Your post might be clever and witty if this story was actually in the national media. But it isn't. It gets just about as much attention on FOX and CNN as it does on here. And BTW...I had heard of it before this thread...being that I'm a defense attorney.

BTW...I didn't say "ALL" Christians and Humanitarians. When someone says something that doesn't apply to you, then you shouldn't be upset by it.

I'm upset by any generalization that isn't accurate, especially when it's dragging a large group of people through the mud. Your claim was that because many Christians and humanitarians are focused on their own priorities, it follows that they think the black kids going to prison is just. When someone called you out on it, your response was "well at least I'm on here typing about it, to look at the other members here they don't care [because they aren't in this thread expressing anger]." I just didn't see the warrant for any of it; that's all.

Okay. Well I think that it goes without saying that this site is not the pulse of American politics, and I never was trying to say anything about "all" christians or humanitarians...

Its a cycle. The media doesn't show these kinds of stories because they don't hold the ratings as well as the "Astronaut Lady" or some celeb DUI. Maybe if the stories got more publicity, then more people would be more aware, care more, and try to affect change. But if it doesn't draw ratings, it doens't get much attention on the show....etc...etc.

Sadly the idea of the "NEWS" is gone. Its all about what is the hottest story.

I'd have to agree that I think it's utter bull how I've seen Michael Vick on the cover of every paper for 3 weeks straight and this gets a blurb here or there...

I agree with this entirely. (Although, I have to point out that Christians and humanitarians have little to do with this being the case, and if any generalization is true it is that Christians and humanitarians resent this aspect of the mainstream media. )

I agree and I suggest that this should been seen at an even larger scale. Not only is a story about kids being mistreated by other students and the school authorities completely ignored. . .how often do we hear about newsworthy items that occur outside of our own borders (for example)?

I'm not one to be cynical and blame 'the media' for some evil agenda; I really think that they are out to make money and that they've gotten quite good at doing it. Part of that involves leaving behind things that are more valuable and focusing on what crazy antics the celebrities are up to. The current reality is that if one wants real news stories then one has to go somewhere other than CNN, Fox News, any of the big three network programs, or MSNBC, etc. etc.

And, honestly, that doesn't bother me, because it's not hard to ignore the talking heads and find some good alternative sources. The good news about our times is that consumer choice grows every moment, even as the status quo grows more stale.

Then again, I also don't think that this phenomenon is new to our age whatsoever. See Thomas Jefferson's quote on newspapers: "I do not take a single newspaper, nor read one a month, and I feel myself infinitely the happier for it."; and "The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers."

I agree wholeheartedly. Aren't you a little disturbed by the television news media today though? It's become so sensationalistic that it really can't be considered the 'News".

I mean, after day 35 of the girl gone missing in Aruba...it isn't "new" anymore is it?

After the 4th DUI it isn't really "new" if Lindsay or Paris have problems.

When you turn on 'legit news shows' they even lead in with "Happening Now: Paris Hilton leaves Rehab"..gasp.

There have been elements of sensationalism for years, but the programming is getting worse. When I was a kid ( in the 80's)...the news was still "boring" because thats what it's supposed to be. Back then shows like Entertainment Tonite, and Extra took care of the Celeb News....now Fox / CNN and the others do it just as much.

When you pick up the Washington Post and it looks like the National Enquirer..its a sad day in America, and it comes at the expense of the Jena Six where more media attention could pressure the system into admineristing justice down there.

Just dissapointing.

Oh, and I don't read the paper ...I read the sports page though.
