Yeah he had a 1598 yard season three years ago, and since then he's had like a combined 1200 yards. What have you done for me lately?

That being said, I seriously doubt McCants would beat Boston out for a job. Boston just needs to stop pumping those roids, his arms are so big he can't close them together to catch the ball anymore...

For many games David Boston was benched and Eric Parker took his spot and played well, at one point the Chargers were rumored to almost release Boston, so his job is not in any way set in stone.

But this is totally off topic, the post is about trading players to get back picks, namely, McCants.

Maybe other players..but something needs to be done.
However, Gibbs does like to have depth, so who knows whats going to happen. Maybe Gibbs doesn't want many draft picks this year since Vinny would probably mess them up?

But he uses them to b*tch slap corners to get open. He gets open a lot.

Gardner need someone to guide him, like Gibbs. He looked out of place last season. If he sticks around, I think he could be great- an Art Monk prototype. At least he isn't Westbrook.

The problem with attempting to trade McCants for a high draft pick is the current market value.

There are always a handful of Vets released...and the current availability of Psycho receivers such as San Frans TO & Tampa's Meshawn Johnson.

Add to that...this years draft pool is bubbling over with Wide Receiver talent. The recent additions of Williams & Fitzgerald will have the ripple effect of leaving very good receivers on the board into the 3rd round.

The Market is not that good for a McCants for draft pick trade IMO.

Good point. Gibbs will work with McCants and Gardner. I hope he can get more out of Gardner this season.

I hope we can hold to em all....as our receiver corp, I believe, is our strongest unit....without question.

I'm with Pete. If something amazing comes up that makes the team infinitely better, then you have to go with that. Otherwise, trading a known commodity for an unknown is not what Gibbs usually does. I like McCants. He's got hands. Taylor Jacobs ? All I know about that man is that he has a leaky spleen. Need to see more.

We need to keep him. We need to stop getting rid of the character guys and the over-achievers. We constantly seem to keep some higher-profile guy that never pans out while our character players goes on to some other team and becomes a nice solid role-player. Each season, McCants seems to be on the bubble and each time he shows he can do the job. He just needs a chance to shine and have a team believe in him (IMO).

Just like last year, we shouldn't have cut the running back right before the season. Geez, I feel bad. I can't remember his name now. Anyway, he was a solid player, wasn't flashy, gave all he had and we cut him. If you see a less well-known guy that is performing well and giving it his all only to see him cut, to me that messes up a team's spirit (for the lack of a better word). In another thread I saw someone mention Rudy and then another post mentioned Rudy not being a good football player. That's true but Rudy inspired his team and it went way beyond his football abilities. So, his value was much more than just his football ability. IMO, we keep getting rid of all the Rudy's. It was kind of a corny line in the movie the Replacements but I really do believe a team needs heart and I think we're lacking that currently. That may just be the NFL in this day and time though. Okay, I'm jumping off the soap-box now.

kenny watson. actually, i liked him. in 2002 he had 116 carries for 534 tds, good for a 4.5 ypc average. only 1 touchdown. it looked like he could have been a decent starter or a very good backup.

anyways, since this thread is about mccants...i would like to see him come back. if we could get a 2nd rounder for him, i say "why not?". but, i highly doubt it. let's face it: the big man's got a knack for getting in the endzone. let's see what happens next season.

His resigning should have happened earlier. INMO

McCants, deffindelty not a fluke, he wa smakign big catches in 02' as well when he wasn't gettin as much time. Hes a physical WR who can pull down balls over the middle. Always makes the tough catch. Ive been sold on him since he came here.

McCants is Gibbs' kind of guy... I can't see us not locking up DM for a few more years.

And I hope so. He's pure class, and he's got silk hands. WRs that catch TDs and make tough catches over the middle don't exactly grow on trees.

Watson did wind up with Marvin in Cincy.

According to the Washington Times the Redskins will tender McCants for a little over 1 million this season, this will make his compensation a 1st round pick (like the Jets did with Laverneous).

I seriously doubt a team would give up a 1st rounder, but teams like the Vikings and Detroit have been known to make bad offseason moves.

McCants is great. He is the WR that Marty envisioned he would become. But right now, as a restricted free agent his value is at it's highest it will be (trade/compensation wise).
If a deal were to come...pull the trigger.
Otherwise, he can be a Ricky Sanders type 3rd wide out.

*Note, the Skins did NOT tender any other restricted free agent (Iffy, Pierce), so they can walk for no compentation if the Skins do NOT match an offer. Iffy might be sought after.

Well, cutting Larry Moore would save 1.3 million. Freidman is a good center and he is cheap. He was a high prospect coming out of college.

An upgrade, and only option, would be getting the talented Damien Woody from the Patriots.
He can play Guard and Center. If an injury happens Friedman can step in at Center and Woody could move to Guard, etc.
However, the Patriots will likely resign him...UNLESS Redskin One shows up in Boston on Mar. 3rd.

Can Fiore play center? Do we want him? Can he (and his bad wheels) be cut with little or no salary cap ramifications?

Fiore will be a great backup to Derrick Dockery.

Dockery played GREAT the second half of the season and Bugel is going to make Dockery a stud. Dockery was projected to be a 1st round pick, the Skins had him ranked in their TOP 5 OVERALL players in the draft last year but he fell due to a poor combine.

Fiore will be a solid backup, and yes, he can play multiple positions. He is a great insurance policy.

i would say our wr's aren't as good as our qb's OR our OL (though a new C wouldn't be bad).

I'm really only sold on Mccants and LC, gardner is a possesion receiver who can't catch, t. jacobs is a soft florida wr (who couldn't even crack spurious' lineup -granted we didn't see him much), russell is terrible, patrick johnson is adequate as a 4th at best.

The only reason to trade Mccants would be if we could get a 2nd rnder, which is unlikely.

Patrick Johnson will not be back. He is an unrestricted free agent right now and the Skins will use the money he would cost elsewhere.

Gardner had a 70 catch 1,000 yard season in 2002. He had a bad year last year, but not that bad considerring he was a number 2 WR to Coles.

He does need to work on his focus, but Gibbs will correct that. Gardner was amazing at Clemson and will rebound this year.
If Brunell is the starter it could be very similar to Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell down in Jacksonville a few years back.
Brunell made BOTH Smith and McCardell 1,000 yard receivers.

mccardell (ex-skin) was the best receiver on TB last year: '03 - 84 rec. 1200yds 8td, and J. Smith picked up 54 rec. 800 yds and 4td in 12 games, so it wasn't exactly all Brunell.

The main thing is that gardner drops big passes, and he's too busy on his cellie talking about bling to work himself into a clutch receiver like mccardel.

mccants, on the other hand, has a chance to be as good.

McCants must not be traded. If anything trade Jacobs or russell who haven't done crap.
