GW is an arrogant ass, an awful coach, and lacks the ability to connect with his players. Football is an emotional TEAM game, without a cohesive team unit you have what we have this year on D, nothing. He was run out of Buffalo for that very reason, he lost his players b/c of his arrogance and attitude. Tell me where GW has had success over a long run, a time period more than 3 yrs?
I am so glad AA came out to the press, it's way overdue. His situation is BS and is playing out just like Lavar's did. How many players is GW going to run out of town with his disposition?
The players do not want to play for GW, it's apparent on the field by their actions. I remember when GW use to do the interviews on Redsklins.com I'd sit there and listen to his pompus BS and think to myself how long it would be before a mutiny happened.
I don't care how much talent you have, if your not playing as a team and fighting for a coach you respect your going nowhere, whether it's in the pro's or HS football. If anyone knows this it is Caoch Gibbs, I just don't understand how disconnected he has become from his team that he cannot see the past mistakes for what they are and take the appropriate measures to correct them.
The first release of this offseason should be GW.
If GW ever becomes coach for this team I will no longer be a fan, I mean that. I have been a fan since I began watching football in 1980 but if GW becomes the head coach of this team I am done with this organization until we have a new owner.

What is the constant in all of this?
Good point CLL - I think we will see a little difference in how the coaches "handle" players this off-season.
I think that we might be surprised at a number of the players who we all assume are "gone" and who might still be here

Our defense needs some players at some critical positions but they really need to be players who play better with the other players. We have been especially vulnerable because the players we have on the field have not seemed to be on the same page. I know that part of the blame here is on the coaches but its also largely IMO on the players to play smarter and together.
We also need to get back to basic football - these guys need to establish a reputation for tackling and toughness on defense. I do not believe any team in the NFL has a worst percentage on 3rd down and long. Everytime we need to get the ball back we seem to allow another set of downs. This is especially irksome when it happens at home and the other team is backed up, the crowd is trying to help and the players are encouraging more noise, next thing you know, "first down" and in most cases because of a mental error in a bad play, missed tackle or a stupid penalty.
BTW I hope that Lloyd is our #2 next year - I've got a feeling that this guy can be a very dangerous player when coupled with both Moss and our new (hopefully) more aggressive offense.
I expect to see Campbell benefit from better timing and better anticipation this off-season, he seems to still be very slow in getting the pass off. I like that sometimes he passes with touch and other times he gets it there quickly BUT he needs to make his reads a little quicker IMO and hopefully that will happen.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I think this as more to do with Williams failings that Archuleta's. Look at the entire defense, Archuleta is not much different that everyone else....disfunctional. It makes me wonder if Williams time is past because all of the new young hotshots have figured his schemes out.
Let's do remember that Arch led the team in tackles when he played. Why not try him at LB rather than just take the cap hit. Do we have anything to lose by it? What?
Maybe because he is the same size I was when I was a 8th grade! He is only 6'0" and 220lbs. He would not last four games at lb, and forget him playing MLB what a silly post that was.
While were at it let's try him at DT he won't have to cover anyone there!

WOW

I wonder if you really think that IF Williams becomes our HC he would do a worse job than some of our other recent coaches or some other HCs around the league.
First off - Williams is not going to be our coach unless he proves he is worthy of that. Gibbs and Snyder and even Williams himself will not allow that to happen IMO.
I cannot say, even as mad as I was about last weeks game, that I would ever consider, not being a Redskins fan - that to me is a significant difference between some of us here at THN. I just cannot imagine not being a fan. This is my team, even if I lived overseas, I would still be a Redskins fan.

It''s not an issue of turning it "on" or "off", do you really think that after being a Redskin fan for 27 years that I would simply say, "OK I think I'll be a (insert team name here) fan this year? No, I think you just made that statement to be demeaning. Not to say that I will root against the skins but I will no longer go to games or buy any merchandise that lines the pockets of the owner.
I am just at a breaking point with this franchise, mainly with the FO, but also with the coaches. I have been around long enough to see what we were and what we have become since Dan Snyder bought this team. The decisions being made are awful and occur over and over again.
Oh and your point about Williams wouldn't let himself be HC unless he thought himself worthy? You truly are a "homer"

The point is if he isn't head coach he gets a million bucks, what kind of *sh$t* is that? Do you think that million bucks comes out of Danny boys pockets? Nope, it come from you and me and all the other fans who support the org.

