What are you referring to exactly? Have we budged so far from our original offer? I haven't heard that, I have only heard we made an offer and nothing since.

what i worry about is the fact we showed our hand already.. while it was never a secret we were looking to trade out of the 6 spot we could have kept everyone guessing and posturing to get our pick.. we had people thinking we might want to move up.. but now by putting that offer for Briggs out there it shows we are willing to get out of that spot for basically nothing.. might hurt the offer another team would give us for the 6th pick
I just don't understand why we are pushing this so much
What are you talking about? Skins made an offer, and said "take it or leave it... give us your answer by close of business Tuesday, or it's history". Hardly sounds like "pushing" it. Sounds more like they have gotten it, and are finally showing some stones.

Just curious how you would propose handling it. If we don't tell them we're willing to trade how would they know we're interested? Why not put an offer out there and leave it while we pursue other options as we have done? We're still hearing discussion over the #6 pick, obviously the Bears know while the offer is on the table we're not holding it for them.

I understand what your saying so I guess the point i was trying to make is why put that offer out so early.. obivously you have to let them know your interested but why not wait until draft day .. no other offers have been made for Briggs so why put it out there so early is my question.. on draft day if no one was offering us anything worth while we could then put in a call to the bears and say hey we will swap spots with you and take briggs off your hands
The bears are retarded for not jumping all over this trade...Lance is never gonna play for them except the last 6 games then he's a FA and they get NOTHING. And here we are OFFERING #6 overall are you kidding! Briggs is great, an all-pro, but in all likelyhood #6 overall is gonna be pretty great himself. I keep hearing "no one wants to pick that high because of the salary" well there is a reason that player will fetch those big dollars...it's because he's good, darn good.
I've been a proponent for getting Briggs becuase I think he rounds our our LB core and the deal still gives us a 1st rounder. However I wouldn't mind picking 6 at all in fact that's the one great thing about all the pain I suffered last year....on draft day we get to be one of the lucky ones! The bears are morons and I'm ashamed we gave them arch for so little, they should have been gratefull, but no they wanna take advantage and play games, after today it's no deal and I hope we either trade up for Calvin, or take Landry or Branch. Any of those three and I'm psyched.
So if the Bears want him soo bad according to Foxsports. If they see potential in this kid. Then why the heck aren't we going to start him? The boy ain't retarded (no offense) so let him earn his stripes on the field. WE AREN'T GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL THIS SEASON so why not let him learn now in preparation for our upcoming appearance?

GREAT SO THEN FREAKING PLAY HIM!!!!! Forgot about this clown Briggs and play this highly coveted rookie that we sold the barn for!!!
Just because the Skins don't want to give Rocky up doesn't mean they think he is the next LT. The mere fact that the Skins made this offer should tell you something about how they are feeling about our current LB core. And they have more insight than we do. They see these guys every day.
How about this? We give the Bears the 6th, Marshall and the apple.
The Bears give us the 31st, Briggs, pay for Briggs' extension and play our games for us on the "D" side of the ball, plus Special Teams.
Deal?
I can't say I blame Chicago for all this garbage. Clearly, we've got a reputation for giving up far more than we're getting.
I don't know if we've developed a sudden case of the smarts, or if the FO thinks they've addressed the need by signing Fletcher.

This was only going to happen IF we could make the deal as originally offered - Gibbs and Williams were never going to give up what we had - (unless they had asked for Brunell) BUT a lot of people got all bent out of shape about nothing - c'mon people! this is the season of posturing and pretending - I know Gibbs and our FO have not done well in years past but that does not mean they have to continue to make stupid mistakes. The only people who are stupid IMO are those that think Gibbs does not learn from these mistakes.
Gibbs and Williams are going to show a lot of people both here and around the NFL why they are 2 of the best coaches in the NFL.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Agreed I have been dying to see Mcintosh Start!! Enough grooming. Just throw the kid in the fire he will survive and become a better player.
By Howard Bryant Washington Post Staff Writer Wednesday, April 4, 2007; Page E03
The Washington Redskins' refusal to part with Rocky McIntosh may have stalled the team's proposed trade with Chicago for linebacker Lance Briggs, but at the same time sent the strongest signal yet that the 24-year-old linebacker may be an important part of the team's long-term plan after all.
The Redskins offered their sixth overall pick in the April 28-29 draft for Briggs and Chicago's 31st pick; the Bears countered by asking that McIntosh be part of the deal.
During a season that spiraled toward a 5-11 finish, the Redskins learned about two young players, but its players and fans were confused about McIntosh. Quarterback Jason Campbell replaced Mark Brunell on Nov. 19, and though he compiled a 2-5 record as a starter, he was named the No. 1 quarterback. Rookie defensive tackle Kedric Golston was the surprise player, a fifth-round pick playing his way into the starting lineup, beating out veteran tackle Joe Salave'a.
But while the Redskins struggled on defense, especially on the weak side against the run and the pass, McIntosh could not find his way onto the field with the regular defensive unit. His inability to supplant Warrick Holdman as the starting weak-side linebacker seemed to suggest McIntosh perhaps was not the player the Redskins believed they had when they traded two picks to the New York Jets to acquire him in last year's draft.
While McIntosh played consistently on special teams, defensive players privately expressed surprise and some degree of confusion that McIntosh did not start more until he started Dec. 24 at St. Louis. When the season ended, the firing of linebackers coach Dale Lindsey was seen as another repudiation of his teaching, McIntosh's readiness, or both.
But when the Redskins approached Chicago last week about acquiring Briggs, their unwillingness to trade an unproven player who did not participate virtually at all in the base package for a player who has earned a Pro Bowl berth in consecutive seasons may have provided a hint of their view of McIntosh's potential.
The Bears have long thought McIntosh to be a top-notch player. Before last year's draft, McIntosh was coveted by Chicago, which listed him high on its draft board.
"They asked about McIntosh. He was definitely part of the deal they wanted," said a league source, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of negotiations. "But it was more a part of the negotiation than a line in the sand."
But talks with the Bears may not be dead, and, while the Redskins rejected adding McIntosh, it was Washington that initiated talks with the Bears. Chicago could offer a more attractive package or accept the Redskins' initial offer if they are able to work out a secondary deal to trade the sixth pick to another team.
It may take a little more time for Rocky to develop into an absolute stud on defense, but at least the team shows faith in him. I'm really glad they do not want to part with him. I never thought they would give up Rocky. You never know, he may come out this year and just light it up on defense.
The Redskins need to put faith in this kid and play him. If he was as bad they made him out to be they would have traded him.
That in itself makes this trade reek of greed and just wanting a shiny new toy to me. 2007 is not a super bowl year for us. This is a rebuilding year, so lets make the most out of it and let the boy earn his stripes so that he'll be ready when the time comes.
Don't let him sit until 2 years before his contract his up. Then he lights the world on fire and then the F/O won't want to resign him. Don't let this turn into Antonio Pierce all over again.
Chris Luva Luva wrote:The Redskins need to put faith in this kid and play him. If he was as bad they made him out to be they would have traded him.
They fired Dale Lindsey instead. I think that article from the Post suggested that they DO have faith in him.
Then they need to play him. They need to turn him into Lance Briggs. Over the next 2 years build a d-line that can keep him clean. Build a line that can allow him to use that physical ability that the Bears covet about him.
And if Rocky gets a big head and wants to leave after a while, thats fine. Pimp him to a stupid F/O or use our amazing scouting dept to find a suitable replacement. (last paragraph is wishful thinking)
