The line is too small. and the backside end (Wilson) coupled with Blades behind him really worries me. If we go with a 3-4...Griffin is cut I bet. No need for him.

The lead the La Canfora's story at 9:0-something is different than the one that was up there two hours before. The new one is much more Zorn-centric, with only a passing mention of "Fassel expecred to be ..."

I don't see this anywhere on the ESPN site....all signs are pointing to Zorn and Fassel being hired sometime soon..I think they aren't going to hire him untilthey can pry Rex Ryan away from the Ravens

Redskins Turn Focus to Zorn
By Jason LaCanfora
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, January 23, 2008; 9:03 PM
The Washington Redskins switched their emphasis yesterday away from hiring a new head coach to filling out the assistant coaching staff.
With sources around the team and league saying they expected Jim Fassel to become the new head coach, the Redskins interviewed Jim Zorn for the offensive coordinator's job today. Zorn, the quarterbacks coach of the Seattle Seahawks, is well regarded by both Fassel and Gregg Williams, the Redskins' current assistant head coach -- defense.
But sources said tonight that Zorn was expected to talk with Seahawks officials, who want to keep him on their staff. The Seahawks could promise to give him their offensive coordinator job when Coach Mike Holmgren retires after next season. That might be enough to persuade Zorn, a former Seahawks quarterback, to join fellow Seattle assistant Jim Mora in withdrawing from Redskins consideration.
Also, in the event Williams is passed over and leaves, the Redskins have discussed hiring another Fassel favorite, Rex Ryan, as defensive coordinator, sources said. But Ryan, the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens the past three seasons, might not be free even if he wanted the job. The Ravens changed head coaches and gave their assistants permission to interview with other teams, but they contend they have the contractual right to keep Ryan from taking another defensive coordinator's job.
With the two coordinator positions in doubt, what appeared to be a certain scenario earlier in the day -- Fassel, Ryan and Zorn taking over the Redskins -- seemed less certain by nightfall. When Gibbs's hiring was announced, he already had hired Williams. It seemed unlikely the Redskins would bring in Fassel without his coordinators having been picked.
The possible hiring of Fassel has been greeted with strong derision by fans, who filled the team-sponsored chat room and the comments section of the Washington Post's site with hundreds of anti-Fassel postings. The majority of calls to local sports talk radio stations have also been negative.
The hiring of Fassel would also appear to contradict statements Snyder made at the news conference announcing Gibbs's departure two weeks ago. Then, Snyder stressed his desire to maintain continuity and praised Gibbs for stabilizing a franchise that had gone through four head coaches in the four seasons before he arrived. Naming two new coordinators and a new head coach would result in a complete overhaul of the team.
This whole thing is getting more ridiculous by the minute. Vinny and Snyder need to figure this thing and get moving with the rest of the offseason. If you're GW, do you even want the job at this point??

Honestly, yeah, I really did. I thought after the team came together this season, Snyder had learned a lot. It's not looking that way...

I understand your point, but even with Gibbs, this team was a roller coaster where it mattered, their record. I like jokes and all, just getting tired of being the butt of the joke. (As far as my team is concerned)

Well, the media coverage of the coaching search is definetly turning into a debacle. But, the skins haven't actually done anything. Therefore I'm not sure what blame you can give them.

Yeah what you're missing is they have Ngata lined up as a DE for the Ravens. Guy is bigger than almost any other DT out there.
They'd have probably Montgomery playing that position, not Daniels or Wilson.
It's labeled DE but it's a DT in all but name.

None of know for sure but did GW upset JG and DS when he started 10 players without JG's knowledge? I never thought much about this but I was talking to a former Head Coach tonight and he said he would have been very upset if that happened to him. Even if he agrees with the decision he was to KNOW before it happens. What are your thoughts?

From the little that we know, and that's just barely more than nothing, this search is Dan Snyder's show. All of it.
Maybe we'll know more once it's announced, but not now.
Anyway, I doubt that Snyder, or Gibbs, was all that upset by the missing man defense on that one play.

Honestly, do you think that has anything to do with the long process. Danny is just being Danny. He likes to use his money and hire big names.

Not sure but if JG had any input in the next HC decision I think there may be some fallout from the poor decision by GW not to inform JG.

