For the record, the joke was, "What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull? Lipstick"

That was a fairly personal moment when she made that remark. It appeared to be a spur of the moment remark to a section that had a fair amount of hockey mom signs. Even though it really bore no relevance, it was one of the things that stuck in my head (and apparently many others), and so the word lipstick in this presedential race has sort of become linked to her because of this. As I said, maybe I'm wrong and it was completely unintentional, but the way political campaigns dote over every angle before doing or saying anything (and I have family members that have worked on State legislature, gubernatorial and congressional campaigns, so I've seen first hand how they weigh out everything), I find it hard to believe that the link wasn't at least considered prior to the statement being made.

Is that the only difference?

So again, I have to say:

JSPB22 wrote:That's a very common colloquialism, and as NC43 pointed out, Obama was using that metaphor long before Palin was even picked as McCain's running mate. Is it conceivable that, knowing Obama was using that colloquialism, Palin's speechwriters inserted her joke, so that the next time he used it, the Republicans could say he called her a pig? That sounds very Karl Rovian to me.

No, but typing <rhymes with puck> 20 times to try to get a joke across makes the joke lose its luster.

Lipstick on a pig?

I heard it about eight years ago, in the transcript of a manager telling his brokers how to puff up a lousy stock and sell it to their customers. "Now we'll put lipstick on this pig and dump it".

The "lipstick", as best I remember, was an optimistic half-truthful projection that the firm slipped to a "commentator" on CNBC...who began to push the stock to viewers, who began to buy, and you can guess the rest.

I have to say that, after watching countless political ads during the game on Sunday, Mr. Obama is most certainly not running a 'high-road' campaign. We can dispute the relative severity of each candidate's low-road tactics, but neither has their hands very clean.

The McCain "can't use e-mail" campaign was a mistake. Whoever vetted the concept forgot a major question... and that is "Before we roll with this, is there some legitimate reason he can't use a computer?" Oops... just happens that there is... his significant loss of shoulder Range of Joint Motion... from some old service injury that was not properly treated... by his North Vietmamese captors... #-o

The next sound you will hear from the Obama campaign...

"Ummm.... never mind..."

You know, they should probably bring in Senator Inouye to help proof some of these proposed campaigns... He definitely would have told them to stuff this one. Regardless, the people running Obama's ad's just don't seem to get it.

I would think there are a lot of people out there who feel they are being insulted at the same time because THEY don't do e-mail. If I didn't do e-mail I don't think I'd like to be told that makes me out of touch, even if I am. ESPECIALLY if I am. I don't even get the point of it. Obama knows nothing about economics or liberty, what difference does it make if he can type? Lawyers turned politicans, going to solve our economic issues while ignoring the screw ups of the lawyers turned politicians who came before them (or themselves in the case of Biden) who created this mess. Let's see, the government underwrites 90% of mortgages in this country, it's CLEARLY a failure of the market!!!!
