Did anyone else hear that ESPN radio just said Fassel is in final contract talks with the Redskins?

Just what the heck (expletive) is The Danny visulaizing, or so impressed with any other coach than GW?
I mean, come on Danny, you said you learned quite a bit from Gibbs, show some of that new "patience" that you said you attained.
This is why, at times, we are a laughing-stock of NFL... becuase of BS indecision and moves that put the team back 2 to 3 years from where they currently are.

The Redskins reportedly want to talk to Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo about their head coaching job.
The Redskins reportedly told Jim Fassel they would make a decision on their new head coach in the next two days, but they'd have to wait until after the Super Bowl to talk to Spagnuolo. Gregg Williams remains in the mix. Spagnuolo has also garnered interest from the Falcons, who have put their search on hold until they can speak with him. Jan. 22 - 2:10 pm et

These last 2 weeks makes the Redskins organization look pathetic. Why does Snyder always think the grass is greener on the other side. We bring in Fassel and we are starting at square one. G. Williams should have been hired after the first interview, even if he were to hire Williams at this point looks bad, and with Williams pride, I wouldn't be suprised, nor would I blame him, if he turned it down. This team needs the same systems in place, we are not that far off, as is evident by the NFC playoffs this year, this is really a joke, Snyder has no clue.

Thankyou. I'm sorry that I have been upset, but man as a die hard Redskins fan it makes me really upset when I read that people are going to drop their tickets and Redskins gear if this indeed happens. It hasn't happened yet. Its just a rumor lets all wait and relax until the press conference to where its offical. I can understand about being angry about a decision that they may make but alot of people are blowing this out of poportion

I'm not going to drop my tix... I'm just venting.. I'm just going to be really upset if GW doesn't get the job. I'm being ever optomistic that he learned a great deal about being a head coach from Gibbs and that all the chemisrty that is going on with this team will continue if he gets the job.

I said this on another thread, but I'll say it again here.
If you set aside GW's 4 years here as DC, and look at his record as a HC, he is the worst of the candidates.
Couple that with the down year in 2006, and some of the poor personnel decisions that led to that decline (Peirce, Clark, Arrington, Harris). (And we don't know how much input he had on Archumama), he hasn't been perfect here either.
In Buffalo he had discontent on the team. He has demonstrated (in the past) a rather arrogant "my way or the highway" attitude, along with some of that showing up here in his "it's my system" attitude that discounted the players responsibility for the defense's success (and that was with Gibbs here keeping egos in check), I'd say Synder is utilizing more wisdom than he's being credited with here.
As far as the players and coaches behind Williams.....that is natural and to be expected. They know each other, and have worked together for 4 years, and share the ST tragedy with each other. People (football players are no exception) generally avoid changes unless the situation is so bad they feel any change would be an improvement. You get comfortable, and you tend to want to maintain your established routines, and don't want all of that shaken up. Change is uncomfortable because you don't know what to expect. Coaches don't want it either, because they worry they might be out of a job.
But realistically....very realistically.....the Redskins under performed this year, and could be in the position the NYG find themselves in. And guess what NYG feel was their turning point? The game against us, when we had them beat, and we let them off the hook.
We did an almost repeat this year of 2005, and we managed to sneak into the playoffs when we should have challenged Dallas for the division. We had the talent, and we could have done it.
Lest anyone forget, there were a lot of questionable coaching decisions this year.....clock management and poor use of time outs....prevent offense and prevent defense in the second half of games that had us losing 4-5 games we were leading at the half?
If collins hadn't come in and played as well as he did, the Redskins could have lost 3 out of the final 4 games and finished 6-10 again. AND NOBODY WOULD BE SAYING HOW CLOSE WE ARE. We were just as close to disaster as we were success.
I'd say that overall, it's valid to have questions about the coaching this year, and how best to proceed in the future.

Fassel's record with the NYG in his first stint as HC was way better than Bill Belichik's in Cleveland. And that was in the NFC East, historically one of, if not the toughest divisions in football.