Wow, if Dan Snyder doesn't hire GW, I'm going to be pretty upset...I won't stop being a die-hard fan. We need another man like Jack Kent Cooke as our owner.

Zorn top candidate as O coordinator but no Fassel deal yet
By Len Pasquarelli and Chris Mortensen
ESPN.com
Former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel remains under strong consideration to fill the Washington head coach vacancy, but a Redskins' source said late Wednesday he has not yet been offered the position and that club officials might still decide to wait until after Super Bowl XLII to interview one or more assistants from the franchises involved in the championship game.
Team and league sources also insisted that Washington defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who was considered the heir apparent to Joe Gibbs and who has interviewed four times with owner Daniel Snyder and executive vice president Vinny Cerrato in the past 10 days, is still a candidate for the position.
It has been rumored that the Redskins might be interested in meeting with Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who has vast experience in the NFC East. Before being named as the Giants' coordinator, Spagnuolo was the Philadelphia Eagles' linebackers coach for eight seasons. A Washington source acknowledged Thursday that Spagnuolo is "on the radar screen" of Redskins' officials.
League rules prohibit the Redskins from interviewing Spagnuolo or any other assistants from the Giants or the New England Patriots until after the Super Bowl.
Snyder may take a few days to consider his options. If he decides not to wait until after the Super Bowl to expand his list of candidates, the job could very well go to Fassel, who compiled a 60-56-1 record in seven seasons as the Giants' head coach (1997-2003), and who led the club to a Super Bowl XXXV appearance. Fassel, who most recently served as the Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator before being dismissed from that job midway through the 2006 season, was also a head coach candidate in Washington in 2004 before Snyder coaxed Gibbs out of retirement.
Fassel, 58, on Monday interviewed with Snyder and Cerrato for a second time in recent weeks.
On Wednesday, the Redskins met with Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn, and he has emerged as the top choice to be their new offensive coordinator, no matter who is hired as head coach. It appears that the Redskins will part ways with assistant head coach/offense Al Saunders, who joined the staff in 2006 as one of the NFL's highest paid assistants.
Zorn, Seattle's quarterbacks coach for the past seven years, met with Snyder at Snyder's home, a person familiar with the coaching selection process told The Associated Press.
Zorn is a longtime local favorite in Seattle. He was the franchise's original starting quarterback in 1976 and played nine seasons with the team. He returned as an offensive assistant from 1997-98 and again as quarterbacks coach in 2001.
The hiring of Zorn or any new offensive coordinator would represent yet another scheme change for Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell, who has played in six different offensive systems over his last seven years of college and professional football.
The Redskins also want to hire Rex Ryan as the team's new defensive coordinator, sources said. Ryan has been the defensive coordinator for the Ravens for the past three seasons. But the Redskins have been stymied in their attempts to hire him because the Ravens still retain contractual rights that allow them to block Ryan from taking another defensive coordinator job.
Last week, as first reported by ESPN.com, the Redskins arranged an interview with Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, whose contract with the Bucs had expired. But just hours before he was to board a plane for the meeting with the Redskins, Kiffin agreed to a mutiyear contract extension with Tampa Bay on a deal believed to be worth about $2 million per year.
Senior writer Len Pasquarelli covers the NFL for ESPN.com. Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

This whole thing is now getting downright stupid. Waiting until after the Super Bowl?? That would be a coaching search of over 4 weeks. Not only would that further drag this out, but would put the incoming staff (if different than current staff) at a disadvantage in draft and free agency preparations.
What exactly are we doing interviewing coordinators before a head coach is in place?? It's very important that a head coach is able to put together his own staff, or at least have some input into the hirings. As for Zorn, he might be a good coach, but I highly doubt that is as good of an OC as Saunders. Who do you want, a successful and established OC or an OC who has never designed an offense or called his own plays at the NFL level?
If this search lasts until after the Super Bowl, and no candidate emerges that they like better than GW, does he even still want the job at that point? If he still takes, just imagine the scrutiny that he is going to get from the media. Every interview is going to be about how he wasn't the first choice and all sorts of distracting stuff like that.

Better start practicing being angry. Looks like Fassel is a done deal, they are just working on securing Ryan....and the last I heard, Zorn is heading back to Seattle for an offer he can't refuse.......which leaves the OC in limbo.
