As far as Davis goes, I love his size but like others have said... the negatives seem to outweigh the positives. The last thing we need is an unmotivated player. Especially on the offensive line.

Signing davis is a waste of time. He dogs it every chance he gets. There is a reason Arizona's O-line was the worst and Davis is part of that reason. I say NO! NO! NO! x 1,000,000. Most of tha sacks/hits that Leinart took were thought Davis.

I just don't want Campbell getting hurt because Davis can't block the moster dlineman in the NFC east.

If I played in Arizona, I'd be "unmotivated" to. But if there is a couple of guys who can coach up and motivate an offensive line, it's Gibbs and Bugel.

For the kind of money he's asking for, I don't want to pay a project.

Just ran into him as Jason Campbell was taking the big man to lunch. Davis seems likea cool, laid back cat. Said it's down to the Redskins and Dallas, where he visited yesterday. Said the Cowboys did not make a firm offer but they talked about parameters. Has no other visits planned.

"I might make a decision this evening," Davis said. "I've just got to talk to my agent and talk to my wife ... It's all up in the air right now."

Davis said he had good meetings with Buges, Coach Joe, The Snyder (he didn't call them by those names of course, but you get the drift).

"This is my top two," Davis said of the Skins and Cowboys. He also said he wants to play here because "this organization "is committed winning." Yeah, that's what everyone says. Not sure if winning and spending are one and the same, but you get the idea. These guys clearly want to try to win in the way they want to win, but there remain caveats galore when you throw out big free agent bucks.

As for the wild spending in this free agent market, Davis said: "Nothing surprises me."

DAVIS WANTS BIG MONEY

Word on the NFL street is that free-agent offensive lineman Leonard "Big" Davis, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2001 draft, is looking for $23 million in guaranteed money.
We're told that the request was made during a visit by Davis to the Cowboys.

Consequently, the visit was a short one.

Hey, if the guy was that good, the Cardinals' line wouldn't have been so bad. And the Cards would have used some of their staggering cap surplus to keep him.

Next up for Davis is the Redskins. But if they weren't ready to pay Derrick Dockery, why would they pay Davis?

Uhhh...I think he was stoned. I mean, he did say 'JC' was taking him to get something to eat. I think he just had the munchies... and that can be rather distracting for a guy of that size. Probably off to 7-11 for a slurpee and a Jamacan beef patty.

I really don't think I have anything worthwhile to say about Mr Davis' family history (although it does suggest that neither of his parents have spent much time with their clothes on ).

As to his value as a player? Well, it certainly doesn't equate to $20m+ of guaranteed money, and it's hard to believe that anybody would consider paying that sort of money for somebody who just hasn't shown the league much yet. I'm really not sure why the Redskins are even spending any time on the guy, unless the stories are way off the mark, and he'd really be satisfied with $5m guaranteed and a 5 year contract worth no more than $15m. Call me crazy, but a starting guard is really not worth any more than that, unless he's demonstrated his worth in this league.

Move on - let's take a look at some affordable options.

One final question - how did Davis manage to get so big, when his rumoured contract demands suggest that he spends most of his life with his head up his own rear end?

I think frankcal20 implied that Davis ate some of his half-siblings. That'll probably tack on a few pounds for you...cube steak usually comes with a nice white sausage gravy.

Good. He only used us (Jason Campbell) for a $100 lunch and a big dinner.

Better for dallas to overpay for him than us.

It never made sense. I liked Dock but didn't think he was worth the money he got or that guard is where to spend that much money in the cap era.

Why let him go and then sign a guy who's been a disappointment at tackle and we are planning to convert to guard and see how he does just a little less?

I've been saying the front office makes mistakes but they've learned and not gotten credit for moves they have gotten, but if they had rightly passed on Dock then paniced and blew their wad on a poorer replacement I'd be with the bashers.

Fortunately it looks like they're not. The only way I see signing Davis is if he hangs in free agency and dramatically drops his asking price.

My sentiments exactly!

I wonder now if Joe Thomas would be selected if somehow he were to fall to us. Probably won't fall so its not worth considering. But we have a thin offensive line that needs to be addressed along with the defensive line.

2. The Leonard Davis drama was the best of the weekend. Davis, a native Texan, wanted to sign with the Cowboys so his parents could see him play. They live a little more than an hour from Dallas. But the Redskins wooed him, and he was intrigued. Pressed by the Cowboys on Friday night for a figure that would prevent him from making the trip to Washington, Davis asked for $24 million in guarantees. Once he got to Washington, Davis' wife kept calling and telling him the wisdom of signing in Dallas so his parents could see him. He signed a staggering seven-year, $49.6 million deal with Dallas that included $18.7 million in guarantees. The Redskins weren't going to go that high. The Giants might have gone higher to make him their left tackle. Davis will play right guard or right tackle for the Cowboys.
