Vet, it could've been worse with los.. You know that. =)
I was just commenting on how he was actually in the screen when the WR caught the ball, hell sometimes he's in there step for step, and getting good and tight with the WR. That is leaps and bounds of improvement from before! And if he caught those two balls for INT's I would've been pinching myself to check see if it was a dream. His hands are suspect for sure, remember the first playoff loss in Seattle, if he caught that INT, he also could've scored and kept our playoff hopes alive. He will improve on INT (I HOPE) practice makes perfect, I mean, c'mon, balls hit his hands all the time, he's bound to snag one! Even a broken watch is correct twice a day!

Amen...
Springs is as good as any "shut down" corner in the league right now. Since every one gets burned everyonce in a while.
Carlos did a fine job tonight. Good coverage, good speed, I just wish he also had good hands

I don't know about that. On one play in the 1st quarter, when he got absolutely torched by Burress (I think Eli pump-faked him), he turned around and jogged after Plaxico. I couldn't believe the lack of effort. If LaRon hadn't been there to back him up, Burress would have taken it to the house.

yup, plax was wide open on that one, but only on that one... Remember 2 years ago, when he looked lost, giving 15yd cushions... I'm just saying, he's getting better!

Everyone, including Carlos, wishes he had better hands, but if he did then he'd be a wide receiver, not a defensive back.
What a ridiculous argument. Most db's have played receiver at some point in their careers, whether in college or high school. There is simply no excuse for him constantly dropping easy int's. There are plenty of corners in the NFL that have no problem catching pics. Carlos continues to not live up to his top 10 draft status.

I don't think Springs is a shut-down corner anymore, but he's still the best the Redskins have -- if he can stay on the field. Not having him against the Giants hurt, but I'm not sure it would have made much of a difference in the outcome.
Hopefully Springs and Smoot will be on the field next week against the Saints.
Also, if the defensive line isn't getting much pressure on the QB, no cornerback is a shutdown CB.

Springs being out made all the difference in the world. One less score by the Giants and it is a one possession game. No doubt Springs would've made on of those four missed INTs, and the G-strings would have had 1 less score. That said, if "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a wonderful Christmas.

I have to respectfully disagree on this. Springs is our #1 corner this year, and to say that our #1 corner could not have made a positive impact really isn't logical.
I do agree on the D line. We desparately need an upgrade at tackle. There was no pocket collapsing, Eli just stepped up.

It would have been nice to have him out there, but I'm just saying that the D-line didn't get enough pressure on Manning consistently for it to make a big difference. That's just my opinion.

I agree. It doesn't matter how good your corners are (see the Denver Broncos) if you can't pressure the qb.

You're saying that it doesn't matter if our best players are out there. We didn't get dominated out there like the Pats loss or I would agree with you. I think that it was close enough to arguably say that Springs could have made the difference. With Springs out, our mickel back was a 2nd year player who is not proven. With our nickel back being Smoot, I feel a lot better with our secondary. It may have allowed the fronnt seven to be a little more aggressive. Purely speculation, but to completely dismiss it is silly IMO.

Springs was never a shut down corner. He has always been solid though. He is now a Saavy vet. Oh and yes he would have made a big difference in the Giants game. Heck that game is over with learn from it and move on.

I'll say this much:
That discussion we were having a while back about moving Sean Springs to safety ... I'm going to say Springs needs to be at corner for the forseeable future.
Fred Smoot was looking like a nickel cornerback last Thursday, lending more creedence to the Redskins needing to address the cornerback issue this coming off-season. If Springs is either out of games, or if he retires at the end of this season, the Redskins secondary is looking ripe for the picking.
Springs may not be a shutdown corner, but he is the Redskins only cornerback capable of "manning up" on a receiver without getting "turned and burned."