So, you go out and spend tens of millions in a bonus and salary on a guy that becomes a bust because he was not played to his physical and game strengths? Yeah, I guess 600,000 it was too much to ask for having one of your key pieces on defense go to a division rival.

They just read your question on "Redskins Lunch with Larry Michael and Bram Weinstein" and the answer was each situation was different, Champ was gone regardless - they wanted AP back but lost him - Smoot was overpaid - didn't mention Clark

Why wouldn't it be ok to put him in there at a LB position if it could work. He was basically playing that position half the time early this year but lining up in the safety position. People say that he is one of the fittest guys in the NFL. You would be supprised what you can do when you are in shape.
As for getting rid of GW, you guys are crazy. He is the best guy for our job. I don't think that Arch was brough in by GW. I think that this could be a front office hire more than a Coaches hire. You know how Vinny and Dan love big names. I haven't seen GW go after big name guys. Even if they are available.
As for his schemes, he didn't change them b/c they are proven to work. They have always put top defenses on the field. We just did a tremendous job of botching that up. We really are in need of a #1 corner. I don't know where to get that from but we need it.
I think that the whole organization needs to go under a microscope this offseason. I'm not a fan of Vinny. (Especially his laugh. Its like nails on a chalkboard0. I think that he and his scouts have done a terrible job finding talent for this team. I would love to have a guy like AJ Smith in San Diego come in and revamp this team.

I'm sure Snyder must know this, but at some point the team's going to have to start winning something to keep the fans interested and, more importantly, paying. If this team joins the Browns, Cardinals, and Lions as perpetual cellar-dwellers, the $$$ gravy train will stop rolling. I don't think fans will abandon this team, but they will cease to spend heaps of money on tickets, parking, concessions, merchandise, etc.

Yeah I heard them but a lot of the situations are the same.
Bailey - Wanted to leave because of coaching and player turnover
Smoot - Didn't get paid and complained about player turnover, not taking care of their own 1st and foremost.
Clark - Didn't get paid.
Peirce - Wasn't paid enough and later commented on player turnover and bringing in strangers
Arch - Complaining of lack of communication.
Trotter - I forget what he complained about.
Arrington - Complained of lack of communication, felt abandoned.
Each situation had its unique differences, but a lot of its the same. My point is throughout the coaching changes, these issues have lingered....

I doubt it. He's been mucking around with this team since 1999 and he's still raking in the cash. How does he do it?
The NFL has enough parity in it for him to sell these off-season splurges and make them look achievable. (is that a word?

Since 1999, Free Agency has done JACK (you know what) for this team. And Im fricking tired of it. No hype train for me this off-season. I'll sit back and silently hope.

I get tired of saying it: I don't care whether Williams is arrogant or not. A man can be arrogant and still be a good manager of people. Arrogance doesn't prohibit a person from having half decent people skills, and there is a pattern developing here of players being treated in a strange way.
Not only is this strange, but it is entirely in contrast to how I would expect a Joe Gibbs coached team to operate.
I don't really care who's been promised what job after Gibbs leaves, but while Joe Gibbs remains the head coach of this football team, I'd like to see him stamp his authority all over the coaching staff. He did it with Saunders when he ordered a return to Redskins football on the offensive side of the ball. He needs to do it with the defensive side as well.
It may be too late to save the AA experiment, but I'd like to see Gibbs starting to meddle with Williams' authority over defensive personnel decisions.

Redskin1 - Why is it that the Skins seem to have players that wont an excess amount of money that they may or may not deserve?
I think its because our "core" players, our guys who grew up in the system see people like Trotter. They see Trotter who comes in and makes big money before doing squat. Our "core" players want that same money. They see these big name people come in and FAIL! Our core guys play relatively well and we piss them away.
The Skins.
1. CONTINUOUSLY bring in big names.
2. CONTINUOUSLY FAIL to resign their own big names.
3. CONTINOUSLY LOSE.
I love these guys but
Marcus

Phillip

Springs

Casey

Gibbs says we get great guys via free agency but where is the great winning percentage? Where has it been since Danny started these free agent splurges? Redskin1, I asked that same question on lunch with the Skins yesterday and they were speachless, Bram agreed. We do have great people, but its not turning into wins. Dont get me wrong, Im not speaking badly of those guys, liike I said they're great. But this method fails. Its been failing since 1999.
I dont care who ANYONE tries to spin this POS in a pretty light, its a FAILURE.

