After last year, every Redskins fan was calling for his head because he did terribly and obviously didn't play up to his huge contract.

Speak for yourself. Generalizations will get you into trouble. I have consistenly maintained that AA was not used in a manner that played to his strengths. Loosing Prioleau changed everything, and forced Williams to use him as an all purpose safety, when he needed to be playing up all along.

It seems that this will work out for everyone. I'm pleased.

Yeah he was never going to fit in here, especially with his history with the coaches.

I'm just happy we got anything for him.

Good luck to AA. Something tells me we're going to be seeing him all over the field in '07, wondering where the heck his skills were while he was here.
That sixth round pick will come in handy for us.

If it means the end of Mike Brown in a Bears jersey then I'll be a sad man. However, that article mentions AA averaging $2.7m a year for the Bears which seems pretty reasonable.

His cap hit this year would have been about $2.4m in 2007 if he were a Redskin (before you account for the $5m bonus that we no longer have to pay). So basically his original deal with the Skins was cut in half, he got his signing bonus last year, we get a late round pick, the Bears pick up the $5m due and the Skins save future cap space.

Speaking of cap space and not seeing any real details it looks like the Skins just dumped a $30m contract and the cap number only goes up about $1.6m...

This is a good trade under the circumstances, but it begs the question of how we got into these circumstances to begin with. We need a real GM.

I wish AA the best in Chicago. I think it is terrible that the team offered him a big contract and then never made a serious attempt to adjust the scheme to bring out his strengths and cover his weaknesses. Obviously Lovie Smith was able to do that, which is why we were willing to pay the big bucks to get him.

Don't pencil him in as a starter just yet. Bringing Springs over to safety has been a recurring theme lately, and I like it. Putting Stoutmire in on dimes sounds good, too...but not too much.

Yeah I hear ya. I just dont think Stoutmire is all that great. He is solid but is older now.

Now that AA is gone I am hoping we draft a strong safety. I am thinking Laron Landry. If a scenerio plays out where we trade down and aquire a late 1st rounder and a second or third round pick. I would seriously consider drafting Laron Landry. The guy is like a faster Sean Taylor. We would have the best safety tandem in the league. With the second or third round pick we aquire I would then draft a Defensive lineman.

Since AA is gone we will have a big hole there I now change my mind and wouldnt mind us drafting Laron Landry if we trade down,which is a big possibility due to the lack of picks we have this year.

Right on brother! The Vinny has to go. Did anyone here think AA deserved to be the highest paid safety in the NFL, even when the deal was signed? I mean, what was the front office thinking on this one?

I dont think we can trade down much and still get Landry. After his workouts, I think he is currently projected to go around 10.

Right now I think DL is our biggest need, and could pay more immediate dividends than help in the secondary. I would try and trade down and draft whoever is left at DL - Carricker, Branch (who's stock I hear is falling), Jarvis Moss, Tank Tyler, etc.

The coaches plan fell through.
The franchise used him as a scapegoat.
They couldn't use him properly.

Vinny isn't the ONLY problem we need to take the GM power away from the coaches. It's clear that our coaches are not able to judge talent and how that talent will perform on this squad.

I've been reading that Mike Brown who when healthy is like the 3rd best player on the defense may get cut eventually. He's had the injury bug.... He may be someone to keep an eye on with AA's departure.

I didn't say we should get him. I'd imagine that the Skins will look to add another safety especially since GW uses them in place of CB's at times. I'm just saying that if he is released that he'd be a possible candidate that they'd look at.

Wait... Which Stoutmire? Only Redskin Stoutmire I know of was Omar Stoutmire and he left last off-season.

Anyways, on topic... Some people are forgeting about Pierson Prioleau. He can help us a lot. Plus, Vernon Fox has some speed.

Prioleau is a question mark until he plays... We don't know how well he'll bounce back and he could have a set back if he pushes too hard. We definitely need to over plan and pick up another saftey somewhere.

I guess he will go back to pro-bowl caliber now that he leaves us just like many others before and after they leave the skins but not with us. This front office is so far Fubar'd its unbelievable though. I really hope that rumor is true that we are cleaning out the front office after the draft. I'm really getting sick of their crap. Vinny is a huge tool that couldn't run a lemonade stand.

EDIT: Does this open the door for moving Springs to safety and trying to work something out with Denver for Bly?

Obviously a cap move, but my question is we brought him in for a reason and he didnt work out, why wouldnt we give it another year, is it Artuleta or Williams being the problem here, The Bears take on 8 mill over 3 years which is reasonable, but why does Lovie Smith think he will be good, if he was so bad in 06.
