ARE should be paying us to play!

A lot of us rip on Lloyd for not producing, but ARE hasn't exactly been a great addition, especially considering how much we paid for him. As a punter returner he has been mediocre and as a receiver he isn't anything more than a slot receiver.

I wouldn't quite rip on ARE for his numbers as a WR. He's done pretty well considered he's been hurt. He's always looking for YAC, which is admirable to say the least. I watched Randy Moss in the SB fall down when he was taking an inside route that I don't think I would have seen ARE fall down on. I like 'em.

Now, if we could just get him to stop tap dancing on punt returns......

Well I disagree, I always felt that he was not a good runner after the catch, same with his punt returns always stopping or hopping or falling to the ground when he could just reach higher or reach lower. Maybe i'm wrong, it could have been the timing and accuracy of Jason's passes. But this guy always falling to the ground after a catch without being touched.

With that said he played decent for us last year and made some key plays.

JC's passes were hard and off target a lot. The way I remember it, though, is that ARE was the one always looking upfield after the catch for yards. There were a few questionable judgment calls, but I like his heart and drive after the catch.

good point...I don't like that either. but you should care aout how much he is making because his contract is one of the reasons we're in cap trouble this year...even after his restructuring.

You can't cut the guy, I'm not saying that...never did actually. Just upset about another bone headed signing.

Redskins restructured Chris ey's contract, lowering his cap hit $7.8 million.

They converted a roster bonus into guaranteed money. This is an annual event for the Redskins as Dan Snyder's cash helps to soothe any cap problems for the 'Skins. Washington is still over the cap, but has many moves to go.

We only have 8.2 million to break even with cap.

If we plan on getting any FAs, we need to drop off somthing like 16 more million.

The Washington Redskins received some salary cap relief Thursday by revamping the contract of tight end Chris ey.

FOXSports.com has learned Washington converted an $11 million roster bonus ey was scheduled to receive into guaranteed money. The move is believed to have lowered ey's 2008 cap number from a team-high $12.2 million to $4.4 million.

Other highly-paid Redskins are expected to accept restructured contracts as Washington works to get under the 2008 projected salary cap of $116 million by February 28. Reserve quarterback Mark Brunell ($6.5 million cap number) also is likely to get released.

The Redskins are currently $7 million over the cap, but that figure doesn't include calculations on contract clauses from 2007 like incentives that are still being finalized.

Washington has 15 players set to become unrestricted free agents highlighted by quarterback Todd Collins, who led Washington to a 3-1 record starting in place of the injured Jason Campbell.

I still think the redskins will get chad johnson trades always have 1 side would always deny trades. But Im shocked were already 7 mill away thats amazing.

ey didnt really restructure all that happened is that a bonus he was due is now just spread out over 5 years but he still gets the same amount of money and teh years stay the same. The Redskins do all of their big contracts the same way and they always just pay out the large amounts prorated over five years.

I read somewhere that that would save us $2.4m, although whether that would be before or after 1st June, I don't know.

The problem is, it's in English... and I'm not sure that all can read it. I suspect that "what your definition of 'is' is" may also provide some room to quibble.

Thanks for clearing that up TRO and Fios - so for those still interested in a C. Johnson trade it seems there is still a chance, albeit small, of a trade and we all know that Snyder likes to add players whose ONLY interest is financial and not in helping this team - so please continue to analyze this possibility - I just wish I had some of whatever y'all are using

I just read on another board (a much less reliable one) that we just restructured Jon Jansen's contract. With that move and the void of MB04 and Rock Cartwright's contracts at the start of FA, we are down to just $700k over the projected cap. Can anyone verify this?

Quarterback Mark Brunell's contract was just voided, saving the Redskins $3.4 million against the salary cap and getting them under the $116 million limit more than 30 hours before the 11:59 PM Thursday deadline. This doesn't mean Brunell, 37, won't be back for a fourth season in Washington. But it does mean if he does return, it will be at a much more sensible price.

After Jon Jansen and Chris Samuels re-worked their contracts it took the Skins down to around $1.3mil. over the cap. Then they cut Lloyd (post June 1st, that's $4.2mil. that stays on the books until it drops to $1.8mil. in June, Mark cleared $3.4mil. meaning the Redskins have $2.2mil. to play with, until they sit down with CP, Moss and Washington

It all comes down to how much an owner is willing to come out of his pocket with the money right then and there. The player gets his money up front, and that amount gets knocked off the cap. It's like your boss saying, "Let me give you half your yearly salary up front instead of waiting on your paycheck. It smooths things over with the boys in accounting." Not a real sacrifice for the players.

Most teams in the league are unwilling to do this, because the owner is usually too cheap. That is one thing I give credit to this front office for, they work some serious 'cap magic'.

Players have been re-working contracts for the pass two weeks - still doing it in some cases, Moss just re-worked his deal and Collins will only cost $1.5M this year so the cap number is around $4M under.
Portis is rumored be working on a new deal now
He could free up another $3M or so.