Can we please stop with the Belichick/Browns analogy. Belichick led the Browns to an 11-5 record in his 3rd season there. They won a playoff game. Unlike GW, Belichick didn't lose his team the way GW did. Belichick wasn't a great success but when was the last time that either the Browns or Skins finished with an 11-5 record?? In the year that he got fired, the Browns were actually not doing that badly, it was after the announcement that the team was moving to Baltimore that that season fell apart. So there were some things that happened in Cleveland that were beyong Belichick's control (franchise move) and he definitely showed signs of being a good head coach.

Rex Ryan/Senior Bowl Rumblings
The former Ravens defensive coordinator - and possibly future Ravens defensive coordinator - has been talked about among many NFL people as a possible replacement for Gregg Williams should Jim Fassel get the job. Ryan has ties to Vinny Cerrato and his name has come up frequently during this hiring process.
However, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, Ryan's contract stats has been reported incorrectly. It's been widely reported that Ryan was fired along with the rest of Baltimore's staff. But while it's true that Ryan is free to interview for any head coaching jobs - and he's still in play in Atltanta (who isnt't at this point? what a debacle the Falcons' situation has become), the Ravens could still block any lateral move, according to a source.
Ryan remains Baltimore's property as a defensive coordinator, and could ask for compensation should another team want Ryan to run its defense. The Ravens players wanted Ryan to get the head coaching job there and there is a strong belief Baltimore would like to retain him as defensive coordinator. So I doubt they'll just let him walk down 95. Now, Ryan might also want to push for a change of venau as well given he was passed over for the head gig. They'll have to work some things out, obviously. And the Redskins could try to get creative with some new titles for him - a specialty round here - but the situation is certainly more complicated than it would seem on the surface.
Redskins coaches still have been told nothing about the coaching vacancy and no word given to any candidates recently. A decision could come today perhaps. Sources said there was a brief conversation between Jim Schwartz's represenatives and the Redskins Sunday night but numerous parties invovled in the search, connected to numerous candidates, said they have been told essentially nothing in the last day.

Other stuff: Two Redskins coaches have their contracts expiring, RB coach Earnest Byner and LB coach Kirk Olivadotti. League sources would not be surprised to see Byner end up back with the Ravens possibly in the same role ... The Redskins contingent in Mobile is up in arms. Players and coaches are distraught over the poorly worded press release regarding Cerrato's promotion and Jim Fassel's emergence as a candidate with multiple interviews. They are taking a lot of grief from other team''s people down there and, according to some league sources, the word "laughingstock" is being thrown around in regards to how the team is operating. The timing of the Cerrato release and the fact that it stated he would have "roster" control was a big issue down there; that's always the domain of the coach. The team later backtracked on that issue when I pushed it with them and said any new coach would pick the players, but the inclusion of that word, clumsily or not, read like a "shot across the bow," according to one GM. Of course the players and coaches have a vested stake in Williams getting the gig, too, as it would mean greater security for them and in many cases a contract extension or re-negotiation.
Snyder's reputation of meddlesome ways is working against him here and the league is watching to see if he really chooses stability. This promotion reads to many as an extension of the past in that Snyder runs the team through Vinny, and Vinny and Dan, especially with Gibbs gone, will be in essence the team president/GM/whatever else. The titles don't matter; Snyder is obviously very involved and Gibbs said as much so many times in talking about draft picks, free agents, contracts, etc. They can lurk in the shadows and the coach gets to meet the media everyday and take all the blame.
Of course the players and coaches have a vested stake in Williams getting the gig, too, as it would mean greater security for them and in many cases a contract extension or re-negotiation.

He was interviewed by phone today on ESPN 2 and I just had to laugh. He was like a little kid, all giddy about being interviewed, but obviously knew nothing, just threw around a bunch of speculation and conjecture, and almost took pride at taking some shots at Snyder and the organization. Talk about a tool...
League sources, coaches around the league, the media... nobody knows crap. It's sheer speculation by all right now.

Oh you mean Billicheat? All he did was get got cheating which I had been saying for a couple years before he finally got caught. Don't think I want him.
