Now, If I remember correctly, back in 05 (with a good D) Griffin and Salave'a Played great. Had good pressure and good run stops. But, I don't remember too many games this year that one, if not both weren't on the injury report on redskins.com They always were. If they can get healthy and stay healthy, Do we really have a problem their. Maybe a really good backup for them, Montgomery may be that guy.

You guys think back, it wasn't long ago, it was just 05 Griffen, Salave'e, Marshall, AP, and Washington did great in the middle for both run and pass. Now theirs only one person missing from that middle crew, That's AP the MLB. I still think that is the problem.

Lemar played great last year

I don't know much about Adalius Thomas but Briggs is a weakside LB so ok thats not the guy..Our defense needs one solid MLB and one solid DT and one solid CB, plus maybe a Safety.

I say we take the best availible at #6 offense or defense then we get our MLB,DT, and CB in the FA. Just because we screwed up last year's FA class doesn't mean we can't make up for it with a 07 class of..Clements,Freeney,and Thomas...move Phillip Daniels and run stunts with him and Freeney paired with Andre and Corny.

I think we could upgrade on Marshall, but getting a new MLB scares me. Aren't they a huge part of the defense?

Getting a new one would make the D have a big uphill battle I would think.

MLB is a tough call. I mean we need a good MLB, but the front office and coaches will really have to do their homework. MLB could make or break us. At the same time, i think its a big need for us.

He will definitly have to be able to dance as good as the rest and have moves.

"I think we could upgrade on Marshall"

I like Marshall, I wouldn't get rid of him, just move him to OLB untill Rocky can start. He knows our D and has the experience.

I'd say Rocky can start, he's paid his dues and didn't look bad when he had his chances...not to mention we traded up to get him.

Middle Linebacker and corner is our greatest need then DE and DT

Look at Ray Lewis for example, he's one of the best MLB to ever play the game. When Baltimore lost the big guys upfront, Rays effectiveness dropped! His level of play wasn't 100% the issue but it was the big bodies blocking him. If arguably the best MLB in the game (at the time) is having issues because of the front four, I dont know what you expect from anyone else.

If we dont get some big guys upfront, it wont matter who is at LB.

If we dont get some speed upfront, it wont matter who is at DB/Safety.

It starts in the trenches, if we can get the line moving good....the rest of the defense will strengthen.

I agree with this thought also - look at how Urlacher's play and effectiveness has changed at MLB without the players in front of him and particularly no T.Harris. This is still a team game and in most phases of the game the effectiveness of your 'stars' depends mostly on other players around them. Urlacher is still a great MLB, he is just not as effective without the other parts.

You need talent to play this game but all the talent in the world aint worth squat without the other pieces.

If the Saints have a great day on the ground it has nothing to do with Deuce or Bush - their FB is a great blocker and their O line is very effective - even Betts would look great playing with that group, and he's a backup RB

We need to get better play from our secondary but we will be helping our DBs a whole bunch by getting better play from our front 4, IMO.

I hope we consider the D needs from the front to the back - I really would like to have a great MLB calling plays but he also needs to have better play in front of him - I think this will also help the secondary as well BUT it all has to work together and we do not seem to have the players or the scheme to suit them at this time.
