sorry, didnt mean to say "if portis gets hurt" without knocking on wood. i am a HUGE portis supporter and definately dont want anything to happen to him, i thnk hes one of the best backs in the league. the guys is awesome. i was just stating it for something to keep an eye on this year. it could get interesting, we seem to be big on reuniting coaches and players.
skinsfanpsu wrote:we wouldnt trade for johnson, it wouldnt make any sense. he is scheduled to be a free agent next year accorging to pro football talk. maybe we look at him next year if something happens to portis. he is a beast of a back and would do really well in our system with our O-line. He will probably not have very good numbers this year, and the chiefs are going to be terrible and have lost all of their high profile lineman.
Here was the rationale....
1. The Skins are a little worried about Clintons shoulder.
2. The deal would be contingent on LJ signing a long term deal (They feel they can get much better value now than if they let him actually become an FA and let him test the waters)
3. The cap hit would actually be LESS than Clintons number + the #6 pick overall.
4. Lastly, LJ is better and has MUCH fewer miles on his tires.

..1st off where did anyone ACTUALY read anything with Portis' name or the Redskins name in any of these links because I read them and saw nothing so unless someone has information that I dont know about you all are just spreading more rumors... and why would we give up our #6 pick for ANOTHER back.. LJ is used to being a everydown back and has been a complainer he wouldnt want to come here and share the rock with Ladell witch CP doesnt mind.. and you can argue that LJ is better based off a year and half but he hasnt consistently done what Portis has.. and after one more season of over 400 carries I wouldnt say he has MUCH fewer miles at all.. Herm is gonna run LJ into the ground.. remember Jamaal Anderson? he was great for a couple seasons but after 2 straight 400 carry seasons he broke down.. LJ is good yes but is he worth CP and our 1st rounder? I say no .. and Lastly as far as I've seen Portis' shoulder is healing fine.. no complications no set backs.. 1st time he's had a shoulder injury so wheres the concern? his should has never been a constant issue

You are correct- these links are only about how KC is thinking about trading some players, including Larry Johnson.
While this is right now just "rumor/speculation" (which I said in my origional post) I guess I would qualify it more as "informed speculation".
The friend I heard it from has a family member who used to work with Comcast sportsnet and who still has contacts there.
This SAME person called the Portis/Bailey trade from Denver a few years back 2-3 days before ANY media outlet had it. (Personally I'd call it "pillow talk" if you catch my drift.)

Purely speculative, not gonna happen
I'm impressed, this "rumor" is as stupid as the trade up for Russell one. I didn't think that could be matched. I stand corrected.
Hail to the Redskins!

well I heard from a guy walking past me that he knows a bus driver who knows another bus driver who has a friend thats a family member of a redskins fan that knows a janitor at a school who knows a janitor at comcast that says the guy spreading this rumor is full of it
I know a guy that said he saw Elvis in a movie theatre! And that guy said that Kansas City won't do this trade unless we package Jason Campbell in it too!!!
The rational is simple.........
1. LJ can carry the ball four hundred times a season.
2. LJ almost racked up a 2,000 yard season under Al Saunders offense AFTER half the season had gone by!!!
LJ had Roaf and Shields.. blocking for him that year too and virtualy no tape on him yet.. granted last year he was good as well.. his TDs were down and his yards per carry were down.. and the 400 times a season deal doesnt mean anything other then your taking seasons away from him.. in the NFL you cant carry the ball 400 times a season for 10 straight years.. just doesnt happen.. so we would get what one 400 carry season from him before he broke down and we were stuck with him

There's a substantial number of NFL runningbacks whose career went in the toilet after logging seasons near 400 carries.

Jamal Anderson, Jamal Lewis, Terrell Davis, etc.
exactly my point
I know...I was reemphasizing it...
Are you two done or do I need to come back later?
Come back later, please! And while you're at it, please bring back that uber-cynicism from January and February that you've recently lost. I miss all of that soul-crushing angst.

Be sure to be here for the draft, it could possibly get ugly in here.
That better not be true! That's got to be one of the worst trades ever!
Johnson is on the block because his contract allows him to void the last two years on the deal, making this the last year. They are trying to get something before they lose him. With two backs under comtract for the next few years the best the Cheifs could hope for form the Skins is a 3rd round pick (which they don't currently have).
This wasn't even a bad rumor

When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hold on....
Being in Chiefs territory, I feel the need to weigh in.
First, LJ's attitude (and no other reason) is why the Chiefs are looking to trade him. He's does not (refuses to) block. He blames his teammates for losses. And he openly blames the coaches when things aren't going the way he wants them to.
It doesn't make it onto Sportscenter because this is just the KC media market, not NYC. Think about it, are you familiar with anything a KC athlete has told the media since Hal McRae's blow-up in the mid-90s?
With the Chiefs looking at rebuilding next year (with or without him), they figure they might as well just relieve themselves of the headache and fix a few other areas while they are it. Plus, with Roaf gone, Shields retiring, and Waters coming off an off-year, they're not looking at much success running the ball next year no matter who is in the backfield.
All that said, odds are strong that LJ will be a chief next year. Nobody out here thinks the Chefs will be able to get anywhere near equal value in a trade. Nothing with the skins has even been remotely mentioned.
Nice and informed post. Keep them coming. It is the offseason and almost any rumour will involve the Skins and make it to this board.
