The Mouse was my idol... but he had a boring name.

(Joe Don Looney's) tenure in Washington was largely uneventful. He had 55 carries for 178 yards. The only highlight of his time with the Redskins came on a play in which he didn't even have the ball. He was pass protecting for quarterback Sonny Jurgensen on a play, and ended up leveling an onrushing pass rusher with a right hook to the jaw.

He... wasn't quite right.

Please see user name. Also, Art Monk and any Hog, with a particular shoutout for Jim Lachey (HOF without the injury), Big Joe and the Grimm Reaper. Sammy Baugh was the greatest ever. See the history section for my write-up on him, including all of the records he currently is in the top 3 for. Sammy's 1945 campaign was the greatest season for any single player ever. Unfortunately, favorite isn't the right word, because I was not around to see him play.

This really isn't fair to anyone who's been a fan for more than a few years. Thinking back, there's always been a favorite. From the Super Bowl era to now, I've had numerous favorites. I think if he would have been allowed to play a full career, Sean Taylor would have been my all-time favorite Redskin.

All that aside, I think it's a tie between Art Monk and Darrell Green. I cannot choose between those two.

Yes indeed....but how about a current favorite Redskin?

Currently, I'd have to say Portis. He's got personality, talent, and he gives 110% every day. I especially enjoy watching him pass block, he'll sacrifice his body for the block. You don't see too many RBs do that, especially of his caliber.

I do love me some Marcus ... I remember when he signed, this isn't a verbatim quote but someone asked why the Colts didn't make a real effort to re-sign him, to which he said: "I think when they were done with Peyton's contract they had like $10 left."

I like Washington, because he really seems to enjoy playing football. It's rare that you see someone just having a ball on the field...but he does. Too bad he's been injured recently...

He was on my list too. I think he's still one of our best defenders. I'm not sure why so many seem to be so hard on him.

He did seem to disappear for most of last year. . .maybe that's because we got a real MLB so he wasn't forced to make every tackle, though.

. . .I just went and checked the stats, and he really did have a drop in performance. Aside from missing some games, his tackles were way down (even proportionally), and he didn't have any pass-defense statistics to speak of.

Fair enough. Wasn't he playing hurt part of the time though? Anyway, I'm not saying those things shouldn't be noted or acknowledged, but don't you think there's been an undue amount of negativity towards him over the last 2-3 years?

I haven't noticed it. Especially not in the last 2-3 years, the only critiques I've seen were during this past season.

But I have to admit that reading every post in every thread burns me out over time, so I might just not remember some of the negativity. Never underestimate THN's capacity for it, is what I've learned.

I wouldn't say he's been bashed or anything. It's not a big deal. I'm just saying he's still one of my favorites and it seems like there's been a lot of comments of giving up on him. That's all. I wouldn't have raised it except we're in the who's your favorite forum and he's still one of mine.

My 1st sports hero was Eddie LeBaron. He was the smallest player in the league & I was the smallest kid in my class.
Other former players include:
Green
Alvin Garrett- He read defenses as waeel as any WR i've ever seen & always seemed to get open fast when the other team blitzed.
Fisher- got as much out of his natural talent than anyone I can think of.
Jacoby- see above.
Manley- Almost unblockable when rushing the QB.
Houston- I'll never forget his stop of Walt Garrison at the 1 on 4th & goal on MNF to preserve a win.
Taylor of course.

Current:
Portis- As an example of his attitude, he led the team in tackles when on offense. Pure hustle.
Doughty- Rapidly improving player & an even better person.
Sellers- Tough as they come.
Jansen- See above.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some players past & present, but memory is the 2nd thing to go

For Me its Sean Taylor and Lavar Arrington. Sean Taylor obviously was a favorite for the many things he represented, Lavar represented the Redskins while the Skins were in a down time. So its hard for me to say. If I had to go with one it would be Sean Taylor.

Dexter Manley,Charles Mann, Joe Jacoby, Jeff Bostic, Ricky Sanders, Gary Clark, Ken Harvey, Doug Williams, Brian Mitchell, Art Monk etc......


Sean Taylor stands out the most to me. He played the hardest with not much on the Roster. Even though the team was not as talented as past teams he still brought the most to the table each and every day. Even in practice he played like it was his last day.
