Next week, the Lions will come to Fed Ex and face a much more formidable defense in the Redskins.

If we can get a good pass rush and do a decent job on the WRs, we'll be okay.

I do agree, however, that 20 points ain't probably gonna cut it!
yeah tillman, vasher, briggs, AA, i think one other person was out for them....

Mike Brown and Dusty Dvoracek were the others missing. Tommie Harris only saw limited action and Urlacher was playing despite not having practiced all week.

Despite that, they held the Lions to 72 yds at the half and the Lions also coughed the ball up twice and gave up 3 sacks. The Skins D can do similar, I have faith. The Bears D got tired by the end of the game due to the inability of Griese, the lack of a running game and the WRs dropping balls contributing to a lack of drive sustainability. Ooooh, i like that - drive sustainability!

Skins win, I checked the crystal ball.

Hey bearskins,

Can we trade our hardly used reciever (BLoyd) for an kickoff/punt returner, at least for a weekend, we will give him back after the game, and you can keep the reciever.....

one good thing about B Lloyd is that the opposing teams' secondary has little to no film on this guy and he could get a lot of balls thrown at him this weekend - Lloyd is a very talented WR IMO that has just not had the opportunities here the last few weeks and will (hopefully soon) show why we have kept him here

True, true but they have to call plays for him in order to see the talent. One miss-played deep ball and some attitude doesn't mean the guy can't play. This guy has a knack for making outrageous catches. Throw him the ball and give him a chance.

I will say this now and stick by it lose or win for the rest of this season:

THE REDSKINS OFFENSIVE COACHING STAFF NEEDS TO TAKE THE TRAINING WHEELS OFF OF JC, OPEN THE ENTIRE PLAYBOOK, AND RUN PORTIS AND BETTS UNTIL THEIR KNEECAPS EXPLODE. SET A GOAL OF 50/40 EVERY GAME. RUN FIFTY TIMES AND THROW FORTY TIMES, MINIMUM.

BLITZ TAYLOR OR LANDRY OR MCINTOSH AT LEAST ONE - THREE DOWNS A SERIES AND JUST TURN UP THE HEAT ON DEFENSE. IF WE ARE GONNA LOSE ANY MORE GAMES THIS SEASON, LET'S GO DOWN IN A BLAZE OF GLORY......

You're not even making sense. For one thing, most offense rarely get off more than 70 or so plays an entire game, especially if they're "running fifty times" as you wish.

Smoot and Johnson are both nuring injuries and didn't play in the last game.

I know their run game is garbage, but with those kind of receivers who needs a run game??

Why souldn't they be able to cover them the current defensive scheme is designed to prevent plays over 25 yards, Furry and McDonald have one catch each over that mark. If they give up on the run then GW can mix it up with some cover two with the corners tight and Laundry deep with ST and some zone blitzing with Washington on the end ahd Blades filling the LB spot. Either way if they don't atleast try to run Kitna will have a long day.

Lions 35

35 points for the Lions? The Skins give up a average of 16 points per game, I don't see them give up twice that coming off a bye week, and the Lions 28 point per game average is bloated, they put up more than 30 twice this year. Once in week one against the Raiders and Sunday against a beatup and tired Bears team. In both games the defense and specials team scored for them.

20 points for the Skins playing against a team that gives up more than passing yards than anyone in the league after guys like McCown, Jackson and Greise and still manage to allow atleast 100 yards on the ground.

No thanks. We already have a barely used WR (Bradley), a barely used #1 pick TE, a barely used RB, a few barely used brains and a barely used playbook. They all complement our over-used Defense.

Oh contrare monfrare (sp)!! I bet I can go "digging in the crates" and find some games that have had about a 50/40 split or even a 40/40 split of passes to runs.

IMO, if Gibbs allows Al to run the offense the way he wants and takes the training wheels off of JC, this offense is capable of that.

