That's a good point. There is all this talk about Thomas, Kelly, and Davis being more involved, but where are all of these catches going to come from? Moss and

I doubt they are "hell bent on keeping ARE". Just look at his contract. He has been nearly immoveable because of the size of the bonus and length of the contract. This year is the first time where the cap hit for trading or releasing ARE would not kill us, but it would still hurt. Maybe next year, with another year of his salary off the books, we will be able to move him.
Lesson learned? Don't sign players to MEGA deals, that will entrench them on your team for 7 years depsite their production. Can you say Haynesworth?

I doubt they are "hell bent on keeping ARE".
Sure seems like it. Not only are they keeping him when he should be cut but Zorn is talking about getting him more touches.

Umm, did you read the rest of my explanation??? Money, contract, untradeable, uncuttable. We don't have the cap space to take the hit AND lose another player.

This just in from profootballtalk.com:
Our pal Lance Zierlein, a Houston radio host who has a blog at the Chronicle web site, reports that the Washington Redskins will sign Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth upon the start of the free agency period.
Unless, that is, the Titans exceed the offer that the Redskins will be making.
Writes Zierlein: “My source tells me to look for a contract that could break $100 million with an average of $15 million to $16 million per. My guy is almost never wrong and [Redskins owner] Dan Snyder gets what he wants.”
The bright side? The next time that Haynesworth tries to remove the scalp of Cowboys center Andre Gurode with a cleat, the behavior will better fit the nickname of Haynesworth’s team.
On Monday, Peter King of SI.com predicted that Haynesworth will land in D.C., pointing out that Snyder was seen dining in Indianapolis with Haynesworth’s agent, Chad Speck.

Remember back on December 23rd when I told you guys that Scott Pioli would be the GM for the Kansas City Chiefs before anyone had it? I got it from a very well-connected league source. That source is talking (actually texting) again.
Has Albert Haynesworth played his last game for the Titans?
This time around he tells me that the Washington Redskins will break the bank to sign Albert Haynesworth. The Titans could come over the top of the Redskins deal as well, but my guess is that the Redskins will let Haynesworth get the best offer possible from the Titans and then "better deal" it.
My source tells me to look for a contract that could break $100 million with an average of $15 million to $16 million per. My guy is almost never wrong and Dan Snyder gets what he wants. As a Texan fan, I would really be devastated to see Haynesworth leave the division ... only, no I wouldn't. Beat it, Haynesworth.
This isn't ESPN or anything, so take it with a grain of salt.
Not sure how I feel about the Haynesworth thing. You guys have all made a lot of good points. There's no doubt we have a huge need at that position. Its just hard as a Redskins fan given our history to have any faith that this gamble would be anything but another disaster.

I said all along that we should pay whatever it takes to get him because he will make our average DE's look awesome. If this is true I will be excited to see us get a passrush up the middle. But I am confused where we are getting the money from.....maybe he will make lke 2 mill this yr and 42 mill next yr (uncapped).
If he gets consistant pressure up the middle then our DEs are going to be able to fly around the ends and get to the passer. last yr if you watch the tapes the QBs simply stepped up into the pocket all day because there was no pressure up the middle. I for one would be excited to see what he could do........but I am also a little worried about the bust factor

Haynesworth would be an awesome addition but what are we going to do in the other 3-4 games he is going to miss? Read the stats on the first page I think its a pretty good reason to NOT sign him.

This reminds me of Sean Gilbert and Dana Stubblefield all over again.
Yes, I know they signed with the Skins before Snyder bought the team, but it´s practically the same scenrario: over paying for aging, injury prone, big name free agents.
How did that turn out?

yea he cant stay healthy I am well aware of that. But just think of the the possibilities IF JT and AC return to form....having Taylor, Haynesworth and Carter on the line......that could be sick.
If we do sign him then we absolutely need depth though bc we would be expecting him to play 12-13 games and be hurt for 3-4. Maybe thats where Chris Canty comes in? Moving him to DT could work in certain downs

I did realize that the source isn't profootball.com. It's a beat writer for the Houston Chronicle that is reporting this. Apparently the NFL Network has picked up on it too now. Still don't see how this is possible given our cap situation, although Samuels did agree to once again restructure his contract so that will save us some cap space.

Not too bad, actually...
Stubby... maybe... Except that Stubblefield was the beneficiary of a very good Defensive line across the board in SF. With Haynesworth, it's clear that he is the anchor that makes everyone else better. Despite that, for most of his time here, Stubby was considerably more effective than the play we got in 2008. I'd have been thrilled to have him playing last year, especially in comparison with what we had.
Sean Gilbert? Where do you get that from? We traded for him, he played like a beast... he wanted out (God told him to play for the Panthers)... we franchised him... and ultimately turned him into Champ Bailey and Lavar Arrington. Not a bad deal, I'd say. For one first round pick in 1997, we got one in 1999 and one in 2000, both of which were higher than the one we traded...

I still think that all of this talk is premature. It's all coming from the same source, a Houston Chronicle blog that is written by a radio talk show host. None of the national news sources appear to be reporting this so no need to flip out just yet. John Clayton is reporting that there are a number of teams in on Haynesworth and that it is unclear where he is going to sign.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. If that blogger has started this rumor solely on Snyder having dinner with the agent, he most likely doesn't realize that he's Kelly's agent as well. And further, it would be tampering to discuss a free agent contract before Friday, even though that does happen around the league every year. Also, Tampa is definitely in the mix to acquire Haynesworth. It's big news here in Florida and the Buc's fans are begging the organization to get him.
I just find it extremely difficult that the Skins would even have the cap room to do such a deal. I mean, they can't sign Hall, keep Taylor and Springs, have money for the rookie pool AND sign Haynesworth.
