat Horton for the starting SS position at this point. So if Horton stays healthy, Doughty will stay on the bench and be Horton's primary back-up at SS.

Landry is the starter at FS with Kareem Moore backing him up. Blache did use packages last year that included 3 safeties on the field at the same time. But that will include one SS and two FS's, which will most likely be Landry, Moore and Horton, which in my opinion, is a very solid group.

Don't forget about Moore. He made an even bigger impression in camp last year than Horton did. But since Horton is a SS and Doughty going down with injury, Horton got his chance and made the best of it. But keep your eye on Moore...

Gary: Williams is listed at 6-0 and 221 pounds and would likely have to play weak-side linebacker in Greg Blache’s defense. The Redskins are committed to Rocky McIntosh at that position. If they pursue Williams at all, then it would be to serve as strong safety. I think Blache likes the flexibility that young safeties LaRon Landry, Chris Horton and Kareem Moore give him. Blache can alternate Landry at both free and strong and insert Horton and Moore depending on game situations. Keep an eye on Moore this offseason--I think he could really emerge in 2009.

I like Kareem Moore a lot. This kid was a demon on special teams last year and that usually translates into other phases of the game.

Not quite true. Moore was slowed by injuries. He missed all the OTA's & part of camp. That's a lot to overcome for a rookie from a small school.
