I own a tivo BUT I live in Nashville and the Fox station here is showing (get this) Paid Programming. Believe that? Paid mother trucking programming instead of Washington @ Philly, I don't understand it. I think it goes back to people in the media generally either not caring or despising the Redskins. If it we're Phi @ Dal there would be no issue.

The best sounding post was call out get beer & friends and watch football but I do have that need for $. This may end up being a gameday decision, they can't fire me for being "sick". I made a $800 sale today that outta by a brother a sunday.

Can't say I was expecting the responsible response but thanks guys!

Careful about those assumptions...

Luckily, I get some say over the times of my flights, so I was in my hotel room for the games, but still, it means I missed my brother-in-law's annual SB party, which is a great way to close out the football season. Watching the SB alone in a hotel room isn't nearly as much fun.

Now that's dedication. I hope the OP reads your post lol. I hear you re the differences between SB parties and watching alone in a hotel room. Done both myself and can't say I cared greatly for the latter.

I've watched every game this season and we are 3-1 do I really want to risk killing our momentum!

P.s. watching nfl replay of the last game and in dallas' last drive where they got a td to miles, Witten caught a pass and just stiff armed doughty to the ground, doughty on witten is terrible for us and yet we overcome. Wow this whole last drive for them is attacking doughty.

I don't know about Tennessee, but as an employer in Virginia I can tell you that in Virginia your employer can fire you for any reason, or no reason at all.

Most don't fire people for no reason due to the cost of unemployment compensation to unjustly fired former employees, but big box stores like Best Buy, Home Depot, and Walmart don't worry about something as trivial as unemployment compensation.

You are still a new employee too, so if you lay the groundwork that you are "sick" within your first 30-days they may fire you and you may not be eligable for any kind of unemployment compensation.

The best advice I can give you is to never believe that the company can't live without you. I've made that mistake when I was younger, and now that I'm management I've seen others make that same mistake.

Now obviously, you're a grown man, you can make your own decisions, and the mere fact that you posted here to ask other people's opinions shows that even you know the right thing to do would be go to work.

I'm gonna guess that everyone at your work knows you're a Redskins fan and your boss, while he may not be able to prove your aren't sick...may not have to.

Your responsibilities come first always!

But, if you miss make sure you come up with a good excuse and call in the night before. Make sure your excuse is good. If you have not missed any days yet and have been working there for a while it will be ok. If you are new then maybe not. Also consider how much you get along with your supervisor or boss. Weigh out these factors before making a descision.

Here are a couple if you cant think of any.

My car broke down, I got a terrible cold, I sprained my knee playing basketball, I have been throwing up all morning etc...

If not just go to work man. The Skins game can be tivoed thats what I am doing.

Work brother... hurts to miss, but like our hogs have mentioned, our SKINS will still be there. In this day we have VCR, DVR, NFL Network, Direct TV replay (ch. 705) and more.
It's a win win. you get to make that money and not miss a beat.
Oh and on a side note, do not down play your lack of knowledge for this particular job. Who knows, you may just pick up a lot and love it.

If I may, I'd like to add to what HEro is saying. It's far better to go to work, act like your sick and get sent home than calling in sick. just my 2 cents.

Coughing on people works sometimes.

There is the old, Can’t stay out of the bathroom. That ones easy, you run to the bathroom every few minutes, then just stay in there for a few. Splash a little water on your face before you come back out. Come out and do it all over again. After the first time, make sure you go to the boss and just mention what’s going on while explaining how sore your a$$ is from going all night long( woah! no pun intended). Usually after they witness it one time, he’ll send you home.

Don't be an idiot - go to work.

Didn't you ay that you JUST started there? Doesn't that mean that you're on some sort of initial 'probationary' period?

They don't usually need a reason to can you when you're in that probationary period - sounds like you're tempting fate to me.

I can't believe this didn't occur to me before, and re-reading this thread apparently everybody else missed it as well. OP, is there any way you might be able to trade shifts with a co-worker in your dept? Once upon a time I wore the orange, lol. (many are called, few are chosen  )

We used to do stuff like that quite a bit, but we had to run it past our DH and Asst. beforehand. It might be a little dicey since you're still a new hire, but it could be worth a shot. If you can safely find a body for your hours and supply a good reason for doing so, you're not skipping any work, just shuffling it around.

That would be alot easier if Joe Gibbs were still around. My 2 cents

I will be right there with you man, I have my National Guard obligation this weekend. Seems like since football started the leadership in my unit has insisted on staying even longer on Sunday's.

... and if the clone refuses?

This could become just another fine mess. Come on... think it through... like any clone worth his genes wouldn't love B & G.

LoL I want one if you find one!

Have your mom call you at work, chat for a bit, then make a bee line to the MGR and tell him/her it's a personal emergency. :D
