The coin is still in the air but for the first time in a long while Cerrato's future or lack thereof with the team is being -considered-. That is why I am in the middle full political campaign here and elsewhere.

Redskins changes

The rumor has been circulating for more than a month now that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder plans to hire a new personnel director to work with head coach Joe Gibbs after the draft. Bobby DePaul, Jerry Angelo’s right-hand man in Chicago, has been mentioned the most because he and Gibbs are friendly and could work together.

I am so tired of J Lac's constant nagging about the front office structure. Beat another horse! Half the league is 8-8 or worse every year. Those teams have GMs. GMs are not the Wizard of Oz. They are employees just like Vinny who answer to their boss. Geez, dude. Come up with a new angle! Maybe blame beat writers who write the same story every week - for years? Bring back Tom Friend - at least he can report and broke a huge, relevant story right under J Lac's nose. Sorry for the rant guys and girls.

Redskins To Fire Cerrato After Draft?
2007/04/28

Hat tip: Hogshaven

There are rumblings that Red skins VP of football operations Vinny Cerrato [the confused dude to the right] will be fired sometime after this weekend's draft. From ... of all places ... Philly.com:

"When you are picking sixth, the biggest thing you do not want to do is draft based on need and take someone that is not worthy of that pick," said Redskins player personnel chief, who is expected to get his long-overdue walking papers from owner after the draft. "What you want to take at the sixth pick is someone that has Pro Bowl potential." Wow, how profound!

Cerrato has been hounded as being owner Daniel Snyder's lapdog and yes-man ... especially after then-coach Marty Schottenheimer fired Cerrato in 2001 only to see Snyder fire Marty and rehire Vinny one year later. Not just that, but he seems to go with Snyder's whims instead of trying to block them. That's why the Skins seemingly overpay for every free agent and acquiring every draft pick. Remember that we used our 3rd round pick this year to trade for TJ Duckett ... who barely played last year and is now an ex-Redskin.

My question is: Why is Cerrato still having any input on this draft? During his reign here, the Redskins have had the least amount of draft picks as anyone and are known more for selling it's draft picks away for crap than making big splashes. When Cerrato was the player personnel director in San Francisco [which he famously flaunts his Super Bowl r ing from], he was the one who pushed the Niners to use a #17 pick on Jim Drunkenmiller ... a QB that was dumped just two years later.