You know, it's like this offense and the players are stuck in the mud so to speak. Meaning, sometimes they appear lost or not very confident with what they are running. I watched the Pats last night and I hate comparing our team to them because of our record over the last few years, but they have a swagger when they come out of the huddle and an air of confidence that they are going to beat you on every play they run. I just don't get that sense from our team. I personally think that we have the most talented team in the league but we just can't seem to show it.

I have a bad feeling about this game. I don't like how it feels like it will be a shoot-out which we don't have the ability to withstand. That daggon Giants game was a killer because it makes games like this too important.

I think that a shoot-out favors us with JC's arm and the speed with got at WR. If the coaching staff instilled confidence in the passing and let loose with it like these two (Gibbs and Saunders) did in their days as assistants in San Diego (Air Coryell), not too many teams would be able to out gun us.

It's like there is this underlying pressure on our offense that if one thing doesn't work, we are stuck. The indecision in who's calling what plays is beginning to show with the play on the field because these guys, appear to me, to be playing without full confidence in what they are doing...

That's why they will win this game. That and the fact DETROIT HAS NEVER WON IN DC!

The last time Gibbs and the Skins played the Lions Brunell threw for 58 yards, Joey Harrington passed for 269 yards, and Az-hakim had 120 yards for the Lions AND the Skins STILL WON!

Gibs has never lost too the Lions.

So what? I think that we are going to win this game but the Lions having never won in DC has no impact whatsoever on this game. How many of the current Lions or Redskins played the last time that Detroit was in DC?

This is a new Lions Team, this team should actually rename themselves, I mean C'mon, Kitna promised 10 games. I wonder if Barry Sanders is contemplating on his "Comeback".

This game is going to be a good game. We need our defense to show it's claws and pick some passes.

What about Landry and Taylor? I mean they usually have deep responsibilities which will help out much. I agree though that we shouldnt take these Lions lightly they are very talented at the passing game.

Lions fans rejoice -- I'm picking the Redskins
by Tom Kowalski
Friday October 05, 2007, 8:14 AM

In a move that will surely have Lions fans cheering from the mountain tops, I'm picking the Redskins to win on Sunday (although, I have been right two of the last three weeks in picking Detroit). Here are a couple of reasons I'm taking the Redskins:

--- The Lions still haven't convinced me they can play with the same intensity and focus on the road.

--- The Redskins have been very good at stopping teams from scoring in the red zone -- the best in the NFL, by the way -- and that's still one of the Lions' biggest problems on offense.

--- Washington has the depth in the secondary to handle the Lions if they go three- and four-wide because they're very solid in their starting four and also have cagey backups in veterans Fred Smoot and David Macklin, who has started almost 70 games in his eight-year career.

--- The Redskins are going to attack the right side of the Lions' offensive line where tackle George Foster has struggled. Coordinator Mike Martz doesn't like keeping tight ends in to block and would rather bench Foster for Jonathan Scott to do so. Also, expect the Redskins to do a fair amount of blitzing in this game -- they like bringing their outside backers -- because they know Jon Kitna is the key to this game.

--- The Lions defense got a break last week when the Bears inexplicably didn't try to use the short passing game to their running backs, especially screens. (Yeah, their backs caught eight passes, but the Bears ran 80 plays). That's going to change this week where you can expect to see a lot of Clinton Portis, whether it's handoffs or catching balls on screens or in the flat.

Looks like they're not very confident up there in Detroit.

The Skins HAVE to pressure Kitna, and the HAVE to nullify Shaun Rogers on the D-line. Keep it simple from there and don't give away silly turnovers and we should see the Skins prevail in this one.

Isn't the title of this thread great?

I mean after all... 4 points 'cut it' today against the Lions.

Two safeties would have beat them... or a safety and a field goal.

Gregg Williams called a gem today.

Man, I couldn't have been more wrong. As it turns out, 17 points would've easily cut it, but it was nice to see the Skins come out of their 2nd half offensive slump in a big way!

I guess the coaching staff read this thread and took it extremely seriously!
