Never really cared much for Madden's live football commentary, but the games were decent...until the NFL gave EA exclusive rights to the NFL franchise and eliminated EA's need to improve the games by wiping out their competition.

NCAA '08 crushed Madden '08 in every category and I don't even like college football.

Oh really? Then why is it that Madden happens to be the best football game sold by EA?

How about the ONLY NFL football game sold anywhere? The NFL will always be more popular than NCAA. Comparing the two isn't really fair.

Are you really happy with Madden? 05 & 06 were great games for the ps2/xbox. So far the next gen versions are no where close to previous gen. At least thats my opinion.

05 was soooo good. My friends and I would spend the first week of release just playing the training camp drills. The drills themselves were fun. QB's had the accuracy rings drill and pocket presence (Zorn) drill. Kickers and punters had drills. The DL drills where you had to go one on one with the first OL, get by the 2nd and then beat two OL to get to the flag. They scrapped one of the most enjoyable parts of the game in favor of weight lifting and running 40's. Training camp in the game used to be about transferring the drill skills into the game and boosting attributes. Now its just about boosting attributes. Snooze fest...

I think the majority of football gamers wish they had used the same engine as previous gen. I would've been happy with that engine coupled with better graphics and improved animations over what they're releasing now. The collision engine was so much better. The OL AI was better, the DB AI was better, the playcalling was better, progression was realistic, you had to actually play good defense. B.S. plays that you see people pull off would never happen in the previous gen. It was deeper and a lot more difficult.

You can't fault EA for getting the NFL license. The NFL wanted it, not EA. But I guarantee if there was no exclusive license that Madden would be a lot better for next gen at this point. Nothing pushes advances/progression like the prospect of losing money.

Competition in any industry brings out the best the best products. Unfortunately, no competition for Madden exist, therefore, you get a subpar product (if you even get one at all).

Did you buy both? Not many people do. Last year was the first year I had ever bought NCAA because as I said, I don't like College Football. I wanted to build my player from the ground up and import him into Madden. I had broken every NCAA record for a running back, you know what round my player got picked? Neither do I because it never told me. The game play was sub-standard comparitively, the graphics were worse, not better, and the playcalling was done by the same "radio" guy as last years release. It's not even Madden doing the playcalling anymore, doesn't that tell you anything?

They have saved themselves a ton of money not having to pay the namesake of their game to record any new voice tracks and instead found some nobody to do it. Do you think they would've done that if 2K Sports still had the ESPN crew doing play-by-play and Chris Berman doing the Sportscenter recap after each week?

The NFL has a much broader appeal than College football ever will. Hence Madden will be the top selling of the two titles as long as people are willing to accept the inferior product they keep churning out.

They have no reason to put any money into R&D to improve the game, sure they may put in some simple Gee-Whiz gimmick that doesn't really do anything to improve the game, but the fact is they have saved themselves a bunch of money every year by cutting corners they wouldn't even dream of if they still had to compete with 2K Sports.

I didn't compare these two until someone else did.

That is a general warning for everyone.
I have an anti-virus program that scans links before you click on them. It told me the link contains something called avihelper, which is a trojan.

What antivirus do you use?

I am thinking he clicks on the link and his firewall blocks the site. I also don't believe he can spot a g before me :)

I use a firewall called Black Ice. It blocks everything on every port unless I specifically allow it.

Sorry about that, folks. Sometimes spammers get creative and throw stuff into the middle of a thread.

The sad part is those photos had more entertaiment value than Madden NFL Football does.

When they've had as long as they have to make the simulation resemble the actual game, one would think they could get a little closer.

Also wanted to add that I've been scouring the forums over at EA for the last month or so. The uproar has been so bad since 08 came out that they're having the producers, engineers and animators come to the message boards to get feedback from the fans and answer questions. That in and of itself is impressive.

If you're a madden fan at all and were upset with 08 like I was, do yourself a favor and check out the stickied topics in the general info section at the ea site. Lots of good producer/consumer conversation going on.

Wow, according to that link. Overall the Redskins are rated 88.

The Shehawks and Saints are 87. But some how, the Eagles are right up there with the Packers at 91.

And the Cowpies, 96 right behind the highest rated Patsies 97. Huh, go figure.

On a side note, the Steelers are rated at 94 along with the SB champs.

Why the hell is Todd Collins a better rating than Campbell?? Collins was good for 4 games in a system he has known for 10 years and now everyone has boner fantasies about him.....

I would think they gave him higher awareness and accuracy numbers than Campbell. As we know, it only appeared that way for 4 games like you said, and in a system that he can run in the dark.

I'm sure they gave JC higher speed, agility, and strength numbers, but these don't help the overall QB rating i think.
