Well, we did just save some money. Look on the bright side. I agree with the Ray Willis signing, he'd be a good Tackle, then we would most certainly go after Orakpo in the draft.

Thank God. We can finally put this ugly chapter behind us. As one who has been against this move since Day 1 ...can I finally say "I told you so"? This was doomed from Day 1. It had nothing to do with injuries, it had to do with getting old. Let's be real, if Bill Parcells thought the guy had anything left, he would have kept him.

I guess the problem now is who plays DE? There's nothing left in Free Agency to pick at DE and Orakpo will be gone in the Top 10 according to Kiper. Whereas, there is plenty of top end talent at Tackle to choose from at 13, there's nothing at DE.

How are we going to get pressure on the QB? What next? We also just got rid of our best pass rusher, Marcus Washington. We dropped our only other "threat" (Taylor)...and by threat, I mean it in a last season with the Wizards Jordan sort of way). I can't see us going in with Chris Wilson and Demetric Evans at one DE spot with Andre Carter to go with Haynesworth.

Is Haynesworth moving to end? Is he going to play both DE and DT. With the amount of money he's making, he should.

Taylor was a threat in Miami, but he was not a threat here. Washington wasn't on the field long enough to be a factor, either. If he was on the field, then he wasn't 100%. He's done great for us, but his time had passed.

Haynesworth will make anyone around him that much better. Carter is a talent and will benefit from this exponentially from it. Especially if they play Haynesworth to the strong DT side not alllowing a zone 3or4 vs 2 blocking scheme.

I think that a rotation of Jackson, Wilson, and whomever else they rotate through there will suffice with Carter and Haynesworth (provided Haynesworth is healthy is avereage 13 games a season).

Damnit. Why couldnt this happen before Canty signed with the Giants?

What did we give up for Taylor last year? A second and a fifth rounder? I guess there is no use into crying over spilled milk. Maybe the FO sees potential in the young guys we have or they may be gearing up to draft one of the D lineman in the draft. I am really feeling better about our offseason. We are spending a lot of money but at least we got rid of bruce smith errr jason taylor. Going young will benefit this team.

I don't think we need to get a DE that can rush...we have one. Carter can rush the QB and with AH, Griff, and a typical strong side DE on the other side, Carter can line up on the Left tackles outside shoulder and pin his ears back nearly every play. AH will also allow things to be "cleaner" inside giving the LB addtl rush lanes, so Blache can get creative.

I'd like to see Daniels and Evans come back
Pick 13 is a RT all day long

This opens up all kinds of possibilities. They could keep Evans/R. Jackson and draft Maybin/E. Brown/Orakpo to come off the edge, or draft Tyson Jackson to have a top run D, or draft a RT and address things like that in FA. I like Tyson Jackson, I think he would be like a young Daniels. However, I think we could get away with Evans starting and bringing in Orakpo/Maybin/or E. Brown to rush from outside LB. Tyson Jackson is an interesting possibility because he could get to the qb with a bull rush occasionally, and is an absolute beast against the run. Oh yea, there is always Jon Runyan. I smell a stopgap coming.

They can't do much... they ONLY have $11.952M of cap room -drinking

We could replace Taylor on the line by parking a Jeep Wrangler with only three wheels on it there, and not see any noticeable dropoff in production.
Back to "Dancing With The Stars", JT.
We hardly knew ye.

1niksder,

are you poking fun at all the people who said they could not be active due to cap issues?

Does anyone else think that we'll try to trade for Julius Peppers?

Now that we have cap space, who's ready to overpay for Julius Peppers? I'm sure that we could wrestle him free with the right offer: draft picks, first born children, and heaps of cash opened up in the JT move.

This was a mistake.

Jason Taylor was injured last season, he's still got a lot of talent, and IMO I saw him as the reason behind the Haynesworth signing.

Now we have a big defensive tackle and no elite ends, it makes no sense.

Maybe. But for 8 million dollars you would think he'd be willing to work out with the team. To me, his refusal to work out with the team or risk getting cut tells me his heart is not in the game anymore and he will officially retire. Gave up too much for him it appears but at the time it seemed like a worthy move.

yeah its not like he was required to even make all the workouts, I feel kinda iffy about this release but we'll see. I'm a big wilson fan and hoping we resign demetric evans.

Taylor’s 2009 salary was reported to be a hefty $8 million. Despite the Redskins’ free agent signings last Friday, team officials did not ask Taylor to take a pay cut.

The Redskins did want to add a clause in Taylor’s contract requiring him to participate in 25 of 39 days in the team’s off-season workout program.

Taylor declined, leading to his release.

 What a selfish fool. The team didn't ask him to take a pay cut, offering to pay him the full $8M per his contract, but simply asked him to participate in 25 of 39 days in the team’s off-season workout program, to which Taylor declined. Maybe that's why Parcel's didn't want him.

What a joke... I mean, if a team is offering to pay you THAT much money, especially after the season he just had... you're telling me you can't show up for a portion of the offseason workouts??? Good riddance...

Less than 2/3 of the workouts, too. What an ungrateful bum. I just hope he doesn't go to a division foe.

I also heard about this before today. I think Ray Willis would be a decent addition and especially since he already knows the WCO blocking schemes.

1niksder, just out of curiosity, what would the price tag be to get Peppers? I'm not suggesting they have to go and get him, just curious what it would cost.
