You have to excuse them, they're not used to rookies getting playing time...or used to have rookies at all. It's a foreign concept.

Now this is funny. I have argued with people who say rookies are "rotting" and doing nothing, but the fact is they RARELY play for us.

It doesn't really dispute that RC is (apparently) getting replaced by a rookie and his backup after signing starter money and Pittsburgh would eat cap to do it, but it's well stated.

Rumors are great, if nothing else fun to laugh at.

I heard Arrington gave Williams a big hug and wants to come back. ha

Depends on who dropped the dime

KazooSkinsFan wrote:How much did we offer? Was it a lot less or a little? How do you know, I have seen nothing that specific reported, only that he left for more money.

Clark told the team repeatedly that he would immediately sign, at any point, for $1.5 mil bonus on a four year deal worth a maximum, yes, that's maximum, of $5.8 million, according to sources.

KazooSkinsFan wrote:I'm not dissing him, only saying I don't understand how he has hit cult status.

You'll have to get with the cultist on that one, I'm just saying he was a player that left and it hurt, getting him back would be a plus. Partly because of his relationship with Taylor but the kid can hit :D

FYI: You can check out this thread, it's all that's been written about the Clark negotiations. Besides the Redskins denying it's accuracy

And yet, Pittsburgh is contemplating cutting him.

This one is beneath you. It is pointless and I have addressed this several times. I am not BLASTING him for leaving, I'm just saying he left for more money. When someone does that you shake their hand and wish them luck. People talk about him being a core Skin and wanting him back and saying he left for $$$$$ is valid to ask why we love the guy so much who left for money without being a criticism. He wants to be here, which means we have to pay what he wants?

1niksder wrote:His signing bonus was less than $2M and if the Steelers let him go they'll eat most of it.

So in rough terms, cap hit this year.
Keep him = $1.25M (salary) + $500K ($2M bonus / 4) = $1.75M
Cut him = $1.5M (dead cap).
So they are cutting him for 250K savings? Great testimony to his skill, NOT.

1niksder wrote:As far as being beaten out for the job, I don't know. He got hurt somebody had to play and they like the guy that was put in while he was down..

He got hurt and they decided the cheaper guys (rookie & backup) who filled in were just as good, and you're "not sure" if that means he was beaten out? Hmmmm.

1niksder wrote:Clark told the team repeatedly that he would immediately sign, at any point, for $1.5 mil bonus on a four year deal worth a maximum, yes, that's maximum, of $5.8 million, according to sources.

OK, I took a look at the link you sent. So he left for $1.75 mil/4 years and is likely to be cut for not being worth it (i.e., they can get the same job done cheaper). He was willing to play for us for $1.5 mil/4 years and we should have leapt at that as a great offer. We'll have to differ that was a no brainer that not being worth 1.75 made him a steal at 1.5. And as I said in another forum, we have to know Preileau would go out the first play of the season. Knowing that I MIGHT have paid it, but we didn't.

1niksder wrote:I'd find two million under the cap to bring him back at the drop of a dime.

Let's see, you're still going on about a low level starter who may be cut for not being worth the money they paid and hoping we get him back, but you're not a cultist? Let's see, if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

You're taking this way too personally man. 1nik just stated his opinion on the Clark thing, in a rational, non-confrontational way. The "cultist" thing was accompanied by a smiley. You are looking for an argument where none exists.

I think you were too sensitive. It just baffles me how Clark keeps coming up over and over.

Clark was a fan favorite, he wanted to be here and the players wanted him to be here... that might be a reason he comes up.

OR

It could be that he came up this time because he was/is at Redskin Park this week.

Regardless of the reason, it starts the same debate everytime. For some reason AA didn't spill into this one and Lavar, Smoot, and AP also took a pass.

Clark being on the market is only a rumor, so who knows what would happen.
For the record Clark didn't ask for a lot and figured he could get a deal by asking for that, it didn't happen. He wanted to see if he could get it somewhere else and went looking. Here is where I differ from others here who would also welcome him back. Most feel the Skins "let" Clark go, I think Clark signed a deal before he gave the team a chance to match it. (unlike Smoot and AP, Clark never got a post March 2nd offer from Washington). I also think the team would have matched it if given the chance.

Last year your starter went down, you bring in a guy off waivers (after passing a physical to be removed from IR) and 10 days later he's your starter, until he gets hurt and is replaced by a guy brought in to played special teams. All these options were better than risking the punter not having a personal protector. Then a rumor hits that a guy that not only knows the scheme but once was responsible for setting the secondary may be available.

What would you do?
Would you want to discuss the posibility of his return?
Would you think about what it could have been had he not left?
Would you wonder what it would take to get him back?

Who knows why he keeps coming up?

It's Febuary and the Lavar thing won't be coming up this off-season.
This is like the 3rd Clark thread since the playoff were out of the question, they're just getting started. Smootie is currently down by 2 threads but like I said it's Febuary.

The only reason the Redskins aren't in the Super Bowl is because we let Clark go!! The only reason!!!

At this point I would be listing every potential free agent, including Ryan Clark. Putting him in the section of people who may be cut.

I wouldn't really think about him again other then whatever they do with other players who may be cut until he is. If he is I'd contact his agent and see if we're even in ballpark.

I just have an issue with that he gets credit for being a core guy who wants to be here when he left for money. There is nothing wrong with leaving for money and NO ONE ever said there was. But you can't have both ways. You're saying yourself he didn't even ask us to match.

If he is better in our system, isn't that something HE should have thought of too? If you stay with a team you get endorsements. There are a lot of factors besides just the biggest game day paycheck and it was his responsiblity to think of them too, not just ours.

So IF he is cut and IF he is in the money ballpark THEN sure, I would consider he knew our system and was successful here before and give him some credit for that.