Im sorry for the muliple posts but Im freaking pissed about this today.

People freaking praise Snyder like he's going flat broke for this team. Like he's spending his last dime trying to turn this team into a winner. He's not doing that. He's spending money to make money. These free agents aren't denting his pockets. These F/A's according to REDSKIN1 (1NISKDER) aren't even seeing the money. So please get off of his jock people.
My problem with him is this, its really simple.
1. His philosophy on how this team should be run is still at work. He has hired someone that believes the same thing so he doesn't have to do it himself. Gibbs believes in F/A but its a failure.
2. This my opinion, I believe he's more considered with making money than creating a winning team. You spend it to make it. He's making more than he's spending. If those splurges keep the fans in the seats regardless of the win/loss record, why not keep doing it?
Mr. Snyder if you care about this team.
1. Lower the parking for the ticket holders.
2. Upgrade the stadium for your loyal fans. Give them a decent replay system. Give them decent jumbotrons.
3. How about this shocker? Appreciate your fans on Fan Appreciation day. Give them a break from the parking prices. Lower a price or two on that day. Bring back the old treats that were available during previous FAD. He short changed the fans this year. But he made his money though.

Decrying the Silent Treatment, Archuleta Speaks Out
By Jason La Canfora
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, December 29, 2006; Page E01
In the defensive huddle at the Washington Redskins' final practice of the season yesterday, safety Adam Archuleta thanked his teammates for supporting him during what has been the worst, most trying year of his six-year NFL career. Then he told some at Redskins Park that he intends to leave town shortly after tomorrow night's season finale, perhaps even immediately.
Archuleta, 29, who has been benched for the second half of the season despite signing the biggest contract ever for a safety in March, said he is unsure of his future and whether the Redskins will bring him back, but knows that he wants to be part of a winning team. He has kept quiet since being pulled from the starting lineup for good on Oct. 22, but yesterday he spoke publicly for the first time and let it be known he has been hurt by the way the Redskins have treated him.
"It's been seven weeks and no one [on the coaching staff] has talked to me," Archuleta said. "No one ever gave me an explanation of why I'm not playing or what I need to do to play. It's humiliating. I feel humiliated. I feel like I've had my reputation dragged through the mud, with no explanation why."
Archuleta said he would prefer that coaches tell him he needed to improve his pass coverage or that his overall play has been poor, rather than be ignored. The coaches pulled him out of the starting lineup during a practice about two months ago, without giving him a reason, according to team sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity regarding Archuleta's status with the franchise.
Archuleta said he has felt like an outcast since. "They haven't said anything to me," Archuleta said of the defensive staff.
Archuleta said he did have a 10-minute meeting with Coach Joe Gibbs around the time of his benching, but he has had no recent conversations with Gregg Williams, assistant head coach-defense.
"I talked to Coach Gibbs briefly, and he told me to keep busting my butt and to fight through it, which is fair," Archuleta said. "He pulled me in to try to boost my confidence earlier in the season, which I appreciated."
Archuleta said that published reports in which he accused a member of the organization of having "lied" to him were false, and said such an exchange never took place. The safety said he was speaking hypothetically about the exit interviews that occur annually around the NFL this time of year, where pleasantries are often exchanged but concrete criticism is infrequent.
"I never said that anyone lied to me," Archuleta said. "I have no problem standing behind what I say, but that's not what I said."
Archuleta, a 2001 first-round pick of the Rams, received a $5 million signing bonus from the Redskins and has a $5 million option bonus due in March. Even if the Redskins cut him before then, Archuleta would be owed the second $5 million payment; his base salaries the next three years would be guaranteed at a sum equaling $5 million whether he is on the roster or not. Cutting him would cost the Redskins $9 million against the salary cap, although Washington could spread that over two years with about $1.5 million counting against the 2007 cap.
Last year, linebacker LaVar Arrington was benched for a portion of the season -- he eventually returned as a reserve -- and agreed to part with several million dollars of deferred bonus payments to gain his free agency. The Redskins could make a similar pitch to Archuleta, but given the nature of Archuleta's contract and the bitter taste of this season, getting him to agree to something along those lines would be difficult.
Williams has for weeks made few public comments about Archuleta's play or his status with the team, limiting his comments to phrases such as "he'll be playing" on special teams or that he's "had a good week of practice." Gibbs has sidestepped questions about Archuleta's diminished role, praising him for his work on special teams but revealing little beyond that.
Williams was directly involved in the recruiting of Archuleta, spending upward of 12 hours with him at Redskins Park last March and selling the safety on the team before he signed with Washington. But Archuleta struggled in the exhibition games and early in the regular season, along with the entire defense.
The technique the Redskins coaching staff taught to him in pass coverage was vastly different than how he played it in St. Louis, and his relationship with safeties coach Steve Jackson has been strained since early on, sources said. The Redskins have used the past few weeks to evaluate players for next season, yet Archuleta has not played with the defense even though veteran safety Troy Vincent was out for several weeks with a hamstring injury and despite the team's shortcomings on pass defense.
"Here's a guy who had the big number, the big expectations, all because of that big contract and he's been selfless about it even when you think that some of the things happening to him haven't really been too fair," one veteran said of Archuleta. "You watch how he's handled this whole thing and it says something. It says a lot about him."
Redskins Notes: Rookie safety Reed Doughty, whose son, Micah, was born premature and is battling chronic kidney failure, said that further testing this week went well and that dialysis was put off for at least another month. "It was good news," Doughty said. "Hopefully, he'll keep doing well and we can keep pushing it back by a month." . . . Reserve linebacker Khary Campbell (hamstring) was the only player to miss practice yesterday. He is questionable, while offensive linemen Jon Jansen (calf) and Casey Rabach (hand) are probable and intend to play.

