No true Redskin fan would ever root for the Pukes IMO. If that's a 'homer approach'....so be it.

So in other words, if, at some time in the future, the Cowboys were playing, say, the Eagles, and a Cowboy loss meant we would miss the playoffs but a Cowboy win meant we would get home field advantage throughout, you would root for the Eagles even though that Cowboy loss would keep us out?

:hmm:

Gimme a break "true" fan.

OK, the Eagles. I personally hate them more then the Cowboys. The Cowboys are DOWN the list a ways. OK, they're #2 on the list.

Big picture wins out here.

Sometimes denial is a wonderful thing. I'm not watching the Dallas game or even recognizing they are playing, I'm just checking checking the standings and seeing what the final score is. Hey, I have Sunday ticket and the game is in progress, I just wonder from a cool, distance what the score is and what updates there might be.

Totally different then ROOTING for them. This weekend though I will root for Detroit, I can practice the casual curiosity on the standings and the effect of a Cowboy game on them if it affects us only at the very end where it really does determine if we get in or not.

Look at it as a win win situation.

If Dallas loses, we are happy cause we hate them and they lost.

If Detroit loses, we are happy cause it helps our chances of gaining a wildcard birth.

I have rooted for Dallas in the past - in 1972 I wanted revenge in the NFC championship game, same in 1982. Revenge was sweet!!

If we make it in the final Wild Card spot we will be seeing Dallas in the Divisional round, assuming we win our Wild Card game and the Pies get the top seed.

That'd be the best thing that could happen. XD

Let's all try to not let our Hatred for the Cowboys outweigh our Love of the Skins.

It did seem a little strange hoping that the Pukes would recover, come back, and beat the Lions to help us out. Glad that they did, although it did give my a chance to heap my normal amount of abuse on them for about 59 minutes of their game today.

that's what I'm sayin'

where would you like your break?

I was hoping I'd get my break in this post of yours but I can see I won't. No problem. I asked if that's what you're sayin' and you said yeah. Now I know. That's cool. Thanks.

Scene at your house:

Cowboys lose!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We could've had home field throughout and now we don't even get in but who cares? Cowboys lose!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!! Pass me another beer. Gotta figure out who my second favorite team is since Skins are done even though they could be playing the NFC title game at home and going to Super Bowl but this is EVEN BETTER because THE Cowboys lost!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You certainly have a right and maybe even have good reasons to feel the way you do but please don't say I'm not a "true fan" because I'd want to see the Cowboys win in this scenario. I disagree with your view but I stop short of saying you are not a true fan - just one who thinks differently than I on this one.

I'll say it again.

No true Redskin fan would ever root for the Pukes IMO. If that's a 'homer approach'....so be it.

I said it's my opinion. I didn't directly accuse you of not being a true fan.

Keep you cute scenarios to yourself.

I watched the end of the game and NO DOUBT I was rooting for the Lions. I can see engaging in discussion on what we SHOULD think but I just can't imagine watching the game and rooting for THEM COWBOYS. Just my view.

Well, to be honest with you all, I was a huge Cowboy AND Giants fan this weekend and no one can ever question my loyalty to OUR Skins. I'm simply rooting for whoever I need to so that we can make it in ourselves. Sure, if the Lions had won I'd have laughed like crazy at my Cowboy friends but in the long-run folks, I NEEDED Lions to lose. I've noticed people taking the 'homer' approach and I can understand but MY favorite team in ANY sport is the Skins and I'd love for them to make the playoffs this year at any cost. For the remaining games its gonna be the "who plays who" to determine who I'm rooting for but believe me it'll be for the team that does something to benefit OUR Skins.

Next Week I'm Going For...
Atlanta over Tampa Bay
Arizona over New Orleans
Seattle over Carolina
San Diego over Detroit.. actually, I'm rooting for all AFC teams to beat all the NFC teams they face
Dallas over Philadelphia

However, if we lose to the Giants I'll be rooting for Philly.. LOL

I was happy to see the Cowboys win on Sunday. I look at the bigger picture and not just "I want the cowboys to lose at any cost." If a Cowboys win benefits the Redskins, well, Love>hate. Love is greater than hate my friends.

I will quote myself for my good buddy TH.

I dare say, no one hates Dallas more than me, but you gotta think big picture dude.

You just said it again - though I suppose using the word "directly" gets you off the hook. After all, you imply rooting for the Cowboys in any circumstance precludes me from being a true fan.

BTW, thanks for calling my scenarios cute - I guess - but I'll post 'em whenever I feel like it.

Now if you don't wanna read 'em ...

For what it's worth (trying real hard to stick to post and not poster here) - though my mind wanted the Cowboys yesterday my stomach felt a strange urge to vomit.

Peace (offered),

Still looks tough out there from my PoV.

The way I see it is that I'm rooting for anyone who's going to help my beloved skins. If the 'pukes beat someone that gives us a better chance to win, then so be it. Even if those sorry punk Pats are playing someone to help us along, then I'll take it. Aspreviously stated, it's all about the big picture!

As long as the Redskins win, there will be no more need to beckon the dark side.

They have games left with CAR and PHI -- teams that are already one game behind the Redskins. Sure, it would be nice to take those challengers completely out but getting/staying ahead of every possible WC contender otther than New Orleans is now (mathematically, at least) in the Redskins' control.
