If Kelly can't go, we need 1 of 2 things to happen. We bring in another WR or use Davis more. 3 WR is unacceptable for a pro team.
Right, when Betts is ready to come back, we drop TTTB and sign another WR.

Tryon as in Try on the practice squad for him!

This will certainly be an interesting decision for the coaches. There are several possibilities and scenarios to consider.
After thinking about it for a while, and assuming Kelly won't go on the IR, newly acquired safety Mike Green could be released. With the addition of Hall, if Springs is going to play more at the safety position, there might not be a need for Green.

Skins Cut Torrence, Sign Hall
The Redskins have waived cornerback Leigh Torrence and officially signed cornerback DeAngelo Hall.
Torrence joined the Redskins as a free agent on Dec. 27, 2006. He played in 16 games last season and in nine as a reserve this season.
And the verdict is......

I'm definitely not a big Torrence fan, but there were other moves to make instead of just releasing him. I guess they just don't want to put Kelly on IR.

I wonder if this means Kelly may be able to give it a go. I thought they'd move Tryon to the PS before letting go of Torrence. They must have a plan or have been discouraged by Torrence's play. Hall is certainly an upgrade though.

Maybe they were worried that another team would claim Tryon, but I'm not sure why. I don't think he's been on the field very much at all.
But I agree, if used properly, Hall should be a good pickup.
Anyone know if Springs plans to play against the Cowboys next week?

Springs is saying "definitely playing", as far as TTiT goes. No word from the medical staff yet. It's too early in the bye period. Why tip your hand?
Anyway, Torrence was an up and comer. I know he got beat on a few big plays, but this changes the Hall signing from a depth move to more of a "Let's keep all our remaining draft picks active" move. I'm pretty sure Vinny won't be calling me, but this move is not what I would have done. I'd've given Kelly time to get healed up on IR and been done with it. Then, I'd've gone after McMullen and sent Tryon to the practice squad and taken my chances with someone else signing him from there. Torrence was a gamer on special teams.

That sucks from a personal standpoint. I've been watching Skins' games with Leigh's dad for the past 20 years. They must really think Kelly is going to play soon, or they definitely should have sent him to the IR, and cut TTTB for another WR when Betts is ready to return.

That does suck. I could only imagine the highs and lows of being the parent of such a player... It certainly must be cool to see your son playing, though!
Wish him my best. Hopefully, someone else will need a player like Torrence soon.

They shouldve sent Tryon to the PS and kept Torrence. Leigh's not terrible and hes a great ST player. Sad to see someone whos been with us for a few years, and played well overall, get cut instead of sending a rookie to the PS.

Torrence is gone! YAY! He gave the Rams the victory and has gotten burnt more times than my mom's cooking.

Sad thing is that he will probably end up in Dallas, NYJ or NE. Hope Torrance doesn't go to Dallas and give up our plays. I'm sure he will be mad and be ready to screw us like we screwed him. Will bite us in the butt. Good job Vinny.

That possibility exists no matter whom we cut.

I guess it had to be. I won't miss his constant bewildered look after each opponents' completion

As well as the possibility that they'll just pick Torrence back up after Betts gets healthy (and they cut Alexander).

Here is a great comment that I found on this website:
http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2008/11/07/no-n ... ashington/
It's a prorated one-year deal for a guy who is going to a veteran defense with a clear-cut leader. He's got two choices: be on his best behavior and hope that his performance nets him another large contract or sulk and blow his chance at big money. This costs the Redskins basically nothing, he's not going to disrupt a close-knit unit. The secondary is hurting and the team can't be certain how many games it can get out of Springs. I know everyone wants to tie this to the hyperbolic narrative of "Snyder always gets the big names" but this is a sensible, practical move.
I couldn't agree more with the poster.
Is it an impostor or the one and only?

I'll do it. It must be even cooler to have your son play for your favorite team. I'm not sure how much information a defensive player can give up to another team, but I don't think Leigh would be looking to screw the Skins, anyway. I'm hoping they bring him back when Betts is well, like PE suggested.

I had not realized that Leigh was born in Raleigh. Did he grow up a Skins fan as well as DH then?

Have to disagree with that... he was all over Avery on the catch... the receiver just made a great play on the ball... and he hasn't been burned any more than any other DB on the team...

I'm sure he'll be resigned. Especially if Springs doesn't come back next year. I can't see too many teams signing him but anything is possible. He'll be our dime-back again next year.
1. Rogers
2. Hall
3. Smoot
4. Torrence

No one has signed him yet. I just checked. Who's on the practice squad that we can lose to get this guy back in the fold?

Wow, reading the thread this is out of the blue. How did we "screw" Torrence?

Put down the latest JLC column and just take a few minutes to breathe. We'll be alright. . .
