a few comments on JC's 66.3 passer rating.

it is just that; a 'passer' rating. to come up with passer rating, four important passing stats are figured in.... percentage of passes complete, yds gained per attempt, td throws per attempt, and ints per attempt. all of these stats are mixed around, averaged out and rolled into a number (158.3 is perfect).

passer rating, does not however, gauge rushing attempts by qb's, sacks taken/avoided, and other important qb decisions etc. also, passer rating sort of penalizes good decisions by qb's such as throw aways. (they counts as an incomplete pass and affect overall passer rating)

passer rating is important when judging a qb, but is by far not the only thing to look at. it takes more than just the qb doing his job to get a good passer rating. receivers must do their part as well. yards after catch can greatly impact the qb's number.

the only thing that i don't like about JC's passing stats is the int's. gotta cut back on those, but everything else i see, i like.

This forum became focused on the THIRD stat posted. I'm wondering why there have been no comments on the two positive stats posted BEFORE the one stat everyone is commenting on ...

Game 2:

Except for the one big overthrow and the pick I thought JC threw exceptionally well. The deep balls were pretty much perfect. Moss could have run through his catch and scored. He looked a hair upset after he realized it. I've watched it again and again. He didn't have to leave his feet for that catch, he knew it, and I could see it on his face. I wonder what a TD there would have done for QB rating.

ey dropped a picture perfect deep ball. The TD to him was virtually the same perfect throw - in stride over the shoulder between an underneath defender and an over the top defender. I wonder how much more that would've pumped into his rating.

He threw some incredible ropes to the sidelines. A few of his short to mid range passes were a little high but they all hit guys in the hands and all those guys expressed having missed a ball they should've caught. A few more were stone cold drops.

BTW - my ONLY real worry going into the season was offensive line depth with particular worries at left guard and a little less at right tackle. I find it fortuitous we picked up Kendall and amazing we've recovered from the two huge injuries on the right as well as we have. We may have actually improved at right tackle and left guard. I hope our in house replacement and our pick up can hold up at right guard.

Back to JC. His greatest strength may be his attitude. It's kinda like Jack Nicklaus - don't get too excited after an eagle - don't get too down after a double bogey. Even keel baby - helps you perform under pressure.

The G men have surrendered 40 + twice? to Dallas and GB. We should be good for 24 to 30. Can't we hold them to 20 or fewer at FedEx?

they are nice stats. we need a couple more stats to fall into place, and i would feel very comfortable with this team. mainly turnover ratio, which is directly related to the JC stat at this point. (if it weren't for the interceptions, we wouldn't be on the negative side of the turnover ratio) no team in the league is a consistant winner, without getting this corrected.

One thing I have to comment on....though Fabini and Heyer had good games against the e-girls, we should by no means think that our O-line situation is rock solid. I still have concerns about the O-line and the impact the Jansen/Thomas loss will have on our pass protection. Heyer and Fabini have done well in one game, but we need them to do it for the next 14 games, and that's an awfully tall order to ask of an undrafted rookie and an aging vet who was released by other teams. So, while I'm quietly optimistic that they'll rise to the occasion, I'm not convinced that our O-line has "recovered" from the Jansen/Thomas injuries.

Another thing that I haven't seen about JC is that he throws a bullet the majority of the time. If the ball is underthrown or the receiver outruns his timing, then that ball is going to be quite difficult to catch. There was one ball over the middle in week one that Moss missed that sticks out to me that is a perfect example. JC needs to put a little less zip on some of those balls and make 'em a LITTLE bit receiver friendly.

I will take his passer rating for his performance. Some of those passes were absoulutely sublime. He has great touch for a man with such a big arm.

What he does lack is a little of the confidence that a few games will take care of. Trusting his receivers to be in position when the ball gets there. He held on to a couple for a half second to long on occasion and allowed the defense to adjust.

i love his attitude, he just gets on with it and seems to have a great QB memory. He puts the bad stuff behind him.

I agree. I think the only reason his passer rating is low is because of the INTs vs TDs. I think he's already impoved his INTs. His rating will go up as the season goes on.

Here is a stat that reflects how he has played. Of the QBs that have thrown more than 10 passes, JC ranks 6th in the NFL with a 8.7 yard/attempt average.

Here's another one 2-0.

Tied for eight for the number of times sacked, 3.

#1 in rushing average for QB and #2 in total yards rushing (behind Vince Young).

The team is #1 in the NFL on 3rd downs.

The team is #4 in rushing (JC's yards/competion % has a lot to do with that)

The stats are fine. The QB rating which was developed to grade a QBs carreer instead of a game or two isn't very good, but the rest of the stats are very good!

Bottom line we are winning.

More than Zero, and that is too many. I think Sean figured out that you have to commit all of your assaults in the field of play.

JC so far as are starter is 4-5 in winning games so far.

But by this easy Sunday win he well get us at 3-0 and tie it up with his win and loss records.

But I see him trowing no INT this sunday and trowing for 2 TD.

Jason has played well. The INT's bring his rating down, but those are mistakes you expect from a guy with 9 starts. Thats less than a full season.

He also has veteran like poise in the pocket. He reads the field well, and as shown on the MNF broadcast, he can look off defenders with his eyes and come back to another receiver.

He is accurate at times, and sometimes a liitle high, but 1) he will get better as he plays more with our guys, and 2) we have some of the shortest wideouts in the league...so missing high isn't that hard to do.

THIS STAT HAS NEVER BEEN SO TRUE AFTER TODAY!!!!!!
