Try Washington Senators or Washington Federals. Red White and Blue.
on the topic that this stupid thread was started. But I agree To heck with the PC Police. They need to go away.

Washington(, Maryland, Virginia Beltway) Braves (back to their less offensive, but the Injins would still object, original name) The Uni doesn't change. And we tell MLB to pack sand, I mean the Altanta Brave had over 70 years when we weren't using the name to win Championship, well did they. Redskins 5 NFL Championships, Atlanta Brave?

First, I am 100% Native American but I gotta tell you that if it means those things, I am impressed! I may have a problem qualifying according to some people. Let's see, because of my profession most peoples definition I could not possibly be brave since my skill is hiding behind a law book and knifing you in the back with it (blunt trauma). I have no leadership skills since I am always sneaking around behind the scenes. Aw, but I do have the ability to survive. I have been shot at twice in my life and they missed both times and oh yes, and I can run like anything!!!! LOL
Seriously, the name thing will be decided by the courts. Our (yours or mine) opinions don't really count for anything. I have been called a lot worse things that have nothing to do with my ancestry.

The term "Redskin" was not perceived as racist until white PC people started telling the Native American community to think of it as racist. Even with all the PC conditioning, the vast majority of Native Americans do not see the issue the way the white PC folks want them to see it.
I would only support a name change if they changed to the "Hogs"

How about renaming them the Washington Politicians-Lobbysts? The logo can be a politician with his hand behind his back and a lobbiyist behind him putting money in it? Or The Washington Monuments? The logo could be a (how high it the Monument?) foot phalanx with 4 sides? or how about The Washington Wimps? The colors could be pink and pale blue? Every player would be mean and tough trying to prove he wasn't one.
I know, let's call them the Washington Cherry Blossoms. We would win every game because the other team would be laughing so hard they wouldn't be able to stand up.

Actually the term redskin (not capitalized) was a name for an indian in western times. It referred to the color of their skin. It was popularized by Hollywood in western movies where indians were portrayed as blood thirsty, murdering bands of savages intent on killing and torturing the settlers. Blame Hollywood for the perception of the term.
I think that the "Boston Redskins" were "inspired" by the NL Boston Braves.
Yes, before they went to Milwaukee before they moved to Atlanta, they were Boston's National League team.
Many of the old NFL teams named themselves something close to their baseball counterparts. A Brooklyn Dodgers...Giants...Cubs/Bears. The NFL was a small-time business that needed to cling to any public mental-association to stay afloat.
Why was there a Boston Braves? My guess -- only a guess -- is that the Braves were named after the Sons of Liberty who disguised themslves as Indians and dumped all that tea into Boston harbor.
Just a hunch...

Actually the etymology of the word isn't entirely clear, Merriam Webster and the Oxford English Dictionary differ as to where it originated and whether it was meant to be offensive.

Tell that to the NCAA. They just stripped the Illini of their Chief based on this kind of PC BS. Worst thing is, even most native Americans agree with you, it's just a vocal, unelected PC minority that is pushing this nonsense.

To be honest, that Chief Illiniwek dance thing was embarrassing and cheezy. The only thing more embarrassing and cheezy was the outcry against it by the students. As a Brit, I have to admit to being clueless as to this whole aspect of sports. I think most Brits view mascots/dancing as unnecessary and daft. UKSkinsFan, what says you?

The only time mascots are in any way entertaining is when they go bad, and start fighting each other. Call me childish, but I still think there's something amusing about a man in a shark outfit trading punches with a 9 foot octopus.
Chief Williwonka, or whatever his name is, would probably get knocked unconscious by a well aimed pork pie from row 12 if he tried his dancing antics at Withdean on a Saturday afternoon.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I've heard Frank Herzog say "Touchdown, Washington Redskins!" too many times to want to see it changed. But it is only a name (stands back in anticipation of backlash), and at this point, I'm probably far more bothered about the Redskins' win/loss record, than I am about the name.

That maybe the first time a Brit has ever said that Yanks have good tea!

Well Danny boy could afford to pay off an annual lawsuit every year to keep the name if it ever came down to it.
Or since there aren't many left (I being one)anymore, buy them off one by one.
I could always use the money.
ON A SERIOUS NOTE:
But I love my team, and I do not take any offense to the name. Listen to our theme song. It gives me pride to be a native american, a real Redskin.
My father was full blooded, I am 1/2, and Woody Page yesterday was claiminghow he was part Cherokee, and he took offence to all of the Native American mascots.
Dude you are as white as they come.....Maybe, just Maybe your great great grandmother got it on with my great great grandfather, but I doubt it.
He just likes to hear himself speak.