So, you go out and spend tens of millions in a bonus and salary on a guy that becomes a bust because he was not played to his physical and game strengths? Yeah, I guess 600,000 it was too much to ask for having one of your key pieces on defense go to a division rival.
You owe him another one.Redskins Rule wrote:Clarke........ uhhhhh..........uhhhhhh.............. Okay, I'll give you clarke.
Are you saying that we should overpay for everybody?

No, Redskins Rule. I believe he is implying that you are wrong in thinking that $600K nore for Antonio Pierce was "overpaying".Redskins Rule wrote:Redskin in Canada wrote:Redskins Rule wrote:Pierce....... wanted to stay here, but he wanted an extra $600,000 to do it! Hindsight, as you know is ALWAYS 20/20 (or 50/50 in some college circles

Oh well, we gotta see how this staff rolls with the punches.

I don't think this is a hissy fit at all. If the coaches watched the film, they would have seen that archuletta sucks in coverage. They should have known what they were getting and paid him accordingly. Williams got a little too cocky about his system and view that anybody can play in it. Put Archuletta at the weak side linbacker spot, he's gotta be a better option than Holdman.

The constant is the mindset of the organization.
The constant is the philosophy of this organization.
The constant is the goals of this organization.
The mindset, philosophy and goals of this organization are geared towards making money and marketing the team.
I can't speak for the fans of the Lions or Cardinals, but as far as Browns fans go, they are about as loyal as fans can be. That franchize has done nothing to improve itself, but its fans continue their support. They are just frustrated as we are.
I don't think the Redskins fans are going to stop spending anytime soon.

There is no question that the Redskins overpay. Compared to $30 Million for a guy that doesn't fit, what is $600,000? Every agent in the league makes reference to his guy being courted by the Redskins, wheher it is true or not, in hopes of driving up his guys contract. The asking price of several of the departed players was miniscule compared to what was paid to their replacements.
The question should be, if (since) we are going to overpay - shouldn't we overpay players that stepped up when they had to or do we overpay FA's who don't deliver? The latter is the rule. Personnally I would rather overpay the guys that helped get a #4 defense than those that helped get a #30 defense. Betts is the 1st player I can remember that received a sizeable salary increase for his performance.
