Terrence Newman wasn't a Redskin
Some would say neither was Deon.
but he really was for 2 years and played with DG here

Deion's glory days was with the Pies, yet he still sees enough in CR to help him out. That's pretty nice on Prime Time's part, wouldn't you agree?
Plus, isn't he still somehow on the Skins payroll?

Rod Woodson! He is by far the best DB not just corner of the 80s, 90, and this decade.
By far?
Hi, my name is Ronnie Lott, and I'd like to disagree with that statement. 10 Probowls. All Pro at FS, SS and CB.
Yeah...
I thought about Lott when I wrote that and he was the only guy that came close. Not Prime Time and not Green (as much as it hurts to say - Green was better than PT though).
Rod had more sacks, INTs, TDs, return yards, and probaly more pass defenses and tackles than Lott. I can't find the tackles for Lott but Rod had 1163 and PD wasn't a stat kept by the NFL prior to 88 (a shame, because that is one of the best indicators of how good a DB is).
I would say Rod was better, but won't argue too hard against Lott!

You really can't use career statistics as an argument when Lott played 14 seasons, and Woodson played 17. 3 full seasons is a heck of a lot. I mean hell, Lott had 63 interceptions, while Woodson only had 8 more, playing 3 more seasons.
Actually, Lott's 10 pro bowls in 14 seasons imho is more impressive than 11 in 17.
According to wiki, Lott was ranked by Sporting News as the 23rd best football player of all time, Woodson as the 87th. For whatever the heck that's worth.
I just know when Ronnie Lott patrolled the secondary, wideouts honestly feared going across the middle. You didn't get that same feeling from Rod Woodson, good as he was.
The archetypal anecdote about Ronnie Lott recounts the time, late in the 1985 season, when doctors recommended surgery to repair the tip of his left pinky finger. The 49ers' star defensive back didn't want to miss any playing time in recuperation, so he chose a simpler procedure. He had the finger amputated above the third knuckle. He didn't miss a down.
"Yeah! I shut down Randy Moss in one game. Well, okay, for a half. And yes, it was the game Randy walked out on his team during, so I know he wasn't playing hard at all.
But I shut him down! Anyways, now I have a great new job.

There were times when teams would just ignore the side that Deion was on. He wasnt much of a tackler but no one would dare throw to his side.
Darrell Green is also amongst the best of all time and arguable the best overall corner of all time. Numerous fastest man in the league. Multi Superbowl winner.
These are two of the best and it is a good thing that they are helping out Carlos Rogers.
Finally, a point HAMO and I can agree completely on. In his prime, Deion, love him or hate him, was peerless as a pure cover corner. For most quarterbacks, his side of the field simply did not exist, as was the case for much of DG's career.
He is also known to be an excellent teacher. The haters need to spend some time watching film. Fortunately, I don't think Carlos was asking him for help with tackling or run defense.

I doubt most of our DBs last year could cover a one legged midget.

If Carlos R. is getting off-season coaching, that says great things about him. And I don't care if it's Darrell Green, who learned to be a great CB after being merely a fast CB, or an older guy like Pat Fischer or a coach who never made the NFL at any position. (What position did Joe Gibbs play??? I remember Hanifan as an OL, but not Joe Bugel. Still, I wouldn't pick one over the other.)
[Wasn't Ronnie Lott a safety? Agreed, Woodson and Green were the best CB's of their time.]
By the way, where is Gambit, and where is Drew Henson?

Then let's go back a bit. If Carlos R has gotten himself off-season coaching (forgetting Sanders), the that says great things about him. He wants to improve.
That is a Joe Gibbs player. (Was Mark Rypien a star from the git-go? Nope. He had a dreadful tendency to fumble when hit from behind. Gibbs gave the job to Stan Humphries during the '91 off-season. Rypien worked out, learned the play-book, and Humphries got fat. Who went to Disneyland after SB 26?)

PulpEx,
Look I will give you Lott was better, I still think it was Rod, but it isn't worth arguing the point, but what I can say is Rod was the best CB I have ever seen play and when I started watching football, Bert Jones was the new QB of the Baltimore Colts.

Hey man, it's just opinions, nothing more. I wasn't really contesting your statement that you thought he was the best...just that you thought he was the best and no one was close...
By the way, I think you started watching football the year I was born. And I'm getting older. Which means you are an....
